Seeing this, Yue’er’s eyes darted about. She swiftly gathered the items from the table, grabbed the food box, and left. Outside, she handed the box to a celestial maiden to return to the kitchen, then headed toward the Rainbow Bridge.
Across the Immortal Island, the Fire Phoenix idled its time soaring through the skies. Cloud Devouring and Old White also patrolled the island’s perimeters. Having received instructions from Feng Jiu, they understood the need to keep the identities of the three young masters confidential. Thus, upon spotting them, they refrained from approaching.
Yue’er stepped onto the gentle breeze, spread her arms, and flew toward the Rainbow Bridge. Spotting Xiao Junyan standing upon it, she smiled, waved, and called out, “Big Brother Xiao!”
Xiao Junyan turned slightly to watch her land on the bridge before asking, “Finished your errands?”
“Yes. I brought food for Master. After he finished eating, I came straight here.” Perhaps it was the words of her Big Brother and her Father, or the conversation with Mother last night, but she felt strangely awkward facing him now.
“Didn’t you used to call me Brother Junyan? Why are you calling me Big Brother now?” Xiao Junyan asked, his gaze fixed on her.
“Because my First Senior Brother and Second Senior Brother said there should be a distinction between men and women, and we shouldn’t be too familiar with each other.” She betrayed her two brothers without a second thought.
As she spoke, she glanced at him again, looking as if she had something to say but hesitated.
“Speak your mind. Hesitating like this isn’t like you,” Xiao Junyan remarked.
“Big Brother Xiao, I heard that all the young people brought by the Great Emperor this time are here to seek marriage with the Phoenix Empress’s daughter. Are you also hoping to marry the Phoenix Empress’s daughter?” she asked curiously.
More than what they said, she wanted to know if this big brother she’d known since childhood harbored similar thoughts.
At her words, Xiao Junyan’s expression darkened. “I have no such intentions.”
