Chapter 3900: Light

Lu Yin was not the only one who saw Venerable Lan Ye’s death, as Wei Heng, Jing Lian, Qing Yun, Granny Yin, and many others also witnessed it. All of them grew silent. There were times when death could arrive suddenly.

Lu Yin took a step forward, instantly appearing at the place where Venerable Lan Ye had died. Absolutely nothing had been left behind. All that lay beneath Lu Yin’s feet were the shattered remains of the Mother Tree.

The Mother Tree that had once supported the entire Orchid Megaverse had shattered into pieces after collapsing. Even the rubble was continuing to shrink as the megaverse was reset.

It would not take long for even the Mother Tree’s fragments to disappear forever.

When the process was finished, would a new Mother Tree appear?

Lu Yin walked across the remains of the Mother Tree, touching the already fractured bark. It was very rough, and it easily crumbled apart, even without much force.

He did not know why, but seeing the Mother Tree shatter as the megaverse was reset caused him to feel an inexplicable sadness. Was the Mother Tree the first life in the megaverse? If the megaverse was destroyed, then so would the Mother Tree.

What had the Mother Tree represented to the Orchid Megaverse? Had it been a child?

As the megaverse was reset and universes were destroyed, the Mother Tree also broke apart. If the megaverse had possessed some sort of consciousness, it might feel like it was helplessly watching its own child shatter before its eyes. It would be an absolutely suffocating feeling.

Lu Yin crouched down and placed a hand on the remains of the Mother Tree and muttered, “Let me see you off on your final journey.”

As he spoke, he instantly released enough power to completely destroy all that remained of the Mother Tree.

At that moment, the Mother Tree turned to ash and vanished from the universe.

Lu Yin remained crouched down as the Mother Tree’s ashes swirled around him. Within the ashes, a faint green light appeared, and all of it poured into Lu Yin’s body.

He was completely astonished. What is this?

He raised a hand, letting the green light fall onto it, only for the light to pass right through his palm. I can’t touch it? But all of the green light is entering my body.

Lu Yin released his inner universe. All of the green light flew into it, where it gathered together to form a larger green glow.

However, he was still unable to touch the green light.

Lu Yin could not make sense of it. He asked Jing Lian and the others, but everyone just shook their heads and said that they had not seen any green light, let alone understand what Lu Yin had experienced. Wei Heng, Lu Sizhan, and the others had never seen the green light; it was only visible to Lu Yin.

Could that green glow be the spirit of the Mother Tree?

The Mother Tree was completely gone, and even its ashes had scattered away. Lu Yin could not be sure if it was just an illusion, but it seemed like the Orchid Megaverse’s reset was accelerating.

A short while later, Gu Duanke went to see Lu Yin, and he asked when the younger man planned to return to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

Lei Gong and Venerable Lan Ye had both died, which had effectively put an end to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s time here. Regardless of whether or not others managed to comprehend anything, it was no longer necessary to stay here. If people had not gained any insights at the beginning of the reset, it was unlikely that they would gain anything later on.

It had been thirteen years since they had left the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, ten of which had been spent in the Orchid Megaverse. It was not a long time, but also not short.

The Seventh Night Pillar was ready to return to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse at any time. They were simply waiting for Lu Yin to finish.

Lu Yin replied, “Let’s wait a few more years. Just let me finish cleaning up all of the Immortal matter.”

This was Gu Duanke’s first time hearing anyone say something like “clean up all of the Immortal matter.” He could not help but feel a burst of envy. The fact that Lu Yin was willing to recklessly gather so much Immortal matter indicated his confidence that the Greater Sancti would not confiscate it all when they returned to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Not only that, but Lu Yin had collected so much without suffering any backlash. Actually, how is he even doing that?

Lu Yin had collected a tremendous amount of Immortal matter, which clearly indicated his intention of using it. That meant that he had to have learned Immortal battle techniques.

For someone to have such vast stores of Immortal matter as well as Immortal battle techniques, it meant that Lu Yin was genuinely unmatched by any in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse beneath the Immortal realm.

Gu Duanke did not try to rush Lu Yin. There was no problem with waiting. For cultivators, decades or even centuries meant little.

Both Luo Nanshan and Yu Jing were at the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s Skyward Gate. The Luo family, the Yu family, and experts hired by both of them had gathered at the gate. If people from the Spirit Nidus decided to attack the Skyward Gate, they would need to first face the gathered cultivators.

There were a large number of cultivators gathered both inside and outside the Skyward Gate, though the people from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse did not measure up to even a tenth of those from Spirit Nidus.

“Is there still no word from Yu Xing?” Luo Nanshan asked as he looked over at Yu Jing.

Yu Jing gravely answered, “Something’s happened to him.”

“Then we can only prepare for the worst.”

“So far, no peak Dukkhans have appeared from the Spirit Nidus, which means that either of us can suppress them. What worries me is whoever is behind all of this.”

Luo Nanshan looked back to the Skyward Gate. “If it really is Master Qing Cao, then what? Only a Greater Sancte can deal with him.”

Yu Jing shook his head. “Even if it is Master Qing Cao, he won’t act openly. If he was going to do that, he would have already attacked the gate. Still, there’s no doubt that he’s involved, as how else would these people have the nerve to challenge the Skyward Gate? My real fear is that there’s someone else in addition to Qing Cao.”

Outside the Skyward Gate, beneath the distant stars of Heavenspire, countless cultivators were sitting cross-legged, facing the gate with eyes that radiated hatred and resentment.

Upon learning that the Nine Odysseys Megaverse controlled and harvested the Spirit Nidus, the megaverse’s fury had finally ignited. More and more people gathered, but they did not attack the gate yet. They waited, simmering. Once they were no longer able to hold themselves back, war would break out.

At the very front stood Lan and Zi Tianshu, representing the Ascendant Hall.

At the back were Feng Bo and Arrow God. They were surrounded by a circle of people who were calmly sitting like everyone else, but if anyone looked closely, they would see that these people all had slitted scarlet eyes.

“It’s time. Release them.”

“The moment is finally here. I can’t wait to see the looks on the faces of those people in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse! Does the Luo family really think that they can hold back this tide?”

A new group arrived in Heavenspire, and they moved past all of the seated Spirit Nidus cultivators and continued on to the Skyward Gate. Eventually, they stood at the very front of the crowd.

“Open the Skyward Gate now and let me in. I am Yu Jie, of the Four Commands Sword Sect’s North Command.”

“I am Ren Fu of the Autumnspring Slip.”

“I am Yun Pingping of the Third Night Pillar.”

“Let me in. My master is a guest elder of the Qiunan family.”

“I...”

Inside the Skyward Gate, Luo Nanshan and Yu Jing were both staring blankly into the distance. “How is this possible? Are those people really who they claim to be?”

“Quick! Check the entry and exit records!”

“Patriarch, those people... all of them are telling the truth. They all passed through the Skyward Gate to go to the Spirit Nidus, but they should all be dead. How are they here?”

Yu Jing’s face grew pale. “A conspiracy... This is a conspiracy. Someone put this plan into play long, long ago.”

Before the High Seraph had defeated Ru Shi, people from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse had frequently disguised themselves and roamed about the Spirit Nidus, causing chaos there. Some of those people had died, but most had returned to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse unharmed.

However, even if only a few had died at any given time, those deaths had accumulated over the ages. All of the people who had been reported dead had just reappeared, and altogether, their numbers were significant.

There were thousands of people gathered outside of the Skyward Gate, and they represented all of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse major factions, including the Temporal Heavens, the Nine Odysseys, and even the Greater Sancti.

While there was no problem with preventing Spirit Nidus cultivators from passing through the Skyward Gate, how could they keep these people out?

“I just woke up. I’ve been in cryostasis this whole time. What era is this? Let me through. I want to return to my family!”

“Luo family! I’m a disciple of the Dream Dominion. Let me through!”

“I was in the middle of performing a task for Deathmound, and it is still not finished. Open the Skyward Gate and let me through...”

Luo Nanshan and Yu Jing felt chills run down their spines. This was not something that they could stop. Someone had laid out detailed plans leading to this exact moment. This was a conspiracy that spanned countless generations, and possibly even dozens of eras. The Skyward Gate was doomed to fall.

In the Spirit Nidus’s Consciousness Domain, Shi Xiu was reprimanding a group of cultivators. “Who told you that we should attack the Skyward Gate? I’ve already said that our Consciousness Domain will not get involved in this matter!”

One of the people down below bitterly retorted, “The Nine Odysseys Megaverse plunders our Spirit Nidus at will, harvesting our cultivation for their own benefit! They are able to rip our spirit seeds away from us at whim, instantly killing us! We cannot accept this any longer!”

“We beg you, Alliance Leader, order the Consciousness Domain to throw its full strength against the Skyward Gate.”

Shi Xiu roared in fury, “Get out!”

One by one, the cultivators left.

Daoist Fengzhi walked over. “Alliance Leader, no group is able to suppress this, neither the Primal Beastland nor the Phantom Reach. Nearly half the cultivators from the thirty-six domains have already gone to confront the Skyward Gate. Even those lunatics from the Revelation Domain are there. No one can stop this.”

Shi Xiu groaned, his head aching, and Daoist Fengzhi hesitated to say something more.

“What is it?”

“Alliance Leader... if we don’t fight back, our Spirit Nidus will truly be reduced to nothing more than a puppet of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. We cultivate our entire lives, only to benefit them. Should things really be this way?”

Shi Xiu answered in a bitter tone, “Just that one, single gate has already blocked our Spirit Nidus for more than ten years. Do you really think that we have the strength to stand up to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse?”

“But the invincible being has appeared!”

“Have you seen them?”

Daoist Fengzhi opened his mouth to reply, but nothing came out.

Many people believe it, simply because the only way that Heavenspire could have connected to the Spirit Nidus was with the strength of an Immortal. The conclusion that the invincible being had appeared had come from the Wisdom Domain, though Old Yu had not appeared in more than a decade.

“What about those bugs?” Shi Xiu suddenly asked.

Daoist Fengzhi replied, “They’ve already been dealt with. They were just some bugs, nothing more. However, no one knows who bred them.”

“Don’t be careless. Those bugs reproduce extremely quickly, and I have a bad feeling about them.”

“Understood.”

In the Spirit Treasure Domain, Su Shidao was also struggling to restrain his subordinates from going to confront the Skyward Gate. The same was true for the Daquan Domain’s Chamber of Commerce. Still, those three domains could not suppress the entire Spirit Nidus.

At this moment, all that the Spirit Nidus lacked was a catalyst to trigger an attack on the Skyward Gate.
