Chapter 1167 Loose Ties
Chapter 1167 Loose Ties
Right as Raynar took his first step forward, he abruptly loss control of his movement.
"Huh? What's-" Raynar tried to speak; however, the words did not leave his mouth as the world around him turned gray.
Bang!
Raynar's body hit the ground motionlessly as it turned into countless particles.
"?!" Pill Master and the players from Crimson Tigers stood with expressions of shock on their faces.
As for the other eight players from Crimson Tigers that spread out to create a secure net, not long after Raynar's body fell to the ground, they all soon followed one by one.
In the blink of an eye, Raynar and the eight players who accompanied him were eliminated. The most terrifying thing about all of this was that almost everyone present had no idea how Raynar and the others perished.
"W-what the hell is going on?!" One of the Crimson Tigers members exclaimed.
"Is it a ghost-type monster?!" Another player from Crimson Tigers commented.
"Shut your mouths!" Saber Fang's voice boomed, causing the members of Crimson Tigers to immediately silence themselves.
Saber Fang narrowed his eyes as he glanced over at Raynar's body as the last bit faded away.
"I thought that Izroth guy and Haishe would be the only threats here, but... What kind of speed is that? Annoying." Saber Fang thought to himself as he saw several cuts on Raynar's body.
Saber Fang did not live under a rock; therefore, he knew that Izroth was currently placed first on the event leaderboards by a wide margin.
Saber Fang was confident in his strength; however, he was not foolish. Due to his large and muscular appearance, he was always seen as a reckless brawn over brains type in the eyes of others. But, in truth, he preferred to use his head to solve things.
That's why he let Raynar and a few members of Crimson Tigers test the waters before treading into it himself. However, he never expected that they would prove to be so useless.
Nevertheless, Raynar could only be considered a slightly above average player at best. As for the others who attacked with him, they were not even worth mentioning.
"We didn't get as much information from that little exchange as I hoped, but it's fine. It looks like there's no choice but to step ourselves." Saber Fang stated calmly.
"I'm at your service, big bro. I hope you don't forget our promise." Zombie King said as the book in his hands emitted an unsettling blood red energy.
The next moment, several boney hands with rotten flesh attached to them emerged from the earth. And, not long after, seven ghouls rose from the ground.
The ghouls that appeared humanoid and stood slumped over; however, it was difficult to make out what race they were when they were alive due to their physical features being damaged beyond recognition.
A strange black miasma lingered around the ghouls' bodies, making one feel uneasy and nauseous.
Saber Fang slammed his gauntlets together. When he performed this action, the roar of a beast echoed as a strong shockwave was sent outward in every direction.
Then, in one motion, Saber Fang kicked off his back foot and charge forward at an incredible speed.
Right as Saber Fang took a few steps, he felt a cold energy rushing toward him from the side.
Swoosh! Ding!
Saber Fang raised his gauntlet and guarded against the incoming strike that came from a dagger being held by Azalea's Phantom of Harmony.
The Phantom of Harmony and the dagger it held was encompassed by the same black miasma that lingered around the ghouls summoned by Zombie King.
"Relying on your speed alone to face us will be your downfall." Zombie King said with black mana wrapped around his left hand.
Zombie King had a rare summoner-type class called Undead Summoner. As its name described, it allowed him to summon undead creatures to do his bidding.
One of the strengths of the Undead Summoner was a powerful crowd control skill called Steps of the Undead.
Steps of the Undead was an AOE crowd control skill that reduced targets speed by 75% and lowered their magic resistance by 30% for 10 seconds.
Having ones speed reduced to that extent while being surrounded by undead summons
Saber Fang grinned as he swung his arm outward, pushing the Phantom of Harmony back several meters. Almost immediately after doing so, a surge of power rushed through Saber Fang's legs as he appeared in front of the Phantom of Harmony with his fists already in a swinging motion.
Saber Fang possessed the rare fighter-type class known as Fists of Pursuit. It was a class that focused on chasing down its enemies in a nonstop manner, leaving them with little to no breathing room or opportunity to launch counterattacks.
The skill Saber Fang used to instantly close the distance between himself and the Phantom of Harmony was called Relentless Pursuit. Although it seemed as if he moved instantaneously, in reality, he just received a brief massive speed boost. Though what made Relentless Pursuit truly terrifying was the fact that once Saber Fang marked his target with the skill, no matter how far away they ran or if they used a stealth skill, they would not be able to escape his chase.
Woosh!
Saber Fang grinned as his fists slammed into the Phantom of Harmony. However, the grin on his face quickly transformed into a frown as the impact of his fist felt off.
Less than a half a breath after Saber Fang's fist collided with the Phantom of Harmony, it turned into a congress of ravens and the Phantom of Harmony was nowhere to be found.
Meanwhile, as the Phantom of Harmony clashed with Saber Fang and Zombie King, Izroth remained unbothered by the altercation and still had his attention on Haishe.
Haishe was momentarily at a loss for words. At the point, he had a troubled and darkened expression as he stood not too far away from Izroth with furrowed brows.
"Why is he acting this way? Does he have some kind of grudge against those things? Just when I thought things were going well... Dammit. If I say anything here, I won't be let off easy. That group isn't something that I can afford to offend. But, fighting this guy here and permanently burning the bridge I worked so hard to hold together is out of the question." Haishe thought to himself with his eyes closed.
A few seconds later, Haishe released a long sigh as he shook his head and opened his eyes. He threw his hands into the air helplessly and said, "Fine, I don't know why you're interested in it, but I'll tell you what I know."
"It'll be troublesome to explain. But, as long as I pay every here a little extra to keep quiet, what I say shouldn't leave this place. Yes, I'll just have to dangerous tread the thread like I always do." Haishe thought to himself.
"Fatal Touch as a whole has nothing to do with the shadahi. But, there is a division that has been exclusively tasked by a certain client to collect all information regarding the shadahi." Haishe explained.
'An exclusive division devoted entirely to collecting information about the shadahi? To get an organzation like Fatal Touch to take on such a request must have cost the client a small fortune. Why would they invest so much into learning about the shadahi?'
Fatal Touch was mostly made up of players whose skills were comparable to the members of the top guilds. Employing their services was easy enough as long as one had money. However, getting them to dedicate a division of players to a singular task was something that required more than just money. It also required a certain level of influence.
"Your former leader took on an appearance similar to that of the shadahi. I was even able to sense a similar power that I felt in the shadahi in him. Are you still trying to tell me that Fatal Touch is only gathering information?" Izroth said with a cold gaze.
"That fool Silent Steps chose to do that of his own accord after receiving some reports. He saw an opportunity to seize a new power and he did. Surely, you won't ask that I answer for his greed?" Haishe stated.
'It doesn't seem like he's lying, but... If he is telling the truth, then someone has been digging into the shadahi well before I entered the Chaotic Dogma Realm. It's even possible that they learned about the existence of the shadahi around the same time that I did.'
