Chapter 1811 - 1811 The Key
1811 The Key
The chief glanced at the file in Yang Yi’s hand and recalled the matter of the report, so he was completely unsuspecting. He simply raised his hand. “Okay then. Just leave it on my desk. I have a guest with me, so you can leave.”
The chief stopped looking at Yang Yi. Instead, he invited the middle-aged man beside him to take a seat.
As the middle-aged man sat down, his eyes paused on Yang Yi for a couple of seconds.
Yang Yi pretended not to notice. He simply placed the report on the table and left the office.
The sound of the door closing gently could be heard.
“Who’s the guy?” asked Shangguan Hou curiously.
The chief poured Shangguan Hou a glass of water. “That was Zhu from the technical department. He joined the base just slightly over a year ago, but he’s good.”
Shangguan Hou thanked the chief for the tea. “No wonder he looks unfamiliar.”
The chief smiled and explained. “You hardly drop by the technical department, so it’s only natural you find him unfamiliar.”
“That’s true.” Shangguan Hou nodded and did not continue with the subject. He simply reminded the chief. “In the future, you should pay more attention to access and security to prevent unauthorized personnel from sneaking in.”
A serious look emerged on the chief’s face. “Did something happen?”
“Nothing. I just suddenly remembered the bombing incident at the National Academy of Medicine last year,” said Shangguan Hou mildly. “It’s better to be safe than sorry, right?”
“Okay then. I will take note of it.” The chief felt Shangguan Hou would not have brought this up for no reason. Since Shangguan Hou had mentioned it, he must know what he was talking about.
Shangguan Hou pursed his lips briefly and changed the subject.
30 minutes later, Shangguan Hou left the technical department chief’s office. When he walked past the cubicles outside, he did not see Zhu sitting there.
Shangguan Hou glanced at the cubicles briefly and walked off. As he took the lift to the ground floor, he pondered to himself. After coming out of the lift, he went back to his laboratory.
Before long, Shangguan Hou walked out of the laboratory with his hands in his coat pockets.
His large coat pockets bulged more than usual and there was something inside.
When he stepped out of the laboratory, someone came to find him.
“Mr. Shangguan, the higher-ups want you in the central region.”
The man nodded reverently. “That’s right. They want to see you right away”
“What’s this about?” Shangguan Hou’s hands remained in his pockets.
“I don’t know either. I think you’re needed for a meeting.”
Shangguan Hou stopped probing. “Got it. I’ll go over now.”
Before long, he reached the central region.
When Shangguan Hou entered the conference room, the meeting had already started and the lights in the room were off. In front of him was a multidimensional projector showing a virtual image of space.
The multidimensional image was very realistic. Just standing there, it felt as though they were in space.
Shangguan Hou took a glance at it and promptly knew the subject of the meeting.
He quietly walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down.
King, leader of Mirage Base, sat on the main seat. He looked like he was around 40 years old. He had dark eyes and a cool imposing aura.
He seemed just like his name. He was like a king looking down at his citizens loftily. The image of the starry galaxy came from behind making him look surreal.
King glanced at Shangguan Hou as he took a seat. He tapped the table gently and said mildly, “You mentioned a key previously. Do you know where it is yet?”
