Chapter 3942: Battle On Cragpeak
Chapter 3942: Battle On Cragpeak
Cheng Hongyuan walked over to Li Guo, his shadow falling over the fallen man. “Let’s go.”
Li Guo slowly lifted his head. The shock and horror that had previously filled his eyes transformed into sarcasm and amusement. “Have you ever seen Clear Moon, Scattered Stars?”
Cheng Hongyuan’s expression instantly and drastically changed as he snapped his head back. Unbeknownst to him, the sky above Cragpeak had transformed. A bright moon hung high above, while all of the stars had started to disappear. It was not sunlight casting shadows over Li Guo, but rather moonlight, and it was as cold as frost.
The very next instant, the bright moon dissipated, and everything transformed into starlight before vanishing entirely.
Cheng Hongyuan’s pupils shrank to pinpricks. “Codex 1.”
The clothes on his body were reduced to ash, swiftly followed by his skin. Even his hair started to disintegrate beneath the utterly domineering power.
The first ranked of the Yu family's Script Arrays. Codex 1: Clear Moon, Scattered Stars.
Li Guo threw out a palm strike. Given that the protruding bones of his left arm were no longer under his control, he could only use his right arm.
Cheng Hongyuan dodged before spinning back around to glare at Li Guo. “Do you really want to die?”
“If you’re going to kill me, then just cut the nonsense. I want to see if you’re really the one trying to capture me, or if there’s someone else behind you,” Li Guo shouted sternly, “Who do you think I am? I’m the master of Deathmound’s Reversed Speech Mountain!”
“Do you think that just Codex 1 alone is enough to destroy me?” Cheng Hongyuan raised a hand and started moving his hand through the air while releasing a danger zone. In an instant, a spirit spirit formation appeared and then shot up at Codex 1.
Li Guo was shocked. “Seventeen instant formations?”
He had forgotten. Cheng Hongyuan was not just able to control bones; he was also a member of the Cheng family. He was Baisha Tiancheng’s younger brother, and he had naturally learned the family’s method of instantly releasing spirit treasure formations. To be able to release seventeen formations instantly placed Cheng Hongyuan second only to Baisha Tiancheng’s nineteen.
The danger zones of seventeen spirit treasure formations shot up towards the Clear Moon, Scattered Stars.
The sky above Cragpeak split apart as two overwhelming danger zones collided, shaking the heavens. Cragpeak crumbled into ash. The destruction spread to Skyveil City, and then across all of the West Domain’s yellow sands.
Countless people looked up in horror. “Run!”
Streams of the spirit treasure’s danger zones fell like rain, striking Skyveil City and the yellow sands. Some even battered the other nearby cities.
Inside Skyveil City, Jue Qing immediately ordered the Jue family’s cultivators to help protect the city, as did the Yu family.
All eyes turned to Cragpeak. Who was fighting against Li Guo? The clash was pure spirit treasure danger zones meeting in a direct confrontation. Who in all of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, aside from Skyveil City’s three great clans, could match Li Guo in this manner?
Cragpeak vanished. Landing on scorched earth, Li Guo coughed up blood. His guess proved to be correct; Cheng Hongyuan’s goal was not to kill Li Guo, but to capture him. He would not be allowed to die.
Even though Cheng Hongyuan could control Li Guo’s bones, what use would the skeleton be if the man himself died?
If that outcome was an option, Li Guo would have already been killed.
Nearby, Cheng Hongyuan was panting heavily. No matter his power, Clear Moon, Scattered Stars was still the Yu family’s top-ranked Script Array. It was not at all easy to deal with. With even the smallest misstep, Cheng Hongyuan would have failed to break through it.
Luckily for him, Codex 1 was unable to withstand his own seventeen instant formations.
“Cheng Hongyuan, since you aren’t willing to kill me, then show me the true skills of someone who’s mastered the Cheng family’s spirit treasure methods to the point of instantly releasing seventeen formations,” Li Guo said with a sneer. His eyes swept through the area as he gathered the descending danger zones and created a spirit treasure formation from it.
Cheng Hongyuan grew furious. “Li Guo, don’t push me!”
“Just try it!” Li Guo shouted. “You underestimate those of Deathmound!”
As the man roared, the danger field rapidly converged.
Cheng Hongyuan’s expression changed. “Codex 5?”
“Keep watching.”
“Even Codex 6? How do you know all of them?”
Li Guo cackled. “Do you have any idea how much your three great clans feared me? My talent surpasses your comprehension! If not for the fact that I had no access to the Void Wall, I would have mastered your family’s carving method to a level where even your ancestors would have clawed their way out of their graves!”
Cheng Hongyuan’s forehead throbbed. Things were not unfolding as he had expected. Li Guo had assessed the situation accurately, and he showed no fear of death. Cheng Hongyuan had believed that capturing his target would be easy.
Killing Li Guo might be easy, but capturing him was proving extremely difficult.
Also, how does he know about the Void Wall?
Each of the three great clans had their own secrets that were never shared with any outsiders.
“Li Guo, believe me. I could kill you as easily as flipping my hand.” Cheng Hongyuan let out a long breath as his killing intent surged.
Li Guo nodded while showing a vicious grin. “Then believe this: if you don’t kill me, I can kill you!”
Cheng Hongyuan’s eyes narrowed, and he hesitated.
At that moment, Codex 3 and Codex 5 both shot at Cheng Hongyuan.
Cheng Hongyuan retaliated with seventeen instant formations, and the spirit treasure danger zones clashed as the man glared at Li Guo. “You're seeking death!”
Li Guo coughed up blood as white bones stabbed out of his mouth. They pierced through his lower jaw, leaving his face a blooding mess. Even so, he did not stop. In fact, he instead used Linear Insight to transform Codex 3.
Cheng Hongyuan was stunned. He never anticipated that Li Guo would have mastered even Linear Insight.
At that moment, the danger zones of the spirit treasures that had scattered overhead stopped moving and then started to rise back up. A full moon slowly appeared. Once again, Codex 1: Clear Moon, Scattered Stars had appeared.
As the moonlight fell, Cheng Hongyuan clenched his fists. There were only two choices left to him: kill Li Guo, or retreat. There was no third option.
Li Guo was far more difficult to handle than Cheng Hongyuan had imagined. He easily wielded Codex 1, Codex 3, and Codex 5, and the man had also mastered Linear Insight. He was even a peak Dukkhan, which allowed him to grasp the situation in a single glance. No wonder he was the master of Deathmound’s Reversed Speech Mountain.
Cheng Hongyuan was desperate to just kill Li Guo, but the man could not die.
He was far too valuable.
At that moment, a streak of red light fell from the sky and violently impacted the ground near Li Guo and Cheng Hongyuan.
Both men turned to look as a red-shrouded figure emerged from the dust. Each step taken warped the void. It looked as though space itself was ablaze.
The figure soon entered into clear view of the two men.
Li Guo was shocked. “A Netherfiend?”
Cheng Hongyuan's expression also twisted in surprise as he stared at the newcomer. How could a Netherfiend have appeared?
The man appeared indifferent, his expression completely emotionless as he glanced at both Li Guo and Cheng Hongyuan before scanning the area. He appeared to be searching for something.
Then, the light of Clear Moon, Scattered Stars fell upon the newcomer. Blood trickled from the corners of Li Guo’s mouth as he said, “What a wonderful day... both the white skeleton and a Netherfiend have shown up. If I capture both of you, Deathmound’s greatest mission will end right here. Stay.”
Cheng Hongyuan’s eyes flickered as he stared at the man. “You, the Netherfiend, let’s deal with Li Guo together.
“Wait a second, why do you look familiar?”
The newcomer met Cheng Hongyuan’s gaze. The light of Clear Moon, Scattered Stars started to dissipate the red aura surrounding the man’s body, disintegrating into ash. He was also affected by the spirit treasure formation.
“You're Jie Zun!” Li Guo exclaimed, recognizing him.
Cheng Hongyuan also recognized the man. “You actually joined the Netherfiends?”
Jie Zun was a once-famous powerhouse from their era. He had long been presumed dead, yet he had just reappeared, and he had even revealed himself to be a peak Dukkhan.
As the master of Deathmound’s Reversed Speech Mountain, Li Guo was well informed of many of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s most powerful experts. Jie Zun was the ancestor of the Jie family, which Deathmound had exterminated for violating the taboo of stealing cultivated spirit seeds for Seed Transfusions. Jie Zun had escaped his family’s destruction, though all the other family members had been slaughtered. At that time, he had only been a Dukkhan, rather than a peak Dukkhan. By all logic, the man should have never been able to advance his cultivation any further.
Despite it being impossible, Jie Zun was clearly a peak Dukkhan, after already accepting a Seed Transfusion.
All three of the powerhouses present had become peak Dukkhans through Seed Transfusions.
“Jie Zun, Li Guo is a part of Deathmound, your sworn enemy! They wiped out your Jie family! Kill him!” Cheng Hongyuan shrieked, bringing up the downfall of the Jie family, which had once been one of the West Domain’s old families.
Li Guo clenched his teeth. Both the white skeleton and the Netherfiends were on Deathmound’s must-kill list. Let them all die!
He looked up at the sky as Clear Moon, Scattered Stars descended.
The moonlight continued to erase both Cheng Hongyuan and Jie Zun’s bodies.
Jie Zun suddenly charged at Li Guo. The red-shrouded man’s eyes looked eerie, having taken on a red color while the pupils had transformed into slits. His gaze sent chills down the spine. He threw a punch, and streams of red energy ran down his arm, blasting forward.
In front of Li Guo, the spirit treasures’ danger zones gathered, but it was unable to withstand the blow. The punch sent the man flying, and his Clear Moon, Scattered Stars dissipated because of his severe injuries.
Cheng Hongyuan let out a breath of relief. With Jie Zun attacking, all that Cheng Hongyuan needed to do now was grab Li Guo and at the crucial moment and run away.
However, at that moment, Jie Zun turned and threw a punch at Cheng Hongyuan as well.
The man was completely dumbfounded. Why was Jie Zun attacking him?
He had nothing to do with the Netherfiends.
The red energy filled Jie Zun’s punch with terrifying destructive power, and it tore through the remaining danger zones before careening on towards Cheng Hongyuan.
The man dodged, but he continued to stare at Jie Zun. “Why are you attacking me?”
No emotion could be seen in the man’s eyes. His slitted scarlet eyes were locked onto Cheng Hongyuan. Jie Zun stepped forward... and vanished.
Cheng Hongyuan's expression changed dramatically. The Netherfiends were no ordinary faction. The Nine Odysseys Megaverse publicly knew Deathmound as the most powerful faction, aside from the Immortal Greater Sancti, and the Netherfiends alone were capable of opposing Deathmound. The Netherfiends had existed for too long, and the name was feared by all who knew it.
Many had believed that the Netherfiends had vanished after Greater Sancte Mi Jin’s death, but they had suddenly reappeared. Not only that, but someone as powerful as Jie Zun had revealed that they were a part of them.
Li Guo’s earlier suspicions were completely accurate. It was not easy for Cheng Hongyuan to seize control of a Dukkhan’s bones. First, he needed to implant Bone Script.
That was the reason why Li Guo had heard a faint voice whispering through the communication device. Had Li Guo not lowered his guard and heard that whisper, Bone Script would have never been implanted, and Cheng Hongyuan would not have dared to make a move against the man. Cheng Hongyuan knew that he was not Li Guo’s match.
However, no Bone Script had been implanted into Jie Zun, and it was almost impossible for that to happen in the middle of battle. In the face of Jie Zun’s power, Cheng Hongyuan was starting to buckle.
Seventeen instant spirit treasure formations.
The danger zones all converged in front of him, shattering the void as the attack tore across the sky.
Jie Zun responded with a single punch. The red power met the formations head-on, only for the danger zones to be dispersed. Each formation was forcibly swept aside.
Seventeen instant formations was not a weak attack, and yet its flaw was obvious. The power could not be focused. The stronger the opponent, the weaker the technique became. It was against weaker opponents that the instant formations shone.
Jie Zun stepped forward, fully scattering the spirit treasure formations. His punch landed directly on Cheng Hongyuan’s body, causing the man to spit out blood as he slammed into the ground.
Cheng Hongyuan was in a sorry state. Half of his body was destroyed, exposing pale white bones that emitted a ghastly glow.
Jie Zun threw another punch, clearly intending to simply kill Cheng Hongyuan.
Cheng Hongyuan stared at Jie Zun while repeatedly muttering something under his breath.
Boom!
The land around Cragpeak was shattered by Jie Zun’s punch. The cracks spread across Skyveil City, splitting it in two. red energy shot into the sky, leaving countless onlookers dumbfounded.
This was a terrifying form of power, to the point where even peak Dukkhans felt unable to lift their heads.
Jie Zun retracted his fist. He turned around and walked over to Li Guo. Each step left a deep imprint on the ground.
