Chapter 768 - She Was Interested
Chapter 768: She Was Interested
They couldn’t let this old cheat have his way.
He even wanted to sow discord among the three of them! What a fiend.
Tan Jian gnashed his teeth together and glowered at Elder Nie.
Then he cast a nervous glance at Yao Tang and waited for her to speak.
It was all Yao Tang could do not to burst out laughing. She pursed her lips and said, “I’ll listen to you and Teacher.”
“Ha!” Tan Jian yelped with joy and beamed.
As for President Tan, he could only close his eyes and sigh in relief.
Of course, he knew that Yao Tang would not fall for Elder Nie’s tricks, but it was still gratifying to hear her say the words out loud.
It also helped to dispel President Tan’s doubts and assure him that he made the right choice in refusing Elder Nie’s offer.
“I knew it! You really are the best, Tangtang,” Tan Jian exclaimed.
Elder Nie, on the other hand, was enraged. He whirled around to his men. “Capture those two and bring them here!”
There was no point in playing nice anymore.
“Look, look!” Tan Jian cried out excitedly. “See, Tangtang, he’s finally showing his true colors. His benevolence was nothing but an act. You’re lucky you didn’t go with him, or who knows what he might do to you?”
Beside him, President Tan was also sporting a smug smirk.
It served to fan the flames of Elder Nie’s anger. He seethed and barked orders at his men.
But before anyone could make a move, Yao Tang spoke.
“You said something about spiritual cultivation…” she said to Elder Nie in a meaningful tone.
The old man was taken aback.
Just now, he thought that she would never go with them, but it seemed like she was at least a little interested in what they had to offer.
Perhaps, when she said that she would listen, she had meant Elder Nie and not President Tan?
Thinking of this, Elder Nie looked up at the sky and laughed heartily. What a fortunate turn of events. “Excellent! You made the right choice. As long as you’re willing to join us, developing your cultivation or whatever other skills you want would not be a problem at all.”
It was his turn to sneer proudly at President Tan.
As it turned out, he still won in the end.
Sure enough, nothing was impossible in this world, as long as you have the capacity to pay the named price.
Tan Jian pressed his lips together in dread. He wasn’t sure what was happening, exactly, but he didn’t like that proud look on Elder Nie’s face.
Was Tangtang really talking about that old charlatan just now?
His chest clenched in dread. He pulled his father close and leaned over to whisper in his ear.
“What should we do now, Dad? Tangtang is still young. What if she gets fooled by that geezer, and she really goes with them? Are we just going to stand by and watch? No, we have to do something!”
Tan Jian was visibly distressed.
President Tan shared his son’s confusion, but he wasn’t as anxious as the young man.
Deep down, he still believed that Yao Tang would choose the right path. More than her skills, he had faith in her character.
She must have a reason for leading Elder Nie on. It might be wise for him and Tan Jian to not say or do anything in the meantime.
They should just go along with Yao Tang and see what she was up to.
“Don’t worry too much. For now, let’s stand back and see how it goes.”
There was a thoughtful glint in President Tan’s eyes, but he didn’t appear inclined to reveal his thoughts.
Tan Jian stamped his feet once and sighed in resignation.
He was obviously in disagreement with his father’s plan.
If they returned to City A without Yao Tang, how were they supposed to explain it to the Yao family? They needed to dissuade Yao Tang before it was too late.
Tan Jian was teetering on the edge of panic.
“Do you really have a way to improve one’s cultivation?” Yao Tang asked Elder Nie, her eyes narrowed in disbelief. “You’re not just saying that to coax me, are you?”
She knew enough to know that the only way to optimum cultivation is through one’s own hard work. The same could be said for any other skills one possessed.
If there really was a simpler way to become the best, if anyone could enter the Music Association despite their lack of skills, then what was the use of the Cabinet’s existence?
Elder Nie chuckled, pleased with himself. If Yao Tang was this curious, then that only meant that she wanted this ability, too.
As expected, people were greedy creatures, indeed.
