Zhang Zian knew that Little White refused to take this lying down, similar to what Vladimir would’ve done.
No matter who the leader was, they were willing to compromise and concede defeat when faced with hardships. It was similar to how the stray cats and stray dogs called a truce when threatened by the insect disaster. However, they couldn’t compromise on certain major issues. One step backward and everything could go downhill from there…
As for Little White, he wasn’t able to compromise at the moment.
This wasn’t for money and food, but life and dignity.
The Local Dog jumped out of the car, took a few steps forward, stopped, and stared back at Zhang Zian as if waiting for him to follow.
Zhang Zian started the car. However, he didn’t turn on the high beam and only drove with his low beams turned on and stumbled forward to avoid being noticed.
He didn’t dare to drive fast in case a ditch suddenly appeared on the road. It was possible both the car and the people inside to flip over into the ditch. He refused to even think about if he fell into a manure ditch. He would’ve become greatly embarrassed about it for the rest of his life, provided that he didn’t drown in the manure first.
Fortunately, the dog suddenly sped up shortly after he began driving as if he was going to loved ones.
At the same time, several dogs of different colors emerged from the darkness up front where the car lights could not properly illuminate them. They surrounded the yellow-colored dog and sniffed it all over while barking at the lights.
The dipped low beam light was shining on the ground with some light reflected in the distance. Some bright eyes watching from afar were visible, obviously from stray dogs.
Zhang Zian stepped on the brake. He could’ve turned on the high beam here, but he was worried about angering these dogs. He decided to let Little White handle the situation.
Little White jumped out of the car window and barked loudly at the stray dogs, presumably mobilizing his troops before the war.
Although Zhang Zian was still a singleton and the dogs recognized each other, he still could not understand the dog barks. He could only sit in the driver’s seat and use his mobile phone. From time to time, he looked up at the stray dogs’ reactions.
The stray dogs gradually changed from being highly alert upon seeing Little White to a state of confusion before turning around in excitement. Finally, they barked loudly as if they were venting their anger.
Zhang Zian turned off his phone and knew that the problem had been solved. It reminded him of how Little White and Vladimir were similar to one another in certain ways. Recently, Little White had also been using more lip service to get the dogs to obey, rather than using his position to forcefully make them obey.
Sure enough, Little White turned around and led the way. The stray dogs followed in excitement and together darted in the direction of the waste collection station in an arrow shape.
Zhang Zian could only drive after them. He was worried about the drastic actions of these stray dogs. Although he understood how they felt, it would’ve been a problem if someone died during the whole thing.
He had to go through the tumultuous journey backward once more. Just when he was feeling dizzy, he saw the fire of the waste recycling station again.
What was wrong? If those people had no more dogs to stew, why didn’t they extinguish the fire? Is it that interesting to make a bonfire in the summer?
He stopped the car, turned off the lights, quietly got out of the car, and trailed behind the stray dogs from a distance.
After the dog was captured, those people set up iron crockery on the fire and started to barbecue meat. Nobody knew where the meat came from, and the amount of meat was not enough to fill some of their bellies. This made them very upset over the dog fiasco earlier.
“Damn it! What bad luck! We already had it but now it is all gone!”
“Ah! If only we left someone behind to look after it …”
“Who would’ve thought this dog has friends …”
“Look at this mark… does it look like a dog bite? I don’t see any drool or anything…”
Zhang Zian’s heart slightly trembled. Of all things, he forgot to spit on the section of the rope.
But someone else was able to explain it. “If it wasn’t another dog, then what else could it be? On such a hot day, the saliva would’ve dried up a long time ago!”
“But … What the! Dogs! Get up!”
Little White suddenly emerged from the darkness and surrounded the men with the stray dogs behind him. Each dog grinned and glared at them with the flames of anger burning in their eyes.
The men jumped up from the ground in horror, trembling at these numerous and obviously irritated stray dogs. They backed down, with their possibilities to retreat limited by a fire behind them.
“What’s with these dogs? Are they all crazy?”
“No! Isn’t the dog afraid of fire? Why…”
“What! Only wild dogs are afraid of fire. These are all domestic dogs, they will not be afraid of any damn fire!”
Someone said in fear, “Is this… their revenge… for eating dog meat…?”
These people working in the waste recycling station had only been in school except for a few years, and several of them have dropped out before even graduating from elementary school. They couldn’t do much other than recycling waste. Otherwise, who would’ve wanted to do dirty and tiring work only to earn a few bucks?
Thus, they believe in the supernatural. Seeing so many angry stray dogs, they couldn’t help but think it was vengeance for the dead dog they ate the other day?
Little White slowly stepped out of the darkness and showed them its fangs.
“Wait! I think I’ve seen this dog before!”
One of them pointed at Little White. He was likely drunk from having too much beer. He said whilst twirling his hair, “Is that the dog that we ate the other day? Wasn’t that dog white, too?!”
“Yeah! You’re right!”
“What should we do? Should we… call the police?”
“What would be the point? The police would get here in half an hour!”
“Then what do we do?”
They all drank a lot and were even slurring their words a little. To them, these stray dogs looked like a group of dancing devils.
Without knowing who took the lead, one person suddenly knelt and banged his head towards Little White.
“Grandpa dog! Please spare me! I have a family to feed. I promise to never eat dog meat again!”
With one of them taking the lead, everyone else knelt like dominos. Fully intoxicated, they mumbled off about Grandpa dogs, ancestor dogs, and whatnot. If their real grandpas heard what they said, it was unclear if they would’ve been angry. If so, they just might’ve been so furious as to jump out of their coffins.
Little White’s work was done, and he hurried moved forward to pressure them further.
One person was so scared he tried to move back and hide but forgot that the fire was behind them. The clothes they wore were thin in summer. The red charcoal and hot iron made them scream and kicked the fire all over the place. The hot ashes were spread all over, with fireballs and hot clouds of dust flying everywhere. The scene quickly became chaotic
Little White growled again and signaled for the other dogs to retreat. They disappeared quietly into the night.
Zhang Zian heaved a sigh of relief and put down his mobile phone. His phone the whole scene with these pathetic people. If they dared to revert to their old ways, perhaps he could post this video on the Internet. If that happened, they would probably be so ashamed that they would never want to see the world again.
