Chapter 3519: Martial Aunt (36)
Chapter 3519: Martial Aunt (36)
Nowadays, the people of Zisha Island were extremely sensitive regarding fire. Whenever they saw anything related to it, they would become quite jittery.
The flames covering the firebird soaring in the sky gradually vanished, and it transformed into a beautiful bird.
It bore the image of a phoenix: the front of a qilin and the rear of a deer, the head of a snake and the tail of a fish, the patterns of a dragon and the shell of a turtle, the throat of a swallow and the beak of a chicken, fully adorned in five colors. This was indeed a phoenix.
The bird flew down to Ye Heyu and nudged his face with its head, letting out low, clear, and moving chirps. Its cry sounded like the music of flutes and pipes, yet possessed the resonance of bells and drums. Countless seabirds flew toward Zisha Island as if coming to pay homage to the newly born phoenix.
The bird gripped Ye Heyu’s clothes with its beak and tossed him onto its back. It then carried him into the sky, soaring through the nine heavens with a multitude of birds following in its wake.
Standing on the bird’s back amidst the whistling wind, Ye Heyu could not help but laugh.
Such a beautiful bird attracted the attention of many. Ning Shu sent a telepathic message to Ye Heyu. “That is enough. It has not fully grown yet. This form is only temporary.”
Ye Heyu patted the phoenix’s back, and it flew down. However, the moment it touched the ground, it reverted to its previous appearance—a fist-sized creature with a few sparse, fluffy feathers, looking even paltrier than a common chick.
Ye Heyu: …
The contrast was so vast it was almost painful to look at.
“She is likely slowly adapting to the Innate True Fire,” Ning Shu said. “Keep raising her well. Who knows when she might fully mutate into a phoenix permanently.”
“I understand, Master,” Ye Heyu said. Noticing Ning Shu’s relaxed demeanor, he asked, “Has something good happened, Master?”
“Is this little thing not a good enough thing?” Ning Shu said with a slight smile.
Ye Heyu looked Ning Shu over and lowered his head. “Master, you seem a bit different.”
Of course she was different. Her biggest problem had been resolved, and she was as light as a feather. Her task was finally complete. Although she hadn’t been able to get her hands on the treasures in the immortal estate, dealing with Yi Youxuan had been the top priority.
“Cultivate well. A phoenix and such things are merely external aids,” Ning Shu said easily. “I plan to head out and travel for a while.”
“Master, will you take me with you?” Ye Heyu asked.
“Why would I take you? I do not even know where I am going. I am just going to wander around without a specific destination.”
Ning Shu simply wanted to travel and see if she could find a world origin. While she was at it, she would pick up a task from the sect.
“Master, I also want to see the world,” Ye Heyu said.
“You have plenty of time for that. There is no need to rush. If you leave, who will look after the bird?” Ning Shu asked.
Ye Heyu could only cup his hands. “Then please be careful, Master. I will wait for your return.”
Ning Shu hummed in agreement, quickly packed her bags, grabbed a sect task, and got out of there.
As she wandered about, Ning Shu told 2333 to keep an eye out for anything related to a world origin.
Occasionally, Ning Shu acted as a physician. If she encountered someone in labor or someone who was ill, she would lend a hand. If she found a child with the innate potential for cultivation, she would keep them by her side for a time.
She occasionally found some precious natural treasures, but what she really needed was a world origin.
She wondered if she would fail to find one in this world as well. It was truly frustrating. She couldn’t even remember how long it had been since she had last found a world origin.
They were becoming harder and harder to find, which was quite disheartening.
Thinking back, she had found four types, but there were still three left. Especially light and dark—where was she supposed to find those?
There weren’t many world origins circulating on the market, either.
“Task complete. Do you wish to leave the task world?” 2333’s voice rang out in Ning Shu’s mind.
Ning Shu nodded. “Let’s leave.”
Since she hadn’t found a world origin here, perhaps the next world would have one. Even if the next one didn’t, there were billions of other planes.
That was the only way she could comfort herself.
Back in the system space, Ning Shu lit some agarwood and began to absorb the pure soul power.
She hoped there would be more soul power this time.
Once she finished, she looked down at her soul. It seemed a bit stronger, though the change wasn’t very obvious. She could only take it slow.
“The chat system is about to explode,” 2333 said. “A lot of people are looking for you.”
Ning Shu leaned back on the sofa and opened the chat system. People who were embodiments of an ordinance were looking for her, as were people from the auction house.
She hadn’t expected Hong Yu to send her a message, lecturing her and telling her to be a proper city lord instead of using her power to do whatever she wanted.
Ning Shu rolled her eyes.
What business is it of yours? Why are you sticking your neck out for the auction house?
There were also messages from the auction house saying they wanted to meet with her.
Ning Shu happily decided to keep them shut down for a while longer. Perhaps she would open the barrier whenever she happened to remember it.
So far, it was only the ‘small fry’ who were acting up. No one of real significance had spoken yet, so Ning Shu was in no hurry.
Since she had already ‘startled the snake,’ she wanted to see if the snake was a five-pacer or a cobra.
Ning Shu browsed the chat system idly and said to 2333, “Just say I am not here and that I have gone on a task.”
She didn’t care about the tax revenue from a single auction house right now. They would just have to fight it out to the end.
Her best skill was fighting people to the bitter end. Without that auction house, perhaps the business of other shops would improve, and her tax revenue might even increase. So, it didn’t matter to her if the auction house existed or not.
In fact, it felt even better having it gone from her sight.
Everyone followed the rules, but they insisted on being ‘special,’ so she gave them special treatment.
They could talk again once the master behind them showed their face.
Wouldn’t it be better if everyone just got along?
Ning Shu looked through the people who had sent her messages. Aside from Hong Yu, there were others advising her not to take things too far, as the auction house had people backing them.
Ning Shu closed the chat system, too lazy to deal with it. Things had already reached this point. If she backed down now, where would her dignity as a city lord go? She couldn’t go around slapping her own face.
Just because someone had a ‘background’ didn’t mean she should be scared into submission. That would be too easy.
If she gave in, every shop would claim to have a background to avoid paying taxes. They’d pay her whatever they felt like, and that would be a goddamn nightmare.
She wouldn’t back down. She’d keep them closed.
Ning Shu’s eyes flickered toward the tea table in front of the sofa. There was a miniature mountain sitting there.
It looked a bit familiar. Wasn’t that Mount Jiugong?
When did it get here?
“Did you bring this back?” Ning Shu asked 2333.
“Mount Jiugong contains nine worlds, after all,” 2333 replied. “It is a decent treasure that can form worlds.”
Ning Shu gave a hum of acknowledgment. “There must be quite a few souls inside.”
As she spoke, she felt a powerful suction erupt from the black hole on the wall, as if it wanted to pull her inside.
Ning Shu maintained an expressionless face. It was acting up again!
“It seems to want to devour Mount Jiugong,” 2333 said.
Without a second thought, Ning Shu threw Mount Jiugong directly into the black hole.
