Xiao Jing had known Yao Tangfor a long time, but this was the first time he had ever seen her this anxious. A smile stretched across his face.
It seemed that he had finally done something right.
Just as he was about to say anything, Yao Tang had already stood up and made her way toward the restaurant entrance.
Qin Jing and the others quickly followed her out.
Xiao Jing, in a rush, beat her to the door and opened it for it. “Commander Yao, you’ll definitely like this one,” he said. “The words were engraved by Liu himself!”
She raised her eyebrows.
When he opened the trunk, everyone could see the tombstone propped right at the corner. The atmosphere around them dropped a couple of degrees at the solemn sight.
“I had this tombstone prepared for my grandfather when he had been seriously ill,” he explained, eyes shining with pride. “I didn’t expect him to recover. In fact, he’s even healthier than me. Since you like tombstones, I’ll give this one to you.”
“When did I say I liked tombstones?”
“Didn’t you say you liked it when we were chatting?” He furrowed his eyebrows. “If you don’t like it, why would you ask me to bring it over?”
Everyone fell silent.
Yao Tang scowled. “Do you plan on handing over a coffin too?”
“You want a coffin?” Xiao Jing blinked in surprise. “What kind of wood do you want this coffin made from? I’ll have it made right away.”
It was so silent that they could hear a pin drop.
Even Fang Hui, who was admiring his idol from afar, lowered his head in embarrassment. His idol was obviously confused by the insinuation of her words.
Yao Tang steadied her breathing, trying her best to suppress the irritation in her heart.
Instead, she glanced over at Yang Nian. “The tombstone’s inside. Take a look for yourself.”
Yang Nian gazed at the tombstone in his car. A complicated look flashed across his face, and no one could tell what he was thinking. Only after staring at it for a while did he nod. “There’s no need to take a closer look,” he said. “I could tell it’s real.”
The coffin had been brought over by Xiao Jing himself. He could tell that he had brought it all the way from his hometown.
Seeing that Xiao Jing was performing in City A, it was a good time for him to bring this.
Was this all a coincidence for Yao Tang to win the bet?
Yang Nian had thought of so many possible outcomes, but he didn’t expect that he’d lose the bet like this.
He had already lost before he could do anything.
After thinking about it for a while, he glanced over at Yao Tang. “I’ll apologize on behalf of Yan Wei,” he stated. “But can you not drag her into this anymore?”
“To make up for your loss, I’ll even hand you Master Nippon’s music score, in addition to the tombstone from City D. What do you think?”
Fang Hui’s jaw dropped. “Master Nippon’s manuscript?”
Everyone looked over at him, and he smiled in embarrassment. “Sorry,” Fang Hui murmured, unsure of what else to say.
However, he looked at Yang Nian in a new light.
Master Nippon’s music scores were famous all around the world. His scores, however, were said to have disappeared. In fact, to his knowledge, there were only three known copies left.
And they were all stored in the museum.
Fang Hui obviously wanted to take a look at the music score.
Meanwhile, Qin Jing and Lin Xinglanced over at their friend, waiting for her to make a decision. Whatever decision she’d make, they’d stand by her.
Although they wanted to see Yan Wei apologize to them again, they were a bit curious as to how Yang Nianwould apologize.
It would be nice if he apologized for her.
“Keep the tombstone for yourself,” she snapped. “I don’t need it.”
Then, she glanced over at Xiao Jing. “You can keep that tombstone for yourself too.”
Yang Nian paused, staring at the tombstone in the car. He didn’t say anything for a long period of time, as if he was still studying the object.
