Chapter 846 - Evelyn's Dad
Evelyn didn't know what to say. "Dad, Uncle Darrell is still waiting for you inside. Shouldn't you go back to him?"
Carlos paused and finally let go of Sheffield. He stood up and straightened his clothes. "Call security. Ask them to throw him out."
Evelyn helped Sheffield sit up. She raised her head to look at her father and said resignedly, "Dad, you go check on Uncle Darrell. I'll talk to him."
Carlos cast a cold glance at the pair and entered the bedroom with a snort.
Sheffield wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and sat up on the floor. "You're Carlos Huo's daughter?" he asked, still dumbfounded.
Evelyn gaped at him. "You didn't know?" His face was black and blue, but he insisted on asking her irrelevant questions as if nothing had happened.
"Well, I know now! Joshua didn't tell me. Give me a break, you guys!" Sheffield felt frustrated. He was well aware that Evelyn was from a rich family, but he hadn't expected her to be so rich and powerful.
Even though he knew that she worked for ZL Group, he didn't think that the company actually belonged to her family.
"You are completely messed up." She fixed his clothes.
"No wonder your father doesn't like me... Wait!" Sheffield looked at her ponderously. "Joshua is not even as capable as I am. I can at least earn some money and support you, but he cannot even support himself with his low salary. Why does your father like him more than me? Does he like poor guys or something?"
Evelyn stood up from the floor. "Why don't you worry about the wound on your face for now?"
Sheffield stood up as well. "It's okay. It doesn't hurt."
Evelyn reached out her index finger and poked the swollen part of his face. "Ouch! It hurts! Evelyn, easy..."
She couldn't help but laugh at his reaction.
Upon hearing Sheffield's scream, Carlos walked out of the bedroom again and asked with a long face, "Why are you still here?"
Sheffield covered his face with one hand and stared at Carlos, who looked like he was ready to beat him up again. He said hastily, "Dad... Sorry, Mr. Huo, I'm leaving now. Bye, Evelyn!"
He walked to the front door as fast as he could.
Before closing the door, he turned around to Evelyn and added, "See how messed-up my face is. Come by later to check up on me. Bye!"
Seeing that Carlos was about to come after him, Sheffield closed the door as fast as he could and left.
Silence befell the room once again. Evelyn coaxed, "Dad, you shouldn't have hit him."
Carlos thought she was being ridiculous. "Are you feeling sorry for him?"
Evelyn wouldn't admit it. "No, Dad, you should have stayed calm." He had intentionally chosen to hit Sheffield's face. The poor man looked miserable.
Carlos raised his eyebrows. "He started it! You don't care about me at all, do you?"
It seemed that it was indeed Sheffield who had started the fight, but he was beaten up miserably in the end. "Dad, why are you pretending to be the victim after you beat him up?" She thought her father was being childish.
Carlos looked at his daughter's resigned expression and declared, "I'll beat the guy up every time I see him." That man really could drive a wedge between the father and daughter.
"Wow. Dad, you are being really childish. Violence doesn't solve anything." She realized that she and her father would never have a common ground when it came to Sheffield.
"Says who? It lets me vent my anger." Just the sight of that brat drove him mad.
Evelyn shook her head helplessly. She took his arm and said, "Let's go inside. Uncle Darrell will be pissed if you make him wait any longer."
Carlos snorted and walked into the bedroom again.
Inside, a middle-aged man was lying in bed. He had been silently listening to what was going on outside the bedroom. When he saw the father and daughter coming in together, he smiled and said, "Mr. Huo, I think that young man had a dire misunderstanding."
Carlos didn't respond. He walked to the bed and tucked him in. "He is nobody to Evelyn. What right does he have to misunderstand anything?"
Evelyn took a deep breath to argue. But Darrell Pei winked at her, and she remained silent. "Mr. Huo, it's the young lady's own business. It's better not to interfere. She seems happy with that man."
Carlos waved at him. "You don't understand. It's not as simple as you think. I could never hand my daughter over to that boy."
Darrell Pei figured that a lot had happened between them, and didn't comment on the issue further.
As soon as he walked out of the hotel, Sheffield called Joshua. "We need to meet. Now!"
"I'm working, Dr. Tang. By the way, who was Evelyn sleeping with?"
"Shut up! It's normal for you to skip work. Get your ass down here. I need a drink." Sheffield was in a horrible mood after being beaten up.
Joshua was curious. "What happened? Did you really get cuckolded? Oh, wait. That's not right. She is my girlfriend. So, I was cuckolded?" Was there any relationship in the world as messy as theirs?
"Let's talk about it when we meet," replied Sheffield briefly before hanging up.
Sitting back in the car, he looked at the scenery ahead of him and got lost in his thoughts.
'Carlos Huo's daughter...' He had heard of the man before, but since they had never met each other, he knew very little about him.
He grabbed his laptop from the back seat and opened it to investigate Carlos.
Nobody had been able to get any information about Carlos Huo on the Internet before. But since he and Debbie had gotten married, much more information about him started spreading online. The news was mostly about Debbie. They seemed to love each other very much.
When Sheffield saw the name "Debbie Nian," he paused and remembered the time when they were in D City.
Evelyn had told him that she liked Debbie's songs.
'Debbie is her mom. No wonder she likes her, ' he thought.
Her sister, Terilynn Huo, was a student of law. They had met at lunch a few days back. He had only heard about Evelyn's brother, Matthew Huo, from her, and there was nothing on the Internet about him.
Logically speaking, the heir of a tycoon group should be the focus of the media, but there was no trace of him on the Internet. It seemed that he was as low-key as his father.
Sheffield read through Evelyn's family background briefly and put the laptop away. He decided to continue his investigation later that night. Right now, he needed a drink and a word with Joshua. As he waited in the car, he thought of an idea.
Sheffield took out his phone and opened the music app. He typed "Debbie Nian" and some of her albums popped up.
He clicked one of them randomly and played it.
The soothing and melodious song rang in the car. He could feel the music in his veins. 'It shouldn't be difficult to learn, ' he thought.
