However, Cheng Yan’s gaze suddenly dimmed as he clutched his side. “My wound,” he whispered. “It hurts.”
Yao Tang dropped the oblivious act and immediately walked toward him. Lowering her head, she assessed the fresh wounds he had sustained.
“Which part hurts? Is it here?” She trailed her fingers down to the deeper cuts.
The medicine powder she had showered over him also acted out as a pain reliever. She also made sure that the powder was evenly spread out.
Logically speaking, it shouldn’t hurt.
However, as she trailed her fingers downward, she saw him practically wrenching from her grip in pain.
She took another look at his back. A few minutes ago, the cut on his back had already started to scab from the powder’s medicinal effects. However, now, it had started bleeding all over again.
Yao Tang furrowed her eyebrows as she turned to look at him. “What did you do?” she demanded. “Why did it reopen?”
How could this have happened?
Yao Tang was experienced in the medical field. As such, she knew the effects of applying this powder. While it would not promise an immediate recovery, it would promote scabbing, which was the first step to recovery.
His wounds shouldn’t be bleeding right now.
So, why was this happening?
Cheng Yan, however, didn’t look like he cared. His eyes were watery as he gazed up at her all pitiful and innocent. “I don’t know,” he murmured.
She stared at him for a long time before glancing at his back.
“Then let’s fix this again. Do you have a first aid kit around here?”
“I think so.” There was a short pause when he responded, “It’s in the cabinet in the utility room. It’s a white box.”
“Got it.”
Yao Tang took one last look at his back before heading downstairs to the utility room.
Once she had carried the first-aid kit all the way up to his room, she checked all the pills and bandages kept inside. She found everything she needed right there. That was good, at least.
She quickly attended to his wound again, and she even made sure to add some extra powder over the deep cuts to stop the bleeding. Within a few minutes, she finally took a step back.
“Does it still hurt?”
“It doesn’t seem to hurt much anymore.”
Yao Tang packed up the first-aid kit and straightened her back. “Make sure you don’t take a bath and change the dressing at least once a day. Avoid making any elaborate movements so the wound won’t reopen.”
With one last nod, she made her way out the door.
However, before she could even take a step, Cheng Yan reached out and grabbed her wrist. He pulled her toward him.
She froze. Initially, her instincts were calling her to toss the man onto the bed, but she resisted. Instead, she gazed up at him, waiting for him to speak.
“I thought you wanted to leave a note for the family doctor?” he questioned. “Why are you leaving so soon?”
“Didn’t you say you don’t want to call the family doctor anymore?” Yao Tang countered. “Now, you want a note?”
“I…” He blinked, stunned.
It had taken him a few seconds to finally recover, “I wasn’t making sense at that time. I’ve changed my mind. Is that not okay?”
“It’s fine.” Yao Tang gazed at the way his long fingers wrapped around her wrist.
Cheng Yan had injured himself just to save her, so she should have more patience in her heart and help him. “I’ll send you the note, and you can show him,” she stated. “There’s no pen and paper around here anyway.”
“And if my wound starts bleeding again?”
“It won’t,” she answered without hesitation.
His wound must’ve reopened because she hadn’t added enough powder back in the car. The lighting was limited, so she had to do what she needed to do. Now that they had perfect lighting and an adequate amount of powder, this incident wouldn’t happen again.
She was sure of it.
Yao Tang crossed her arms over her chest. After all, she was confident in her abilities.
Cheng Yan couldn’t help but purse his lips at the finality in her tone.
However, knowing that she had no other choice, he could only watch helplessly as she raced down the steps.
