Chapter 1008: Problems And More Problems
Since Rael was especially bored today, he spent the next couple of hours just watching them work. From time to time, some civilians went up to him to take some pictures. It was a first for him, since by no means was he a celebrity.
Sure, he was their king and all, but… Did he really even act like a king? This whole continent was run by his Constructs. Even Zafira had accepted it at some point down the line, and just gave up the whole Queen gig entirely.
Honestly? He didn’t blame her. He would’ve done the same if he were in her shoes. After all, this kind of automation was something people could only dream of.
To that end, they eventually finished their shifts, and with Evelyn still eyeing him from the side, Gaia approached him, a slightly puzzled look on her face.
“You didn’t say anything in the group. Why?”
Rael shrugged. “Maybe I wanted it to be a surprise? Who knows.”
“So you forgot.” Gaia found the root of the problem immediately, then sighed. “You know, there’s nothing wrong with admitting that you’re wrong.”
Yeah, well… He didn’t really forget. He just kind of didn’t want to say anything. On that note, though, Rael went ahead and led her through Celestara, all the while telling her about what he had done in the last couple of months.
Sure, the majority of it was boring, but finding people like that and dealing with them was interesting, to say the least. Durian, in particular, seemed to have something going for him. Except, even after killing him, Rael didn’t feel like he was completely dead.
Call it a hunch, but there was this thought at the back of his mind that he was still somewhere out there. He really wished there was some way to be certain, but alas, Rael was still an infant when it came to controlling his powers, so naturally, he couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary just yet.
Still…
“Have you thought of baby names?” Gaia asked. “I heard you’re having twins, so it’s better to be prepared. I’m thinking of Tom and Girard if they’re boys, or Chloe and Vanessa if they’re girls. Mix them if they’re separate.”
Rael’s brows twitched. “Chloe isn’t a bad name.”
“What about the others?” Gaia asked expectantly.
The others…
Rael didn’t want to be very rude, but truth be told, Vanessa sounded like a… Well, not a very great name. As for Tom and Girard, he wasn’t even going to consider it. He wasn’t naming them either.
Praying inwardly for all the Toms, Girards, and Vanessas he might’ve offended, Rael went ahead and dodged the topic, until eventually he arrived at one of the restaurants, got the two of them a table, and then began eating while chatting with Gaia.
Although it was nice and all, Rael couldn’t help but remember that he had a date with Lilith. He had cut it short and hadn’t said anything. Speaking of, even while he was out patrolling, she wasn’t very talkative, so Rael knew for a fact that she was hurt.
And thankfully, Gaia seemed to recognize that too, as she felt the energy just wasn’t there. So instead of trying to make it work, she went ahead and stated the obvious:
“Why don’t you call her and ask her to continue from where the two of you left off?”
“Would that be fine with you?” Rael asked, a little startled.
“Obviously. You had a date with her, so it’s only natural that you continue it. As for me, you shouldn’t worry about my feelings. If you want, we can go on a date tomorrow, or the day after. I don’t particularly mind, since, as you might already know, I’m very much immortal,” Gaia replied with a chuckle.
Hearing that, Rael felt like a weight was lifted off his chest. So in the end, Rael chose to just stand up, give Gaia a quick hug, and then walk away. He looked around for Lilith’s presence, and as expected, she was on the pirate ship. Except she was at the very top of the hull, doing nothing but sulking around and tossing kegs into space.
She was definitely not in the mood, but just in case, Rael went ahead and sent her a quick message, getting right to the point:
<Rael Sutekh: Hey, I’m back. Do you want to continue our date from before? I know I cut it short because of some stuff, but I’d like to make it up to you, if you don’t mind.>
And then he just waited. Not only that, he also glanced at the Demon Realm. From the looks of things, William had gotten even weaker than before. By now, he would get killed by the smallest inconvenience.
Rael really wished he could do something to change that, but alas, he respected both of their wishes and didn’t take any measures that would make either of them hate him. Still, no matter how long he waited for a message to come back, it didn’t.
Though he also saw that she was looking at the message, definitely contemplating whether to reply or not. She raised her finger, then shook her head, realizing that it was better to just not reply.
He wasn’t really good at comforting people when they were like this. In fact, Rael was sure that if he were to continue talking, he’d only worsen her mood. So instead, he decided to message someone else entirely.
Melina.
<Rael Sutekh: Sup. Long time no see, again. Has Lilith mentioned anything interesting in the past couple of months? Like, perhaps something she wanted to do, or something she wanted to accomplish? Would really appreciate your help.>
This time, it didn’t take long to get a reply.
<Malinali Liesa: Why are you texting like you’re writing some kind of letter? Also, you want my help to keep tabs on your wife? Are you, perchance, having some kind of attention withdrawal? If so, you’re always welcome to join my crew, Rael.>
