Chapter 2020: Chapter 2022: Jiang Nuan vs. Fu Yi 23
“Director Fu, the Director’s wife and the Old Madam have returned together.” The secretary following Fu Yi swiftly rushed over to report.
“So soon?” Fu Yi, dressed in home clothes and a scarf, holding a kitchen knife, looked like a good man around the house. Steam billowed from a pot on the stove, and the kitchen was filled with the aroma of food.
The secretary sniffed greedily, his stomach growling, “The Old Madam’s car is parked outside.”
Fu Yi lowered his eyelashes, his slender hand stir-frying the vegetables in the pan, and instructed him, “Serve the prepared dishes first, I will bring out the rest myself.”
The secretary nodded eagerly, “Okay.”
In no time, five dishes and a soup were served out.
The squirrel fish in the pan was fried golden in hot oil, the fish meat turning white and tender as jade. Fu Yi calmly sprinkled a section of scallion over the fish, plated it, and even added two small tomatoes for decoration.
After five years, Jiang Nuan returned to this beautiful century-old villa, feeling a bit out of place.
“Madam! You’re back!”
As soon as she stepped in, the servant who had previously taken care of her walked swiftly toward her, eyes brimming with tears.
“Wang, Nanny Wang?”
The excited servant nodded repeatedly, “It’s me.”
“Madam, you haven’t returned for five years, I thought…”
The Old Madam Fu coughed unhappily, “Ahem, ahem.”
She promptly closed her mouth, stepped aside, and nervously clasped her hands, “Old, Old Madam.”
Fearing she might say something to remind Jiang Nuan of unhappy memories, the Old Madam Fu quickly instructed, “Go see if Ya Shu has returned. If not, go look for it outside. It’s cold recently, don’t let it play too wildly.”
The servant gave Jiang Nuan a reluctant glance, not daring to disobey the orders, “Yes, Old Madam.”
She walked away, looking back every few steps, full of reluctance.
The Old Madam Fu took Jiang Nuan’s hand and led her inside, “Come, Nuannuan, let’s go in first. What would you like to drink? Grandma will make it for you.”
Jiang Nuan was led by her enthusiastic grip into the living room, where she was seated on the sofa, “Grandma, I can just have plain water.”
“Plain water?” The Old Madam Fu asked curiously, “Didn’t you used to love sweet fruit juice?”
“Quit it.”
She used to like sweet things because she believed marriage would be just as sweet. After a harsh reality check, she had given up her fondness for sweets, just as she forced herself to quit depending on a certain someone.
Jiang Nuan had just sat on the sofa for a moment when she saw someone coming out of the kitchen.
Fu Yi, wearing a coffee-colored turtleneck sweater, the thick knit creating a simple pattern, fit snugly around his waist and abdomen, naturally drawing one’s gaze to his waist…
He was holding a plate, and Jiang Nuan recognized her favorite squirrel fish at a glance.
Her expression grew complicated.
The sofa seemingly grew spikes underneath her, making her uncomfortable.
Annoyed.
She felt particularly annoyed, instinctively wanting to leave, but the Old Madam Fu had already walked over with a glass cup in hand, “Nuannuan, here, your warm water.”
“Oh, thank you, Grandma.” She felt as if a gaze was fixed on her, leaving her unsure where to put her hands and feet as she accepted the water.
The Old Madam Fu saw her bow her head and gulp down the water, then turned and caught her grandson staring intently this way, couldn’t help but cough once, glared, then softly said, “Come, Nuannuan, drink slowly, I’ll pour more for you if you need it.”
