Chapter 951 951: Balance?
“What should we ask it though? If it’s a randomly generated dragon, won’t it just spew some randomly generated shit?” Rael asked matter-of-factly.
Though Gaia still didn’t buy it. She had a good grasp of how these worlds worked, since this wasn’t the first time she had actually been to one. Rather, she was a bit more convinced that the only reason Nyx was thinking that it might be generated was because the buildings and architecture resembled her old world a lot.
Even Gaia was feeling a little nostalgic. But despite that, she didn’t let her feelings cloud her judgment. This was a normal world, but it was also a relatively special world, as it had a direct connection to the Abyss as well as the special world realm where all the Concepts were staying.
Glancing around and seeing so many glowing blue columns, Gaia knew that for that to be possible, this world would need to be isolated. Maybe a world in the Abyss itself? Was that why Ren didn’t want anyone to find any of the worlds, since they might just go ahead and invade them directly?
Why even create such an infrastructure to begin with? Wouldn’t it be much safer and easier to just have one entrance to their realm, rather than millions, if not billions? Gaia didn’t quite understand it, and while she doubted that the dragon would actually tell them anything either, she was of the firm belief that dragons were one of the most intelligent species.
…Even if they were such low-level.
So without hesitation, she went ahead and tapped the dragon’s snout. In the next instant, the dragon’s eyes slowly opened, and before the dragon could even realize what was happening, it was met with the pressure of so many powerful beings that it almost passed out again.
But seeing Nyx’s beautiful face, the dragon snapped out of its stupor and stared at all three of them stone-faced.
“How may I be of assistance, great beings?” the dragon muttered.
Rael let out a sigh. “You’re a bootlicker? I thought dragons were proud?”
“Proud? Yes. But once our survival instincts start to scream, we scream alongside them,” the dragon replied, then bowed slightly. “Forgive my earlier rudeness, as I had not recognized your greatness. Now, if I may, what exactly did you stop me for? Is it my Dragon Heart?”
Rael narrowed his eyes at the dragon and took a peep at its Dragon Heart. It was barely a pebble, and the amount of mana it was circulating wasn’t even enough for Rael to use some kind of telekinesis to wipe his own ass.
In short, there was no way he was here for its Dragon Heart. Anyhow, noticing how hopeless this dragon was, Gaia decided to be the one to do the interrogation, and she did it fairly kindly.
“Say, what exactly is this world? Why is it connected to the Abyss?”
“The Abyss?” the dragon tilted its head. “What’s that?”
It spoke honestly, and all three of them knew that. Except there was one crucial factor that made Rael raise a brow at that statement.
“Don’t you see those thingies?” He pointed at the light columns.
The dragon turned toward one of those light columns and let out a sigh. “Those are Columns of Ascension. Once we come of age or have some kind of complaint, we make a prayer directly to the gods, and depending on the extent of our prayer, our prayers get answered.”
Nyx grumbled. “So you’ve never tried going up those columns?”
The dragon shook its head. “How could I? I can’t fly past 1,000 meters. There’s an invisible barrier blocking me from going higher. In our entire history, there was one dragon who managed to get past the 1,000-meter mark, but then his skull flew down from the sky and formed a giant crater.”
The dragon gulped. “Even if the barrier wasn’t there, I wouldn’t go up. There aren’t that many dragons left to begin with, so I don’t want to throw my life away for no reason.”
“That’s fair.” Rael nodded. “Well then, what about the location of this world? Have you guys tried leaving it?”
Nyx rolled her eyes. “Didn’t he just say he can’t go above 1,000 meters? How is he supposed to leave this world?”
Ah.
Right.
“I take it that’s why the level of this world is so low. The lower it is, the less detectable it is,” Gaia determined, then let out a sigh. “I suppose it’s not a bad decision, but I still don’t understand what the purpose of these worlds is, rather than them just acting as pillars.”
“Maybe backup?” Rael thought. “Let’s say their realm falls. They could go to this world and then start anew. Though, I’m probably just bullshitting. Odds are, they signed some kind of contract that makes it balanced.”
A thought popped up into Nyx’s head. “Wait, maybe the reason they have such weaknesses is really because they seek balance? As in, anyone could defeat them if they just find the right methods?”
That did seem to be the case. After all, they were advocating equality and whatever. Balance in this regard would only work if every side was equal. Rael found that thought a bit silly, since even the most powerful beings had a backdoor to being practically killed instantly.
Despite that, Rael didn’t comment on it further, as all three of them had come to the same conclusion. Finally, they just waved at the dragon, practically telling it to buzz off. Obviously, the dragon seemed skeptical at first, and to assure it that Rael was serious, he decided to add another comment.
“You’re looking very dissectible right now. If you don’t leave in the next 10 seconds, you’re going to be my dinner. One, two… and he’s gone.”
The figure of the dragon running away caused Rael to let out a chuckle. But with the new knowledge, Rael had a lot more insight into how these beings worked, even if he came to the conclusion by himself.
He was basically done here, and he could go back up. But for the sake of spending some time not surrounded by a stalker and some other weirdos, Rael and the others decided to check out the cities before heading back.
