Chapter 2706: Enter The Secret Room

Chapter 2706: Enter The Secret Room

"There is a secret room hidden directly beneath this room." Yu Qi suddenly stated, her voice slicing through the quiet space. She then walked toward a specific, shadowed corner before pointing downward at the floorboards. "The entrance should be right here."

At almost the exact same moment, Lou Weizhe entered the room after finishing his thorough inspection of the long hallway outside.

"So, did you guys find anything useful?" Lou Weizhe immediately asked, looking between the two of them.

"Yeah. There is a secret room beneath this room, and we have already found the exact location of the entrance." Yu Qi explained while looking down at the worn floorboards beneath her feet.

Without wasting any time speaking further, Long Hui immediately stepped forward, balled his hand into a fist, and punched the floor heavily. The weakened wooden boards cracked, splintered, and shattered instantly under the terrifying, raw force of his fist.

Yu Qi quickly moved the broken pieces of wood aside, revealing a hidden and heavy steel door concealed underneath the damaged floorboards. She bent down, grabbed the thick iron handle firmly, and slowly pulled the heavy door open, exposing a steep, dark staircase leading downward into a pitch-black abyss.

"Let’s go down." Yu Qi stated decisively, without showing even the slightest trace of fear in her eyes.

Both men nodded without a single shred of hesitation before the three of them carefully descended the narrow staircase together, stepping into the dark. The deeper they walked underground, the stronger and more pungent the strange smell lingering within the hidden room became. The entire place was completely dark and filled with a thick, heavy, and eerie atmosphere that caused the hairs on their arms to rise instinctively.

Lou Weizhe took out a lighter from his pocket and was just about to ignite it to brighten the pitch-black surroundings when Yu Qi suddenly reached out and stopped his movement with a firm grip on his wrist.

"Don’t use the lighter. We don’t know what kind of flammable gas might be trapped inside this sealed room. If it reacts to an open flame, the entire place could instantly explode." Yu Qi warned seriously in a tense, hushed voice.

Lou Weizhe immediately froze in place as the stark realisation struck him.

Yeah... That would definitely become a complete disaster.

If an explosion really occurred underground in a confined space like this, the structural integrity of the old house above would collapse entirely. All of them might easily end up crushed and killed instantly by both the initial blast and the heavy cave-in afterwards.

The three of them carefully searched along the damp walls for another possible source of light, such as an old switch or some kind of emergency lamp, but they could not find anything functional or intact at all.

At that moment, Yu Qi suddenly reached into her spatial storage, took out a round and smooth object, and exposed it to the dark surroundings. Almost instantly, the previously pitch-black underground room became beautifully illuminated by a soft, warm, and radiant glow.

Lou Weizhe stared at the glowing object in Yu Qi’s hand with complete, open-mouthed shock written across his face. His intense curiosity toward the mysterious item immediately surged in his chest.

"Miss Tang, what exactly is that in your hand? How can it emit such a bright light without any power source?" Lou Weizhe asked curiously, widening his eyes in utter disbelief.

"This is a night pearl. It can naturally emit light within dark environments." Yu Qi explained calmly while raising it slightly higher so the light could spread further across the underground stone walls.

"A night pearl?" Lou Weizhe was completely stunned to his core.

He had heard about such legendary treasures before, but only within ancient cultivation novels and hidden spiritual texts preserved inside his sect. Those ancient records described night pearls as exceptionally rare treasures originating from the cultivation world, items that had supposedly vanished from existence long ago.

The more Lou Weizhe looked at the glowing pearl in Yu Qi’s hand, the more intensely curious he became about her true background and identity. However, he forcefully suppressed his curiosity for the time being, since they still had much more important matters to deal with regarding the missing soul. Still, he silently reminded himself that he absolutely needed to ask Yu Qi more about the mysterious item’s origin after this entire ordeal was finally over.

Once the underground room was fully illuminated by the night pearl, the three of them could finally see the hidden chamber clearly. The room itself was surprisingly large and cold, and right at the centre of the chamber stood something sinister that immediately caught their collective attention.

There was a large, dark coffin.

The three of them slowly approached the coffin together, their footsteps echoing softly on the stone floor. The closer they moved toward it, the stronger, sharper, and more unbearable the awful smell became, hanging heavy in the stagnant air.

Without a single moment of hesitation, Long Hui reached out, gripped the edge, and forcefully opened the heavy coffin lid.

Inside the coffin lay the corpse of a horribly deformed woman. Her body was already actively crawling with hundreds of wriggling maggots, which immediately explained the horrifying, rancid smell filling the underground chamber.

Yu Qi instantly blocked her sense of smell using her internal spiritual energy, cutting off the sensory assault. Long Hui did the exact same almost immediately, using his own energy to shield himself, leaving only Lou Weizhe fully exposed to the nauseating odour.

Lou Weizhe could no longer endure the sickening stench. He immediately bent over, clutching his stomach, and began to dry-heave and vomit onto the floor.
