Chapter 565 - The Cunning Lich

Chapter 565: The Cunning Lich

It was not only Croc God and his gang, even Majestic Hero and Black God too saw Qin Ruo disappearing in the hordes of Skeleton Dragons and Vampires. Both of them took a step forward after seeing their friend disappearing into the hail dust.

Yet, they did not dash forward to their friend’s aid—Qin Ruo was in their party and the system did not indicate that he was dead.

After that, they saw a familiar terrifying silhouette emerging from the Skeleton Dragons and Vampires—a Lich! Watching the Lich and its horde chasing after Croc God, Majestic Hero and Black God looked disconcertingly at one another.

It was very curious indeed…

This was a Tier 6 Boss—the Lich! How did these lowly Skeleton Dragons and Vampires buff up the courage to fly in front of their leader? Was this a different kind of Lich? Or perhaps… a Mutated Lich?

And more importantly, Qin Ruo had already speared into the flying specter horde earlier—right into the attack range of the Lich. Yet, the Lich pursued the Berserker League rather than going after Qin Ruo. What must be going on?

A short moment later, the Lich hurled a Tier 5 AoE Magic Attack at its prey… without entering their attack range… this Lich was cunningly clever.

Even though they were from the Angel Faction, Majestic Hero and the gang could not help but feel anxious for the ten Demon Faction Champions when they fell to the ground after having their Demonic Wings deactivated by the Tier 5 AoE Magic Attack.

These poor souls…

All twenty-six Angel Faction players mourned silently for Croc God and his teammates… They had allowed the Lich to get too close with countless other flying specters tailing it… there were also swarms of Skeletons and Cerberus down on the ground. These ten Demon Faction players were surely goners.

Still… there was still an important question that lingered on their minds…

‘Where the heck is Qin Ruo now?!’

***

“Fuck!” After being forced to land by the Lich’s Tier 5 AoE Magic Attack, Croc God and his gang were sent to a frantic panic it was as though millions of ants crawled into their pants.

They did not anticipate that treacherous Qin Ruo would storm into an Undead Horde that concealed a Lich.

They also did not anticipate the Lich to be this clever, as it took away their flying ability before they could spread out to flee in different directions. They were up hundreds of meters in the sky… the damage from the fall would have immediately killed a few weaker members in the team… and that was not all! There were swarms after swarms of high-tier specters down on the ground waiting to take a nib at their flesh…

“Ahhhhh!!!”

Screeching in horror, two unlucky warriors disappeared into the sea of specters right after they landed…

Another warrior was lucky enough to summon his Griffon in time to lift him to the sky, thereby saving his life. As for the Elementalists, they appeared to have more experience in this matter. Right after their wings were clipped, two Aeromancers immediately flung out their Magic Scrolls and glided away… The other Elementalists, though, got away by either using their pets or altering the surrounding space to cushion their fall.

The most experienced one would be the Croc God himself… as he was falling from the sky, he suddenly did a backflip and landed on a dark violet Pterosaur.

However, the pursuing Skeleton Dragons did not care one bit for the fact that Pterosaurs were a distance cousin to its species. Flapping their massive skeletal wings, they fiercely chased after Croc God and the rest of the survivors.

Of course, Croc God and his peers were more concerned of the Lich…

“If you are pursued by the Lich, lure the dang thing away and if you can, bring it to Majestic Hero! Quick!”

Croc God frantically ordered his men to get moving as his Pterosaur hastened its airspeed. Even though the specters that were chasing after them in the sky were a formidable bunch, the one that threatened them the most was still the Lich. If they could get rid of this monstrosity, they might stand a chance to get away in one piece.

A mere three seconds had passed since the order was given when the Griffon-riding Warrior suddenly yelled, “Clan Leader! Look out!”

“Behind you! The Lich is behind you!!” The two Aeromancers also screeched in horror as they saw the Lichholding two dark crimson crystal balls inching closer to Croc God from behind.

Even though his Elemental Perception had not fully recovered, Croc God could still feel a chilling presence behind him brimming with murderous intent. As he heard his underlings warnings, Croc God felt an even greater dread—the Lich had now locked on him! Him! What a streak of rotten luck he had today!!

Clenching his teeth, Croc God turned his head around as he was charging up Mana in his hands. He hoped to cast a few attacks at the Lich and buy everyone some time to flee. Suddenly, three shadowy Skulls swooshed right towards his back! Strange, as he had not even entered the Lich’s attack range yet.

Well, to be exact… the Lich was the one who shot out the shadowy Skulls mere seconds before Croc God was in range!

Its perfect timing and extraordinary intelligence were impeccable!

Croc God took in a deep breath as a chill struckran down his spine.

The hell’s going on? What kind of monster in the game had this kind of intelligence? Even if it were to be experienced players, it was an extremely difficult feat to perform!

Bang! Bang! Baang!

The three Skulls knocked right into the Pterosaurs beneath him! Then, a surge of freezing air was felt as a layer of dark ice started to form on his pet’s body. Seconds later, the Level 51 Violet Pterosaurs was frozen solid and fell from the sky…

Swirling down to the ground, Croc God was tossed off the back of his Pterosaur.

It was so unthinkable! Why had the system indicated that his Violet Pterosaurs were suffering Frozen damage instead of the usual Corrosion and Confusion damage…

Before he had any time to ponder on this, the three skulls suddenly burst into black freezing flames! In an instant, the flames engulfed the Pterosaurs and Croc God…

“Shit!”

It’s a chain Magic Attack!

In a split second, Croc God’s Elemental Perception was finally restored! As one of the skulls burst again, his face turned pale. His Pterosaurs, having suffered over 4000 HP damage, only had a handful of HP left. Yet, before he was able to cast a Shadow Wall on his pet to help it tank another attack, the skull slew his Pterosaurs in mere seconds, at the same time shattering his magic shield too!

“Fuck!”

Croc God was speechless as he saw his shredded Shield and damaged Barrier. This thing wasn’t a Lich. It was a motherfucking spawn of the devil himself!

“Shadow Wall!”

Barking out in anger, a shadowy magic wall appeared behind him. Even though he lost his pet in the fight, Croc God had not lost his cool yet. He must stall the Lich for only a few seconds longer to allow his brethren to flee. He must, at the very least make sure that some of his teammates survive this disaster.

Yet… the Lich hurled out another series of attacks again—this time firing three black foul Corrosive Bombs. Croc God could do nothing but watch in horror as the three Corrosive Bombs eerily curved around his Shadow Wall… and struck his Barrier!

Croc God’s body, like a crash test dummy was flung three times in the air as the Bombs landed on him. Then, he fell to the ground lifelessly… along with a chrome tier cloak beside him.

“It’s the Clan Leader’s equipment!”

“Retrieve it! Quickly!”

The Griffon-riding warrior was the one who saw the chromatic equipment. Knowing how priceless the thing was, he immediately dove toward it while barking his brethren to do the same.

Suddenly, the Lich moved again, his time towards the Pyromancer that was standing near the drop point of the chromed cloak. The poor Pyromancer was oblivious to whatever that was going on in the sky, but as soon as he utilized a Mana Core to cushion himself from the fall, he was immediately surrounded by continuous waves of specters.

After hearing the warrior’s yelling, the Pyromancer was preparing his Elemental Perception to aid his friend in retrieving their Clan Leader’s equipment. The moment he locked onto the equipment, he saw the Lich diving towards him from the sky…!

In three strikes, the Pyromancer was slain and another piece of equipment dropped too.

The other members of the Berserker League were speechless as they saw this. If he was killed by normal low tier specters, at least his equipment would not drop. However, if killed by a Lich, it was a guarantee that one of his equipment had to be forfeited.

Losing a piece of equipment while trying to save another.

What a joke!

Having no more energy to deal with Majestic Hero’s gang, who was their original target, the Champions got busy trying to fend off the massive Undead horde that had surrounded them from all corners.

Every member spread out in different directions and as they were trying to reach one another, the Lich would fling a series of attacks at them giving them no choice but to back away. This essentially resulted in them not being able to regroup and cover for one another. Only the Griffon-riding warrior was able to escape the horde, by flying high in the sky and cleverly avoiding the horde’s attack range.

As he retreated away, the Lich seemed to have forfeited pursuing him. Instead, it started to lead its Undead horde towards his other forty fellow Berserker League members who were standing by near the Undead gathering ground earlier.

The warrior suddenly found himself falling to the ground lifelessly as he was about to fly forward to warn his friends—his Griffon had inadvertently flown towards Majestic Hero’s location. Widening his lifeless eyes, the warrior bitterly stared bitterly, dying, as the Lich’s horde inched towards his comrades.
