Chapter 2624: Chapter 2624: Suspect To Supply Human Being To That Organization

"We uncovered transactions showing that Sheng Logistics was purchasing ’goods’ from Sunwei Village. Upon further investigation, we discovered those ’goods’ were actually women kidnapped from various regions. They did not just target women visiting the village. The entire village was being used as a transit point. Sheng Logistics would regularly arrive to collect the captives." Ming Xuehai explained.

Yu Qi narrowed her eyes, her voice turning cold. "And there is no way those villagers were unaware of what was happening right under their noses."

"I thought the exact same thing." Ming Xuehai agreed grimly.

"I thought the case about oppressing the small village about their goods was already bad. I never thought this company had other illegal businesses." Yu Qi said.

"Well, you just investigate one of the branches. Not the main company itself." Ming Xuehai said. Then, he turned to Lin Weiwei. "It was her to discover the strange irregularities about Sheng Logistics."

"Oh... Good job, Ms Lin." Yu Qi said, looking at Lin Weiwei.

"Hmm..." Lin Weiwei simply nodded in acknowledgement.

Yu Qi’s gaze returned to the file. Her fingers tightened around the edge of the manila folder, causing the paper to crinkle under her grip. The sterile lighting of the restaurant seemed to dim as the gravity of Ming Xuehai’s report slowly sank in.

"So, it was not just a localised crime. Sunwei Village was not just a den of opportunistic criminals. It was a well-oiled cog in a much larger machine." Yu Qi said with her voice dropped to a dangerous and low hum.

Ming Xuehai leaned forward, his expression grave and serious.

"Exactly. The logistics company provided the perfect cover. Who questions a fleet of unmarked trucks moving in and out of rural areas at night? They labelled their cargo as fruit and vegetables to bypass standard inspection. In reality, those ’goods’ were the missing women, hidden beneath crates of produce." Ming Xuehai explained.

Yu Qi could feel the temperature in the room seeming to drop. Long Hui had not said a word, but his presence had become suffocatingly oppressive. His eyes were cold as he stared intently at the ledger of transactions in the file.

"Sheng Logistics... Long Hui repeated the name like a curse. "They must have contracts with several provincial ports. If they are using those ports to move people, this is no longer just a kidnapping ring. It became an international trafficking."

Lin Weiwei, who was sitting across from them, shivered involuntarily. Despite her admiration for Yu Qi, the intensity of the conversation was overwhelming. She took a deep breath to steady herself.

"The records show that the village head of Sunwei received monthly donations from a shell company that was linked to Sheng Logistics. They were not just neighbours. They were business partners." Lin Weiwei pointed it out.

Yu Qi narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. The village had received a large sum due to their cooperation. However, she remembered that the village itself was not well developed. That meant the Sunwei Village leader had likely hidden the money from the other villagers. Even so, the villagers were still complicit in this business.

"To think they treated human lives as mere inventory. They drugged us, hid us, and then shipped us off like crates of fruit." Yu Qi let out a cold, sharp laugh. She then looked at Ming Xuehai. "What is our next move? If we strike the village again, Sheng Logistics will simply cut their losses and vanish."

"We need the head of the snake." Ming Xuehai stated, tapping a photo of a nondescript warehouse attached to the report. "This is their main distribution hub on the outskirts of the Capital. If we can link the CEO of Sheng Logistics directly to a shipment, they would not be able to hide behind legal loopholes."

Yu Qi turned to Long Hui. "Can your contacts monitor the hub without alerting them?"

Long Hui finally looked up, a predatory glint in his eyes. "I don’t need to monitor it. I can have the military intelligence unit freeze their transport licenses under the guise of a national security audit. It will force their ’cargo’ to stay grounded. When they panic and try to move the evidence, we will be waiting."

Yu Qi nodded slowly. A dark resolve settled deep within her. She was the storm coming for those who had turned her colleagues into "goods."

"Ms Lin." Yu Qi called out to Lin Weiwei.

The young woman’s shoulders jumped slightly. She quickly looked at Yu Qi, waiting attentively for her instructions.

"You did well gathering this. Keep digging into their offshore accounts. If they are as big as we suspect, they have a paper trail of bribes." Yu Qi ordered. "Oh... Cooperate with Han Baise. I assume you already know him."

Lin Weiwei nodded vigorously.

"Yes, Chairwoman Tang. I know him. I would not let them get away with this." Lin Weiwei said.

The dinner ended there. Long Hui and Yu Qi left the restaurant and headed toward their car. As they walked side by side, Yu Qi turned to Long Hui and asked quietly.

"Brother Hui, do you think that this trafficking operation has something to do with that organisation?" Yu Qi asked.

"I think so. They need living humans for their research. Sheng Logistics is probably one of their providers or, at the very least, one of their transportation channels." Long Hui replied.

MicroTech Venture. Even though they had destroyed some of its ports, they had still not managed to capture the top dogs behind the organisation. Those top dogs clearly possessed the skills and resources to evade capture time and time again.

"One day... We will close the net and catch them." Long Hui assured Yu Qi about the matter.
