Chapter 5225: Illusion

She wondered if it wasn’t a dream after all, but something that had truly happened. But who could that person be? Not Xiao Junyan—could it be...
For a moment, she froze. The person she thought of was her master. Because whenever she faced danger, it was always her master who appeared to protect her. Besides her, who else would come to her side at such a time?
"Little Qi, freshly grilled." Xiao Junyan cut a piece of roasted meat for her.
"Oh, thank you." She responded, pulling her thoughts back, accepting the leaf-wrapped meat and eating it.
"Something’s moving!" Shen Shiqi, mid-bite, sprang to his feet, sword in hand, staring into the pitch-black night.
Almost the instant he stood, Xiao Junyan and Yue’er also rose swiftly. They scanned the darkness, listening to the rustling sounds at their ears, alertness sharpening.
"It’s the Yin Wind."
Xiao Junyan said, observing the leaves swaying in the sudden night breeze, listening to their rustling sounds, and catching glimpses of the shadowy spirits.
Shen Shiqi saw a ring of shadowy spirits gathered in the darkness. They dared not approach, hovering about ten meters away, staring intently at the three of them.
"I have a way to deal with them," Yue’er said, drawing her whip. With a swift flick of her wrist, the whip whistled through the air, lashing out at the surrounding spirits.
"Crack!"
"Crack! Crack! Crack!"
After several swift lashes, the whip’s aura radiated out, leaving marks on the surrounding trees. The ghostly spirits that had been encircling them suddenly scattered with a whoosh, vanishing swiftly.
Shen Shiqi stared at the whip in her hand and whistled in admiration. "Who knew the Divine Whip was this powerful!"
Yue’er chuckled. "Well, that’s why it’s called the Divine Whip!"
As the entities drifted away, the oppressive aura in the area eased somewhat. The three sat down to eat, continuing until midnight. Yue’er rested while Xiao Junyan and Shen Shiqi took turns keeping watch.
As dawn approached, faint cries for help echoed from the forest.
"Help... Help me..."
"Sounds like someone’s there," Shen Shiqi remarked. "I’ll go check."
Xiao Junyan and Yue’er snapped awake. Exchanging a glance, they followed Shen Shiqi toward the source of the cries.
After walking about a hundred meters, they saw a massive green plant by a black muddy pool, seemingly clutching a person. The victim’s upper body was already in its jaws, only the legs still struggling. The cries for help were coming from inside that green plant.
"It’s someone from my Shen family!" Shen Shiqi’s expression darkened as he rushed forward, slashing at the plant with his sword.
"No! Come back!" Xiao Junyan shouted suddenly, lunging forward to grab him.
Shen Shiqi paused at his words, glancing back. At that very moment, Yue’er bellowed, "It’s a trap! Retreat!"
In that instant, the man-biting greenery shot out two tendrils like whips, lashing toward Shen Shiqi. The person who had been trapped inside vanished without a trace, leaving not even a shadow behind.
Shen Shiqi froze for a second. He twisted his sword in his hand, severing the two tendrils. But just then, a giant leaf swept toward him, carrying a wind blade. He dodged swiftly, but his foot caught on something, sending him tumbling backward.
