Chapter 71: A Father’s Haunting Presence (1)
All specialists from the Capital First Hospital were gathered in the conference room at three in the afternoon for a consultation regarding Ye Tianxin’s grandmother.
Ye Tianxin sat in the corner anxiously and listened while the specialists discussed her grandmother’s condition.
As she barely knew anything about medical science, the technical terms used sounded strange to her, and she was at a loss as to how to respond.
“Based on Grandmother’s current condition, could she still undergo surgery?” she asked worriedly when the specialists ended their discussion.
One of the surgeons replied, “In theory, your grandmother’s illness could be treated if she were to undergo surgery and take chemo drugs simultaneously. However, every surgery poses a risk. No doctor could guarantee a hundred percent success rate for an operation, and I am no exception.”
Ye Tianxin was well aware that her grandmother’s condition was tricky and that it came with a relatively high surgical risk. The specialists had already given her a clear explanation earlier.
Li Qingcang stole one glance at Ye Tianxin’s petite face from the corner of his eye and noticed that she had turned pale. He became more concerned about Ye Tianxin.
“So we could treat Grandmother’s illness effectively if she undergoes surgery and takes the chemo drugs? What are the odds?” Ye Tianxin continued to inquire about her grandmother’s treatment plan.
After a moment of silence, the lead surgeon replied, “Fifty percent.”
‘Fifty… That’s only half a chance,’ Ye Tianxin thought. She felt a sudden pang spreading out from her heart. She had no idea how to face the harsh reality that awaited her.
“In that case, please schedule her for surgery now,” she requested.
The chief surgeon nodded and reminded, “Sure, Ms. Ye, but we still could not perform surgery on your grandmother. You’re not of age yet to give consent even though you are her immediate family.”
“Is that so?” she muttered, and the lead surgeon nodded silently. As there were many medical disputes lately, the hospital had become exceptionally careful and stringent involving surgeries, out of fear of encountering any trouble.
“I’ll sign,” Li Qingcang suggested, stepping forward.
“Grandmother’s condition is already quite severe and would worsen with each passing day,” Li Qingcang stated. “Besides, she can’t afford to wait until Ye Tianxin turns 18 before she undergoes surgery.”
“Li… Young Master Li, I would advise you to think twice,” the director of the Capital First Hospital warned.
Li Qingcang waved his huge hands and dismissed the director’s warning, “Give me all the documents. I’ll sign them now.”
When he received the documents, he signed them as fast as he could, under the watchful eyes of all the specialists, and took up full responsibility like a man. The director of the hospital could not help but take a second look at Ye Tianxin.
‘Young Master Li of the Capital had always been reserved. Of all people, why does he seem to have a soft spot for this young lady from the countryside? Could none of the ladies from the wealthy families in the Capital hold a candle to this girl? They would be so upset if this is the case,’ he wondered.
‘I better report this to Mr. Li so I will not be held responsible in case anything go wrong. I’ll also seek advice from him,’ the director contemplated.
Ye Tianxin was reticent after coming out of the conference room with Li Qingcang. She was often reminded of how fortunate she was to have met a great man like Li Qingcang when she donated blood back then. Being alone in the huge capital, she would have struggled terribly if they hadn’t crossed paths.
“Tianxin,” Lu Jijun suddenly called out from behind her.
Ye Tianxin was stunned to see him, and a fleeting look of disgust flashed across her eyes. “Why is he here again?” she growled.
“Tianxin, why did you change wards?” he asked.
