305 – Unappreciative (牛嚼牡丹)
The moment Jiang Xia heard what his mother said, he froze as his face was filled with embarrassment.
Jiang Xia was a person who cared about his reputation, hence why he could never imagine himself asking for a discount. However, upon thinking carefully, Yu Ling Tea Pavilion was their competitor anyways, surely they couldn’t just give their money to them. With this reasoning, Jiang Xia supported his mother’s action.
Upon hearing this, the employee wasn’t surprised at all since this was the first day of the store opening, people who were interested in joining the ruckus or people who wanted discounts would surely come. Otherwise, most of the newly opened shops would not offer any discounts to attract people.
“Our manager said that any customers that arrive before 2 p.m. can taste our wide selection of teas for free. Please.” The employee gestured courteously.
Originally, the store was only offering some discounts, but most of the guests here were invited by Jing Yun Zhao to garner publicity. Although these public figures didn’t care about the money for a cup of tea, they cared about their reputation. Thus, she told Chu Rong to waive the bill for all of them.
In fact, the congratulatory gifts that they brought were more expensive than the tea they drank.
Since the bill was waived for the invited guests, obviously the same must be done for the customers who came due to their curiosity. Otherwise, the customers that saw the guests not needing to pay the bill might feel discriminated against, hence why Chu Rong set a time limit on the provided discount.
Mother Jiang took out her phone and saw that it was 1.30, there were still 30 minutes before 2p.m..
“Son, let’s go in,” Mother Jiang said with joy on her face, then she turned to the employee and continued, ”Excuse me, we want a table for two Then can you get us a pot of special grade Junshan Yinzhen and Longjing tea?”
The employee’s mouth twitched upon hearing what Mother Jiang said, but they still gave a bright smile and replied, “Of course.”
“Then, brew the tea richer and thicker.” Mother Jiang said in excitement. The moment she saw an empty table in the hall, she instantly pulled Jiang Xia over there.
Usually, the employee would let the customers go to the second floor for a more quiet experience to let them relax, since the hall on the first floor had a serious atmosphere as most people there were discussing business or politics.
The employee never thought that the mother-son duo would be so brave.
“Manager, those customers want a pot of Junshan Yinzhen and Longjing tea…” The employee told Chu Rong.
Many of the customers that came didn’t care about the price, and as there was a tea list, the employees would tell the customers that it was free only when they wanted to pay. Naturally, there were a few customers that ordered teas that were on the pricey side, but they were still mindful. On the other hand, the mother-son duo came in and instantly ordered two pots of tea.
“They’re the owner’s wife and son of the ‘First Tea Pavilion’ across the street.”
While another employee came over and explained, “I’ve worked for them previously, and they were extremely stingy…”
The amount of tea leaves used to brew tea was different for each type of tea, but when Jiang Wen Xing brewed tea it would always be pretty much the same.
“A pot of Pu Er Tea in their shop cost from 600 to more than 1,300 yuan, but there’s only at most 16 grams of tea leaves used to brew it…” one server spoke.
500 grams of normal Pu Er tea leaves cost about 20,000 to 50,000 yuan. After calculating it, you’d know they’d suddenly earn a huge amount of profit. 1
Chu Rong hated those who used tea only as a way to make a living and didn’t have an ounce of respect. Yet, Jing Yun Zhao beside her raised an eyebrow and smiled, “Since they want it, then just serve it. Since they’re so unappreciative, they probably won’t be able to understand its taste.”
They still wanted their reputation and the trust of their consumers. Since they said everything would be free before 2pm, they couldn’t go against it.
However, as people from the First Tea Pavilion, they actually came all the way here to drink tea. What would others think if they knew about it?
Jing Yun Zhao directly found a server and arranged for her to go around the neighbourhood.
Not long later, someone sent over the tea that the Jiang mother and son ordered.
