Chapter 4115: Pay A Visit
Chapter 4115: Pay A Visit
Kang Tian hesitated, its eyes turning extremely grave. “Legends claim that there is one among the Seven-Treasure Anuras that is very, very ancient. If not for that ancient creature, they would have been wiped out by a fishing civilization long ago. That is the one who destroyed the fishing civilization back then.
“It’s said that the ancient Seven-Treasure Anura is the very first of their entire species.”
Lu Yin was appalled. The very first? The most ancient? None of that boded well, as it all meant power, incomparable power.
“They say the oldest of the Seven-Treasure Anuras embodies the very meaning of an Immortal,” Kang Tian concluded.
That comment caused even the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm to tremble.
Clearly, Greater Sancte Green Lotus was shaken. What kind of creature could embody the very concept of being an Immortal? How ancient must they be?
Such a creature might be even older than those who had reverted to the ancient era. This had to be a truly eternal old monster.
Kang Tian bleakly continued, “Do you know that, to the Seven-Treasure Anuras, my Tricolor Skyborne are nothing more than snacks? A delicacy to be laid out and eaten? Not even the fact that I am an Immortal makes even the slightest bit of difference.
“We Tricolor Skyborne are not weak, and we are many. Each one of us is born powerful enough to roam the universe, and yet we’ve been reduced to rations for those creatures.
“So...”
The mood grew heavy; the joy that had been brought about by repelling Lan Meng and the Immortal Lord had been completely erased by Kang Tian’s words.
If what the snail said was true, then humanity had no hope of defeating the Seven-Treasure Anuras.
“Are you certain that they’ll come here?” Greater Sancte Awe Gate asked.
Kang Tian replied, “Without a doubt, unless they never learn that a Seven-Treasure Anuras is stranded here. They will never leave one of their own behind.”
Lu Yin’s expression changed as he remembered what had happened when he had tried to investigate Astral Anura’s karmal he had glimpsed those terrifying eyes.
A mere glance had injured him, despite the fact that Astral Anura had been an unimaginable distance from the Seven-Treasure Anuras at that time.
The other time that Lu Yin had tried to investigate karma related to an Immortal was when he had looked into the Immortal from Obscura who was hiding in the Tianyuan. That had also been across a distance, but when compared to how far Astral Anura was from the rest of his species, the two were not even in the same league.
The fact that Lu Yin had been injured across such a vast distance defied imagination.
Since that Immortal had already been alerted by karma, there was a distinct possibility that the Seven-Treasure Anuras would come searching.
That realization left Lu Yin wishing that he could turn back time and choose to never investigate Astral Anura’s karma.
He had not known that the consequences would be so dire.
Who could have guessed that Astral Anura had such a terrifying background? The truth was beyond absurd.
“What sort of temperament do the Seven-Treasure Anuras have?” Lu Yin asked, eager to learn if they would strike at humanity if Astral Anura returned to his own kind.
Kang Tian proceeded to use the vilest terms his long life afforded him to describe the creatures, which caused Lu Yin’s face to grow darker by the moment.
“Enough. Even without Astral Anura here, you would have eventually lured them over. Don’t try to excuse yourself.”
“Honored powerhouse, with the rest of my kind dead, the Seven-Treasure Anuras can’t find us, even if they want to. The only thing that can truly draw them here now is their kin, who is already here.”
Lu Yin sneered. “Do you think that saying something like that will make us let you go?”
Kang Tian helplessly replied, “I am willing to join your human civilization. I believe that the addition of another Immortal will be of real help to you.”
Lu Yin understood. It was no wonder why the snail had spoken about the Seven-Treasure Anuras to such length and had worked so hard to shift the blame for their approach onto Astral Anura. Kang Tian had not just been trying to exonerate itself, but rather laying the groundwork for its own survival. Its goal was-
“However, I have one condition,” Kang Tian announced as he stared at Lu Yin. “Kill that Seven-Treasure Anura.”
Lu Yin was not surprised to hear this demand.
Greater Sancte Awe Gate and Ku Deng both glanced at Lu Yin before turning their gazes back to the Immortal snail.
“Kill the toad?”
“As long as that Seven-Treasure Anuras lives, it will eventually pull its species here. If I am to join you humans, I don’t want to die so soon. Killing that thing is the best way to remove the threat.”
If Astral Anura was truly luring his species to the human megaverses, it was a valid question of whether they should kill him. Even if Lu Yin was unwilling to do so, Greater Sancte Green Lotus and the others might not allow the toad to live.
However, no one could definitively say whether the Seven-Treasure Anuras would appear. After all, the Tricolor Skyborne’s extended presence might have already drawn them over.
If the Seven-Treasure Anuras did arrive, only to discover that one of their kind had been slain, the joke would be on humanity. Their actions would have planted an enmity that would lead to a fight to the death.
Kang Tian urgently pushed, “Kill it now and those creatures won’t know anything. As long as we don’t draw those damned things here, we’ll be fine. We can survive in peace.”
Greater Sancte Awe Gate said, “Lan Meng knows that the toad is here, as does the Immortal Lord.”
Kang Tian fell silent.
It truly wanted Astral Anura dead, just to reduce the chances of encountering the species following after it. The snail absolutely did not want to encounter that damned species ever again.
If not for Obscura’s intervention, the Tricolor Skyborne would have never arrived at the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm, nor would they have escaped from the Seven-Treasure Anuras. Having finally slipped away from those toads, even if Kang Tian’s life or death fell into humanity’s hands, it preferred to stay there. At least it would not be viewed as a snack.
Humanity was not a fishing civilization, which meant that they needed powerful allies. Given the situation, the snail felt that it would not suffer badly among the humans.
Unfortunately, Lan Meng was already aware that a Seven-Treasure Anuras was inside this human civilization, which was why they had fled without hesitation. Even without the Tricolor Skyborne, Lan Meng could still inform the Seven-Treasure Anuras and lead them over.
Kang Tian instantly understood the situation.
Lu Yin and the others also clearly saw their circumstances, and their expressions grew even uglier.
Using Astral Anura to probe the Tricolor SKyborne had been a mistake. Even knowing that the SKyborne had intended to draw over the Astral Anura civilization made no difference to the battle. Worse, the toad’s presence had instead become the very trigger that might draw that civilization here.
Ku Deng let out a helpless sigh, while Greater Sancte Awe Gate clenched Awecloud tighter. She had not expected this turn of events.
Just one misstep could cause every subsequent step to also go wrong.
On the other hand, Lu Yin was less bothered by the news. He had already exposed Astral Anura’s existence to his species. The Tricolor Skyborne's presence or absence would not have changed anything.
What mattered at the moment was how to save humanity from the threat of the Seven-Treasure Anuras.
The species’ arrival suddenly seemed unavoidable.
“Do you truly wish to join humanity?” Lu Yin asked, breaking the silence.
Kang Tian wanted to say that only an idiot would join the humans. It could not wait to get away. Unfortunately, it was currently the fish, while the humans held the knife. There would be no leaving. Refusing to join humanity would mean death.
“Yes. I hope to ally with humanity against the powerful and cruel civilizations that regard other life as ants.”
“Are you speaking from the heart?”
“From my heart.” Kang Tian was a breath away from swearing a vow.
Lu Yin shook his head. “I don’t believe you.”
Kang Tian blinked.
“I just killed so many of your own kind. If those that you were using to lure the Seven-Treasure Anuras over here were important to your civilization, then how could you possibly want to join us after I slaughtered all of them?” Lu Yin countered.
Kang Tian let out a breath. “Ah, is that your concern? You needn’t worry. Ask the two Immortals beside you. Do they truly care about the lives of non-Immortal humans?”
“I do,” Ku Deng stated bluntly.
Kang Tian stared at the man in a daze.
Greater Sancte Awe Gate added, “Very much so.”
Kang Tian was left speechless. Was this human civilization really so different from its own?
“Both of you, think this over. Over the ages, a civilization will produce countless of the same species. If a generation dies, you can simply wait for another to mature. For us Immortals, time is the least valuable commodity. Why concern yourselves with such insignificant lives?
“Even if an era or two is lost, it means nothing. We simply need to sleep for a bit longer for their numbers to return.”
It refused to believe that humans could really be so different from its own species. Kang Tian was convinced that the humans were only saying such things to put greater pressure on it. Since they were pressing on it so hard, it could only go along and try to explain itself.
Lu Yin eyed Kang Tian suspiciously. “And yet your actions say otherwise. When you saw Astral Anura, you panicked and fled, but didn’t you also take the rest of your kind with you?”
Kang Tian flatly replied, “If I hadn’t taken them, what sort of snacks would there have been for the Seven-Treasure Anura?”
Those words left Lu Yin speechless, and the atmosphere turned frigid.
Ruthless was too mild a word for its behavior. This was a typical Immortal: emotionless and completely detached. This was typical of not only the Tricolor Skyborne, but also of many civilizations throughout the Aevum Inch. The truth was that humanity was the anomaly.
Kang Tian studied the three humans. “Do you know how many of my kind the Seven-Treasure Anuras have eaten over the years?
“Too many to count. Quite literally beyond counting. Even I, an Immortal, cannot grasp such a number. It has been far too many. All I have ever been able to do is ensure that my species continues to reproduce. I’ve long since stopped caring about anything else. This is why I ask the great human civilization to give me a chance and to allow me to join you.”
Greater Sancte Awe Gate was filled with disgust. This Immortal snail’s attitude was beyond contemptible. It had never tried to resist and had instead merely hid like a turtle.
Allowing such a creature to join human civilization was a revolting thought.
Admittedly, there were plenty of humans who were no different, but such people rarely rose to prominence. Out of sight, out of mind.
In fact, the attitude shown by Kang Tian rather resembled Master Qing Cao’s behavior; both had made great compromises. Still, at least Qing Cao cared about the Spirit Nidus and the lives of his people there. That alone made the man fundamentally different from the snail.
Even so, there was no choice. With an additional Immortal to aid humanity, they would stand a far better chance in the upcoming war against the Seven-Treasure Anuras.
At least, provided that Kang Tian did not betray them.
Such matters were best left to Greater Sancte Green Lotus.
Lu Yin also did not like Kang Tian, but there was no denying that it could help human civilization. The fact that Greater Sancte Green Lotus had not objected represented his tacit approval.
To unite all willing and unwilling forces against outside enemies was their human civilization’s greatest priority for the time being.
Lu Yin had once believed that he could ignore the larger picture and act willfully at times, but that had been before facing true despair. In the face of that, even Immortals were not free.
The Champions’ Stage Purgatory appeared beside Lu Yin. “Go in and take a walk. Show us your sincerity.”
Ku Deng looked over in astonishment. This was his first time seeing the Champions’ Stage Purgatory, though he had heard that Lu Yin could use it to strengthen his karma. Ku Deng had never imagined that his first time witnessing Lu Yin using it would be on an Immortal.
