Chapter 448 - 448 Realisation
448 Realisation
There was a line that appeared in the Cathaysia Legends or some martial arts novels: A swordsman reached a bottleneck and was unable to break through despite how hard he practiced. However, he came to a sudden realization in the middle of a remote and turbulent forest and became a peerless expert.
Lin Jie used a sword and could be considered half a swordsman as well. However, the concept of ‘realization’ was not accepted in the game. Players could only gather skills and techniques, but these were not considered ‘apperception’ in the game. The New Age was the only holographic game in the entire world. However, it was impossible to integrate such an abstract concept despite how realistic the game may be.
The way The New Age presented the concept was through the ‘heritage’ collected by players. The ‘heritage’ did not refer to the equipment ranks, but instead, it was the items. Taking the Training Handbook Fragment as an example, it recorded the reflections that Wind Rider Sword Saint had while he was training. If Lin Jie was able to piece them together, it would serve as a useful reference for him. In other words, if he could complete the handbook, he could level up his combo attacks.
Taking a simple example, the Silent Killer that Lin Jie had, was capable of firing combo attacks. However, its combo attack judgment required a consecutive target hit within 0.3 seconds, when the Warriors’ ranged weapons attack distance could reach up to 3.6 seconds. Hence, making it impossible to unleash a combo move.
After receiving items such as the Training Handbook, the system would forcefully decrease the difficulty level for you, such as shooting out an additional bullet when you were unable to link up the consecutive attacks, to ensure that your combo attack could be completed. This was the game’s version of ‘apperception’!
However, this sort of realization meant to serve as a hint for players: If your abilities are strong enough, you can disregard the inferiority of your equipment and destroy your opponents with your techniques.
“It’s pretty hard to collect 1,000 pieces.” Lin Jie smiled bitterly as he held onto the fragment. He understood that exploring the Blade Peak Canyon would require some time. He could only hope that the situation there would be stable enough before his return.
Lin Jie took in a deep breath as he recalled how arrogant Baili Xuanyuan was. He cleared his mind of all the distractions and focused on the task on hand.
Munjo Ogres had very high EXP, Lin Jie still managed to receive 0.5% of EXP even though he was at Level 44. It seemed like he could level up after killing just 200 Ogres! There was a large number of Ogres in the canyon, he could probably level up greatly after covering the full terrain.
Lin Jie gulped down a Middle-Grade Stealth Potion and ventured towards the tent. However, the potion did not have much use against the Mini-Boss. Nonetheless, it managed to decrease the aggro level to a minimum, making Lin Jie hard to be detected by monsters.
As he was nearing the Ogres’ tent, Lin Jie was surprised to find out that there were two gigantic figures inside.
[Munjo Ogre Beast Tamer] (Silver Mini-Boss)
Level: 55
Health Points: 170,000
Magic Attack: 839-1,028
Defense:650
Special Feature: Wild Beast Summon
[Munjo Ogre Demon Priest] (Silver Mini-Boss)
Level: 55
Health Points: 100,000
Magic Attack: 650-750
Defense: 550
Special Feature: Munjo Heal
Lin Jie was relieved. If he had not killed the Munjo Ogre Warrior before bolting straight in, the consequences would be ghastly! The tent contained 3 jobs, a close combat Warrior, a long-distance Warrior, and a Healer. If the monsters were to cooperate with the Warrior blocking his attacks, the Beast Tamer inflicting damage, and the Priest healing the rest, Lin Jie would not be able to withstand their attacks. He would have to resort to the ultimate explosion of Death Rage to survive.
“Woohoo…”
The Munjo Ogre Beast Tamer detected Lin Jie’s presence immediately, and a glimmer shone through his eyes. It was the perception skill: Werewolf’s Vision.
Lin Jie’s heart dropped as his stealth mode was broken, and he got exposed. A DEBUFF appeared above his head: Detection! You are unable to go into Stealth Mode for the next 20 seconds, and the Beast Tamer’s attacks will inflict 20% more damage points.
A white wolf with razor-sharp fangs was summoned out by the Beast Tamer.
[Tamed Wild Wolf] (Elite)
Level: 55
Health Points: 75,000
Attack: 938-1,100
Defense: 400
Special Feature: Increased attack speed, Increased Critical Hit
The Wild Wolf bolted towards Lin Jie the moment it appeared and bit onto his chest. It managed to get through the Sea King Armor and stabbed deep into his flesh. Its fangs possessed a minimum of 20% Defense disregard! At the instant when its fangs left his body, Lin Jie could feel his flesh getting torn apart as the Wild Wolf’s attack activated the Bleeding effect!
-304!
Bleeding!
-101! -101!
…
As the saying went, head of brass and brow of iron, Lin Jie retaliated immediately, and his target was the wolf’s weak spot, its waist. He inflicted a quadruple 2,000+ points of damage! However, the Priest began chanting, which recovered 3,847 health points for the Wild Wolf!
‘I have to kill the Priest first.’ Lin Jie pondered for a second and was about to attack when he realized that the Beast Tamer had summoned another wolf. ‘Damn it, does this guy have Unlimited Summon?’
Luckily, the Beast Tamer stopped after summoning two wolves. It seemed like he could only summon two.
Lin Jie felt the pressure of facing two Silver Mini-Bosses!
The two Wild Wolves pounced on him, and the glimmer from the fangs made Lin Jie dodge. The Level 55 Bosses had a 22% attributes suppression over Lin Jie, coupled with the fact that these monsters were the high-status races in Blade Peak Canyon, they possessed much higher stats as compared to normal monsters.
“Wind Rider Blade Aura Executioner!”
Lin Jie’s swords sliced through the air and struck one of the wolves that flew towards him. His eyes lit up, and Broken Blade soared. Lin Jie caught the exact timing and unleashed the same attack towards the other wolf as it was blasted away by the impact.
Indeed, there were additional judgment buffs when attacking a jumping enemy.
Leaving the two wolves aside, Lin Jie advanced towards the Priest and sliced with Broken Blade towards his neck. Blood burst out, and Bleeding was activated! Lin Jie’s heart pounded wildly as he sped up his attacks and cleaved his blade towards the Priest’s neck consecutively. This was because Heart of Enrage had a Level 3 Bloodthirst against bleeding targets. The crimson blood almost filled up the whole region!
-1,626! -1,738! -1,802!
…
Combo Attack was activated, and countless blood droplets flew towards Lin Jie. His eyes shone vibrantly as he seemed to come to a realization!
Broken Blade seemed to pierce into the Munjo Ogre Demon Priest’s neck every time with precision and speed. Despite how mundane the attacks were, there seemed to be a rhythm.
Consecutive strike: 40… 45… 50…
Lin Jie frowned at the fact that despite his strong attacks, the Priest’s regen powers were overwhelmingly strong. When its health points reached below 50%, it gained an additional boost: its self-healing increased by 100%. In other words, this increased the difficulty level of killing the Priest by multiple folds. The correct strategy was to kill the Beast Tamer!
Although it would be easy for Lin Jie to kill one of them if he unleashed Death Rage, however, since he was analyzing how to kill his targets in the most efficient way using normal attack combinations, he could not always rely on that move.
Furthermore, Lin Jie had a feeling that his combo attack had reached its bottleneck once again! It was the same problem that arose when he was facing Baili Xuanyuan, he could not continue anymore beyond this point!
“Awo—”
The two wolves dashed!
Lin Jie was stunned before an idea struck him. He flicked his Broken Blade and sliced two times onto the two wolves, before unleashing a beautiful swinging kick and continuing his attacks towards the Priest. The combo attack count refreshed, and it exceeded 60!
—”Your Combo Attack has reached 60 Consecutive Strikes, your damage increases by an additional 30%, and the effect will continue until the count restarts.”
-3,948!
-4,018!
…
Lin Jie’s damage points grew, and his attacks flowed like water. The Munjo Ogre was no match for that and was slain by the combo attacks! Lin Jie came to a realization and repeated the same attack pattern against the Beast Tamer!
He left the two wolves alone, for him to connect up the combo moves when he was unable to do so while attacking the Ogre as they would pounce towards him! The Beast Tamer was defeated by Lin Jie as he fell to the ground.
“No wonder this is a training map for combo attacks.” Lin Jie killed the two wolves carelessly. The two monsters did not explode out any equipment. Although their skin were materials for soft leather armors, Lin Jie was uninterested. He pondered carefully as his eyes narrowed.
The experience that Lin Jie gained from his previous life was to understand what the system was trying to tell the players. The New Age always emphasized on a dynamic method of playing and hinted players to discover and ponder on every clue given by the system, and it was usually beneficial.
“Blade Peak Canyon is recommended by Wind Rider Sword Saint. It is a place to practice combo attacks and even learn the Berserker’s 100 Consecutive Strikes. Hence, the item inside must be related to combo moves. Such as facing the Ogre Warriors that have a very obvious retreat pattern when their Achilles’ heels are attacked. Combo attacks will be generated once their weak spots are attacked.
“The Priest and Beast Tamer are born for combo attacks! The Priest is to reveal to the players that combo attacks will activate additional effects such as Bleeding. However, my own Bleeding is not even 10%, it would be decreased to a negligible state when facing a Silver Mini-Boss.
Furthermore, the Beast Tamer and the two wolves he summoned were to remind the players to ‘switch targets’, when linking up the combo attacks grew tough, they should consider switching their target to connect the combo moves.
“However… there should be more. In this case…” Lin Jie’s mouth curled up as he left the tent and crept towards the other tent, awaiting the Ogre Warrior before killing it and entering the tent. He unleashed a series of Death Rage attacks and killed the Priest before turning towards the lone Beast Tamer and his two wolves. He grinned and said, “Come, let’s enjoy ourselves.”
