Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 100 - 92: A Grand Feat

Chapter 100: Chapter 92: A Grand Feat

Digging out Crystal Cores was a dirty and troublesome affair, but for Jingjing, it was a wonderful job.

Perhaps it was because Jingjing treated everything related to Crystal Cores with an almost reverent heart.

It held the dagger with both its small paws and became incredibly skilled in no time. It dug out Crystal Cores with both speed and precision.

Tang Mo found a piece of cloth and a small bag, tying both around Jingjing’s neck with a rope.

This way, Jingjing could wipe each Crystal Core clean with the cloth after digging it out, then place it in its little bag. Once the bag was full, it would hand it over to Tang Mo.

The human and beast duo barely paused, working together to face one wave of battle after another.

Tang Mo didn’t stop because she felt time was precious. She had already wasted too much time in the comfort zone of S Base. Now, only constant fighting could put her mind at ease.

Besides, her attribute values had suddenly surged. Although Jingjing’s black pearl had soothed the internal turmoil and discomfort, she still felt uneasy.

She needed her body to adapt to the sudden increase in attribute values as quickly as possible so she could unleash their full potential.

As for Jingjing, it didn’t stop for one simple reason: its love for Crystal Cores.

The battle continued late into the night. Although Tang Mo’s vision was barely affected in the dark, she took out her Hunter’s Sleeping Bag to ensure she would be in top form mentally and physically the next day.

She and Jingjing slept in the sleeping bag, and when dawn broke, Tang Mo began yet another round of battle.

「Three days later.」

On the sentry tower at the entrance to S Base, a guard held his rifle, gazing intently at the stretch of cleared, yellow earth outside the main gate.

To get a clearer view of the area surrounding S Base, all the undergrowth and trees for kilometers in every direction had been completely cleared.

Due to the heavy foot traffic, the main gate of S Base was usually left open.

This placed extremely high demands on the guards. The two sentries had to diligently watch the area outside the gate. If any mutant beasts entered the cleared, open ground, they were to be shot on sight to prevent them from slipping into the base.

"Look! Is that a sandstorm kicking up over by the forest?"

The guard on the sentry tower said to the man beside him. At the edge where the forest met the yellow earth, a massive cloud of dust was billowing up, resembling a great tidal wave of sand.

"That’s... Oh no, it’s a Mutant Beast Group!"

The other guard, clearly older and more experienced, immediately recognized what was behind the swirling dust.

"Quick! Close the main gate!"

The two sentries on the tower immediately alerted the guards at the gate below. Panic erupted among the people, and the crowd waiting for inspection surged into S Base all at once.

The guards at the gate quickly shut it, then scrambled up the watchtowers, raising their rifles to shoot down the Mutant Beast Group on the cleared ground.

S Base’s watchtowers and firepower were quite formidable. With so many people gathered in one place, they dealt with incidents like this several times a month.

If it was a group of Basic-level Mutant Beasts, or one led by only two or three Intermediate Beasts, it usually didn’t even need to be reported. The guard squad at the gate could resolve it quickly.

"Fire!"

As the Mutant Beast Group drew closer, the guards on the watchtowers saw that the culprits behind the "sandstorm" were some thirty-odd wild boars. And running at the very front of the pack was a person.

Clearly, that person had lured the boars.

Meanwhile, Tang Mo was sprinting at the head of the pack, holding Jingjing in her arms.

For some reason, that fox Jingjing had developed a fixation on wild boars over the past few days. Half the time, the beasts it lured back were boars.

The frequent disappearances soon caught the attention of the boar pack’s leader.

And so, on its final attempt, Jingjing lured back all thirty-plus of the remaining boars in the forest.

When Tang Mo saw all those wild boars, only one word came to mind: ’Run.’

She scooped up Jingjing and bolted through the forest.

With Tang Mo’s agility, the boars couldn’t have actually caught her.

But their aggro toward her was just too high; they chased Tang Mo relentlessly, refusing to give up.

Tang Mo hadn’t intended to lead this trouble back to the base. But she’d already been running circles in the forest for ages, and her stamina was about to give out. The boars were hell-bent on getting their revenge.

Left with no other choice, she had to lead the boars home.

She knew it was in poor form, but a few boars were nothing to the base guards. Given her situation, it was the only option left.

And that led to the current scene.

Bullets have no eyes, and the guards showed no hesitation toward the person who had led the beast group to their doorstep. They raised their guns and unleashed a furious barrage of fire.

Tang Mo’s spiritual power was highly focused. She tracked the incoming bullets, her footwork constantly shifting as she ran with incredible agility.

’If this were back in the old world, her footwork would definitely make her an Olympic champion!’

As she ran, Tang Mo couldn’t help but feel a little satisfied with her own nimbleness.

By the time Tang Mo neared the S Base gate, only a single Intermediate boar leader remained in the pack chasing her.

The boar leader had tanked several bullets, but its hide was incredibly tough. Fueled by a furious, vengeful heart, it continued its pursuit of Tang Mo.

When she reached the entrance, the base gate remained tightly shut, showing no sign of opening.

Tang Mo stopped and turned to face the boar, which was still glaring at her with dogged persistence. She was so moved she could almost cry.

’What dedication! What a spirit of perseverance, worthy of song and tears! Everyone should learn from it!’

With the last of her strength, Tang Mo drew Wind Breaker and, with tears in her eyes, finished the great boar off.

Only after the guards on the watchtowers saw with their own eyes that not a single boar was left alive did they slowly reopen the S Base gate.

"You’re the one who led that pack of boars here, aren’t you?"

The captain of the guard squad, dressed in camouflage and carrying a rifle, had a righteous and commanding presence.

The Alliance’s guard squads, patrol teams, and mobile units were all composed of military personnel.

"Yes..."

Tang Mo couldn’t even think of an excuse for what she’d done.

She obediently followed the captain to a small detention room, ready to accept her punishment from the organization.

"According to Alliance regulations, if a Mutant Beast Group is lured to the base for personal reasons, the one responsible must fully compensate the base for all ammunition and manpower expended."

The captain said grimly, sitting in front of Tang Mo.

"All the ammunition and manpower?"

It was a reasonable rule, but the memory of that rain of bullets kept replaying in her mind. ’Just how many bullets was that?!’

Having bought ammunition before, she knew the base’s prices all too well. It was an astronomical sum.
