As the mountain gates swung open, the two of them ascended from below. Upon reaching the summit and seeing Yun Qi standing beside the Azure Emperor, Xiao Junyan strode forward, his concern evident as he asked, "Little Qi, how are you? Has your health improved?"
Unlike Xiao Junyan, the Great Emperor Xiao Tian first greeted the Azure Emperor before discreetly appraising the young girl. As his divine sense swept over her body, revealing her shattered meridians and fractured dantian, his gaze flickered.
It seemed this girl was truly ruined. What a pity.
"Yun Qi," the Great Emperor Xiao Tian called out.
"Yun Qi greets the Emperor," she replied, stepping forward to bow, her voice clear and crisp.
At that moment, Xiao Junyan also bowed to the Azure Emperor, his voice tinged with guilt. "I failed to protect her properly, allowing her to suffer such severe injuries."
The Azure Emperor shot him a cold glance. "That girl Yun Qi has always been willful. It’s only fitting she taste the bitter consequences. Only then will she learn not everything can be shielded for others."
Hearing this, Xiao Junyan pressed his lips together, saying nothing.
The Great Emperor Xiao Tian, seeing this, spoke up, "Azure Emperor, I know this time Yun took the punishment for Junyan. That’s why, as soon as Junyan’s injuries stabilized, I brought him here to see to Yun."
He then produced a medicinal pill and handed it to Yun Qi, saying, "Little Yun, this is a healing pill gifted by the Phoenix Empress years ago—a supreme treasure. Though it cannot mend your severed tendons or ruptured dantian, it will at least treat your internal injuries. Take it. I shall seek out better medicinal pills for you in the future."
Seeing the medicinal pills offered, Yue’er froze, blinking in confusion.
He was giving her medicinal pills sent by her Mother? Should she accept them? Or refuse?
Unconsciously, she looked to her master.
"Since they’re from Great Emperor Xiao Tian to heal you, you should accept them," Azure Emperor said indifferently.
"Oh." She responded, took the pills, and bowed to him. "Thank you, Great Emperor."
"Little Qi, I need to speak with you," Xiao Junyan said, his gaze fixed on her.
Seeing this, Yue’er thought for a moment before saying to her master, "Master, I’ll take Big Brother Xiao for a walk."
The Azure Emperor shot Xiao Junyan a glance before instructing Yun Qi, "Go ahead! But don’t linger too long. Your body isn’t fully recovered yet; you must return to rest."
"Understood." Yue’er acknowledged, bowing to both of them before departing with Xiao Junyan to explore elsewhere.
Yue’er led him to her cave abode and explained, "Big Brother Xiao, this is my cave abode. Those two over there belong to my two Senior Brothers, but they’re not on the mountain right now."
Instead of entering the caves, they sat down at a table outside.
"Little Qi, how are your injuries? Did the Azure Emperor find a healer to treat you?" Xiao Junyan inquired, his heart twinging at the sight of her noticeably thinner frame.
"Master says with gradual recuperation, my body will heal," she replied with a bright smile. In truth, these were Mother’s words. Mother had explained that because her injuries were severe, treatment must proceed step by step: first healing the critically damaged internal organs, then repairing the shattered meridians, and finally addressing the cracked dantian.
But Mother had forbidden her from telling anyone else—not even Big Brother Xiao.
Seeing the smile on her face, Xiao Junyan sensed it was forced. When they had met earlier, he had detected not a trace of spirit energy about her. She seemed as ordinary as any mortal, even weaker than most.
