Chapter 757 - The Match Point
The handcuffed men raised their heads and threw a quick glance at Megan. They shook and said in union, "No, not her. We don't know her."
Blair flared up, her eyes red with anger; her hands balled into fists. Ignoring Megan's annoying shrieks, Blair yanked her phone away from her hand and made her unlock the screen forcefully.
She checked the inbox messages on her phone. Much to her disappointment, the messages that they had exchanged earlier that day were all gone.
Bristled with fury, Blair tossed Megan's phone to the floor. She approached the girl and shouted, "Be honest and admit it. It was you who had sent those messages to trick me and get me here."
Megan shook her head repeatedly. "No, I did no such thing. Uncle Wesley, please. I didn't do it."
Wesley strode over and tried to lock the agitated Blair in his arms once again. "Blair, calm down. We're looking into it."
But his words fell on deaf ears. She squirmed and broke free of his grip. "I'm telling you it was her! Don't you trust me?"
"I trust you," he answered in a firm voice. "But we need evidence."
"Damn your evidence! My words should be proof enough for you. And I'm the freaking witness!" Blair had wanted to keep cool. But when Wesley continued to defend the drama queen, she couldn't maintain her composure anymore.
Wesley took her hands in his and looked her in the eye. "Blair, listen to me. I only care about your safety. Go home now and wait patiently for the outcome of the investigation. I won't let go anyone who attempted to harm you. Trust me."
However, his honest words didn't make her feel any better. She was disappointed by his lack of trust in her. "Wesley, I think it's best that we go our separate ways."
He tightened his grip on her hands, but Blair wrenched her hands free. "Whatever the outcome is, it doesn't matter anymore. I thought you would take my word for it. Wesley, you..." '...let me down.' She kept those words to herself.
She turned around and walked out of the room. Wesley followed her out. "What do you want me to do now?" he asked, desperate to hold onto her.
"I told you, you have to make a choice. This is not negotiable, not anymore. This is the match point right here. Wesley, either you put Megan in jail, or let me go."
'The match point?' Wesley didn't know whether to laugh or cry at her childish behavior. He sighed helplessly.
"We can't put someone behind bars without any proof. Blair, please be reasonable," he persuaded her tenderly.
"Fine. What if she is proved to be guilty? What would you do?" Blair argued.
Wesley said on a serious note, "I'll let the police and the court do their work. If she really did this, she deserves to be punished. I won't interfere." If Megan had planned this to hurt Blair, he wouldn't let her get away with it. She had crossed the line this time.
Blair nodded. "Okay, carry on with the investigation. I'll go home now."
Wesley took her hand in his. "Never say that you want to separate from me again."
"That depends." She shook his hand away and turned to leave.
He caught up to her again. "I'll drive you home." She didn't say anything.
After driving Blair home, Wesley left for the hotel and then went to the police station.
As soon as he was out of the apartment, Blair phoned Megan.
When the call connected, she asked, "Do you have the guts to meet me now?"
Megan sneered, "I'm not a fool like you. I won't come anywhere."
Blair pressed the recording button before continuing. "Why am I a fool?"
"You are so stupid to think that Wesley loves you. If he did love you, he would've locked me up in jail by now. I wouldn't have been sitting at home comfortably."
Blair smirked. "Do you know why I love Wesley, besides the reason that he has a strong waist?"
"What?"
"I love him because he's a righteous man. He won't make a judgment before he finds out the truth. But once the truth surfaces, you will know how merciless he is."
"Impossible! I'm not like others to him. Even if he finds out the truth, he will surely forgive me if I cry and beg in front of him."
"So, you admit that you were behind this whole thing?"
"What if I was? You don't have any proof. No one will believe you. Wait… What are you—" Megan became vigilant at once, realizing that something was wrong about the conversation.
"Remember this, Megan. Karma will catch up with you one day." With that, Blair hung up.
It was past midnight and Wesley still hadn't come back home. Blair didn't have the heart to see him work so hard on the investigation, so she called him. "Come back and get some rest first."
Wesley had already found out some clues. He was nearing the truth. "I just need a little more time. You go to bed."
Blair had no choice but to let him do as he wanted. She then sent the recording of the phone conversation to him via WeChat.
A while later, he called back. He had heard the conversation between her and Megan. "It was her. I checked the camera footage of the banks, and I got her transfer records too. There's enough proof."
"Hmm. I'm tired. I'm going to bed now. Come back soon." She then hung up.
She was eager to see how he was going to deal with Megan.
By the time Wesley was back, she was already fast asleep. He took a quick shower and then slept with Blair in his arms.
The next morning, they went to a place together.
In Megan's apartment
He laid all the evidence in front of Megan, but the girl stood by her innocence. "No, it wasn't me! Blair faked all these. She is trying to frame me!"
"Megan!" Wesley roared.
She was so startled by his loud voice that she dared not utter a word.
Blair snorted bluntly. It was Wesley who had personally carried the investigation. Was she doubting his ability as a military officer? How stupid was this girl?
"I know very well the authenticity of these evidences. Don't take me for a fool." Wesley was disappointed in her.
Knowing that she was trapped without any other excuses, Megan instantly played the pity card. She broke into tears and held Wesley's arm. "Uncle Wesley, I'm sorry. I just wanted to take revenge on her. Did you know? She had two men **** me! Please, Uncle Wesley! You should get justice for me."
Blair was stunned by how shameless Megan was. She didn't let go of a single chance to frame her. What an impenitent bitch! "You...you were raped?" Wesley was shocked.
Megan glared at Blair with resentment in her eyes. "Don't pretend like you know nothing. It was your doing! I was raped by two men! In the woods near our school." But, the truth was that she wasn't sure if it was Blair or Stephanie who had done it.
"So, karma did catch up with you," Blair sneered.
Megan gnawed on her lip to hold back her anger. She went on to beg Wesley in a pitiful voice, "Uncle Wesley, she had someone **** me. I just wanted to take revenge. But since my plan failed and she's unharmed, please spare me."
Wesley broke free of her grip and moved away from her. "Blair would never do it."
He wasn't about to believe a word of her accusations on Blair.
"Uncle Wesley, it's true. Please look into it. I was raped! Do you know how desperate I was at that time? No one came to save me. I called you last time because I wanted to tell you all about this. But, you didn't come to see me. Can you understand how I felt?" Megan cried hysterically.
