Chapter 733: Companion And Perks
Chapter 733: Companion And Perks
“Nyx…”
Honestly, Rael was really flattered and all, but seriously…
“I’m sure you’re already aware of what I’m doing and who I’m up against. Although I don’t know you, I do know you’re one of the Ancient Primordials. I don’t want to involve you any more than I should.”
Nyx shook him by the collar.
“Haah? Do you think I care about those people? You could put me in one room with a thousand of them and I’ll hate every single one. They’re just wastes of space who think they’re better than each other. I, on the other hand, actually am better. That’s why I’ll never get along with them.”
And yet here you are, trying to make me contract you, Rael thought with a sigh.
“Let’s say I do contract you, what exactly can you do? A Spirit like the one I had just accompanied me along and stuff, talked in my head—”
“Yes yes, I know what a spirit does,” Nyx interjected. “I can be a spirit like that, except I can appear in my true form whenever I want.”
Rael thought about it for a moment, then deadpanned:
“So you’re basically just a companion then.”
“Pretty much. What do you say? Would you rather I send you on the natural course of that perk of yours, at which point you might get a Spirit Emperor at most, or… Do you want someone like me, who is more powerful than the majority of the people in the universe without having even trained for a single century!”
It was like a job interview.
Honestly, Rael was feeling like there was more to it, considering that she was so desperate.
But there were no lies in her words, and since he knew he might actually not get anyone better, Nyx was as good as any companion.
The moment Rael had that thought, a pop-up appeared in front of him.
<Ding!>
<Would you like to assign: Nyx, The Goddess of Eternal Slumber as your companion? Yes / No>
That’s it? Rael raised a brow. Is it not even going to tell me more information? Well… Shit.
“You said you haven’t done much training. Then are you not a fighter?” he asked bluntly.
Nyx hummed.
“I can be a fighter. Though I’m mostly a strategist, since I can come up with strategies while I sleep… and I sleep a lot, hehe.”
Right.
“So you’ll be with Gaia then. Do you know Gaia?”
“Of course. We talked like twice in the past,” Nyx replied.
Hmm.
“I also get along well with people, so you can count on me to befriend everyone.”
That’s a lie.
Huh.
Wouldn’t expect anything less from a shut-in.
Anyhow, since Rael didn’t really have a reason to refuse when someone so powerful was offering their help, he turned to the pop-up and pressed “Yes.”
In the next instant, he felt a bit of his mana leave his body and enter Nyx’s body.
She closed her eyes for a brief moment, then reopened them.
<Ding!>
<You have a new companion!>
“Ah! Great!” She reached in for a hug, but Rael swiftly dodged her, causing her to crash into her piano.
Or that was how it seemed at first, but she quickly sat down instead, and after clearing her throat, she began tapping the keys and playing some sort of melody.
I mean, that’s one way of escaping embarrassment, I guess.
Tuning in to the melody, Rael tapped his foot on the ground and went along with her nonsense.
At least the music was pretty decent.
Nonetheless, a few minutes went by in the blink of an eye, until eventually…
“Alright, best be heading out now. I’ll be with you in just a few minutes. I need to get some stuff and change clothes.”
Rael nodded.
“That’s fine. I still need to pick an ultimate perk. It might take me a couple of minutes as well.”
A faint smile appeared on her face as she waved her hand, causing his vision to fade away.
In just a few seconds, he was back in his room inside the Dragon Realm, and as expected, the connection he had formed with Nyx was also still there.
Humming to himself, Rael turned to his side, spotting one pop-up after another.
<Ding!>
<Premium Companion [Ultimate-Unique] has been deleted!>
<Notice: You have made a powerful being your companion which exceeds the limits of the perk, you will—>
Fuck off.
<You wi—>
<You—>
Rael kept closing the tab, until eventually, the system just gave up.
<No debuff has been issued.>
This pop-up, he couldn’t close.
Rael chuckled and finally turned to the big boy perks.
<Ding!>
<Would you like to use [Ultimate Premium Perk Selection]? Yes / No>
<Ding!>
<You have used [Ultimate Premium Perk Selection]>
<Generating Ultimate Premium Perks…>
Rael waited patiently, and soon enough, the perks appeared.
1. Premium Damage Multiplier [Ultimate-Unique]
—All damage you deal is multiplied by a fixed value. The multiplier can be upgraded with currency.
2. Premium Skill Slot Expansion [Ultimate-Unique]
—Remove the level and rank limit on active and passive skills.
3. Premium Drop Amplifier [Ultimate-Unique]
—All drops are multiplied. Quantity and rarity scale with currency spent.
4. Premium Damage Reflection [Ultimate-Unique]
—A percentage of all damage taken is reflected. Percentage can be increased with currency, up to a maximum of 99% of damage reflection.
5. Premium Guaranteed Stun [Ultimate-Unique]
—Every hit stuns.
Woah…
Rael was a little surprised this time around.
Back when he first got Premium Greed, he remembered all the skills and other stuff being super unique and powerful, but this was surprisingly mundane.
Though even if it was mundane, everything was fairly overpowered.
But out of all five of them, Rael knew he could only make one choice.
So he crossed his arms and looked over them one by one.
The first Premium Perk he could immediately eliminate was obviously Premium Drop Amplifier, since he could already amplify his luck because of his Fate Abilities.
That also gave him the idea that he should probably max out Premium Greed after this as well.
Anyhow, the next perk he could eliminate was…
