Chapter 430: Gamble
Chapter 430: Gamble
Translator: Radiant Translations Editor: Radiant Translations
It took no more than a moment before the first human figure covered in blood was expelled from the enormous scroll. He was able to regain consciousness while falling from mid-air. At first, his terror was on full display on his expression, but he then realized that everyone was staring at him and went back to his original position with an awkward look. His shame for being defeated too quickly was beyond description.
Sou, sou, sou…
As more time passed, there were many experts falling from the enormous scroll spanning a few hundred million kilometers. They all showed clearly visible heavy injuries as they were expelled. As more and more of them left, everyone could clearly see their true forms. For instance, some were beasts with bodies more than hundreds of kilometers in length, and even several unique organisms had made an appearance. They were only willing to show their true forms because several of their moves could unleash stronger effects that way.
Blood sprayed everywhere in mid-air—fresh red blood, violet or green blood…regardless of color, it was certain that blood flowed in rivers. Some of the expelled participants had even gotten their bodies torn apart and could only put themselves back together after leaving the scroll.
They were, after all, Deities! As long as their True Deity Heart wasn’t extinguished, they could persevere!
"How was it? What’s going on inside there?"
"What happened to you within the scroll world?" A number of Deity experts went over to question the ones who were already expelled.
One of them had cleared off the blood from his body, but he couldn’t dispel the pale expression on his face. His mood had yet to recover, which was evident from his frown. He was not particularly inclined to speak, "You will all understand once it’s your turn to enter."
Xue Ying looked all over the place, seeing how those who survived were unwilling to explain much. It was only normal, since everyone there was a competitor.
The rate of people being expelled into the sky slowly decreased, and now it was only occasionally that somebody would be sent out!
Hua. Finally, a teenager towering in both height and width, with silver hair adorning his head, left the scroll world. He immediately stopped his body from plummeting in mid-air, and his expression betrayed his dissatisfaction.
"That is all for the first batch of Deities!" the emissary stated in a cold voice, his voice reverberating all around the area.
At the sound of those words, the silver-haired teenager from before finally revealed a grin. He had clearly been the last one to be expelled.
"A reminder for everyone: you will be ranked according to your performance in regards to slaughtering the enemy and not how long you can survive within the scroll world! The amount of time you can survive will have no effect on the final rank. For instance, the last one to have come out from this first batch…is actually ranked the 200th," the emissary explained, his voice as cold as ever. "It is time for the next batch!"
That revelation left the silver-haired teenager momentarily stunned, his face turned bright red. Fury pervaded his heart, yet he would never dare vent his anger against the emissary himself. He just descended without uttering a word of complaint.
Sou sou sou…
The Bloodshed God Palace emissary’s mighty power once again enveloped a thousand Deity experts and sent them flying up into the sky uncontrollably. They were thrown inside the enormous scroll like stones into a lake.
From this first batch of Deities, did only 395 survive? He had kept track of the Deities as they came out, so he could easily calculate their number. What of the remaining 605 Deity experts? Did they really all die inside there?
To think that this ranking trial is nothing more than the first stage of the Prefecture Capital Battle… He inwardly shook his head. Such a casualty rate was nothing short of exaggerated.
"Ah!"
A mournful sound reverberated throughout the sky as fresh blood sprayed out in mid-air. Its source was a mutilated body which had just been expelled. Once it arrived in mid-air, the body condensed back into its original form—a gray-robed teenager small in stature and form. He sent awkward glances all around as he rushed back to his original position.
Once the second batch entered, a large number of people were expelled one after another, many of them covered in gruesome injuries.
Hong~ An enormous, twin-headed monster appeared in mid-air before condensing back into his humanoid shape in a hurry.
The majority of those who were expelled were riddled with injuries; most people were unwilling to give up until the very last moment. It was only natural for anyone who could pass the Starfield Selections to hold some amount of pride.
Batch after batch…
In the blink of an eye, ten Deity batches had already went inside, yet not one of the sixteen Deities from the Mountain Wu Starfield were chosen so far.
"The tenth batch is now through. In other words, ten thousand Deity experts have already gone through the battles." From his vantage point high above, the emissary from the Bloodshed God Palace swept his gaze across everyone below, a trace of coldness ever present in his eyes. "What hubris! So many of the Deities who went inside overestimated themselves. In spite of sensing danger and accumulating injuries, they still went crazy trying to kill more enemies. Once the enemy’s combat power surpasses what you can withstand, you might just die without even getting the chance to admit defeat! In any case, it is time for the next batch."
Hua.
The eleventh batch of Deities was enveloped and sent flying high into the sky.
"Mn?" Xue Ying realized that, this time around, someone from Mountain Wu Star Field was finally pulled in. Even so, only seven of them were take into the scroll, the red-haired man with heavy killing intent being one of them.
The current batch was slowly being thinned out as well.
Among those recently expelled was the red-haired man. He was heavily injured, but he quickly recovered after being thrown out in mid-air.
After getting back to the ground, he looked back into the sky with an ice-cold expression. He was staring intently at enormous scroll, watching the other experts as they were expelled.
Finally—
It was time for the twelfth batch of Deities to enter. The emissary’s gaze swept down in the direction of the participants from the Mountain Wu Star Field. As host for the current Prefecture Capital Battle, he naturally received a huge amount of intelligence and was made aware of certain experts from the prefecture who were which quite dazzling. Other than those, there were also a few whose backgrounds were very impressive. His decision to separate them into a separate batch, so that he could observe them properly, was nothing strange.
Hu.
An unseen power appeared to envelop them.
"Is it my turn?" Xue Ying was able to sense an unseen power sweep him up into the sky and then sendhim flying toward the enormous scroll. The enormous scroll was getting closer and closer before his eyes.
Pu.
Just like with the Deity experts from before, this time’s batch seemingly clashed against the scroll. Moments before making contact, Xue Ying could tell that this batch actually contained a person that was familiar to him, who would also be entering the scroll. That was, of course, His Highness Seventh Mei Yu.
******
"Brother Mo Xue, your daughter has entered." The Calm Sea Prefecture Master gazed in the direction of the scroll, his vision easily bypassing the obstruction of the scroll world. He was able to directly look into the inner world and see the thousand experts within. Naturally, he had discovered Seventh Mei Yu amongst them.
"Brother Dragon, how about we watch how this little daughter of mine fares?" Monarch Mo Xue caressed his snowy-white beard with an expression of delight plastered on his face. Just like the others, he could easily send his vision through the interference and watch the events happening within without any issue.
"This current batch is quite interesting." The yellow-robed woman, the Venomous Ying World Deity, giggled charmingly. "Not only do we have the daughter of Monarch Mo Xue in there, but there’s also the inner disciple of the Primal Ivory powerful existence, Zang Xiao, as well as that Dong Bo that Brother White Sand regards highly upon. Everyone, how about we have a gamble in regards to who will be the strongest participant from this batch?"
"That’ll be Dong Bo!" The White Sand City Lord touched his pointed beard as he swept his gaze over his surroundings.
"It will likely be Her Highness, Seventh Mei Yu." Marshal Qin, the woman in silver armor, casually mentioned without letting go of her wine glass.
"I’ll place my bet on the one called Zang Xiao then. He brought himself up from a tiny being before eventually being accepted as an inner disciple under a powerful existence. I don’t think his comprehension ability would be low," the handsome Mo Yun stepped in.
The yellow-robed woman continued spurring the others on, "Big Brother Rong Hai, what about you?"
King Rong Hai laughed out loud. "I think Brother Mo Yun’s judgement is sound. I’ll also choose Zang Xiao. Little Sister Venomous Ying, you also have yet to tell us your choice!"
"We’re both women, so it’s only natural that I’d choose Her Highness, Mei Yu," the Venomous Ying World Deity replied.
"I’ll also join in on this gamble, and I’ll be betting on my daughter." Monarch Mo Xue laughed as he spoke up from above. "Should I lose, each and every one of you will receive a flask of Bamboo Fiery Snow Serum."
"If that is the case, I’ll join in by betting on Zang Xiao. I have some info on the combat strength of this chap, and he seems to be quite good," the Calm Sea Prefecture Master said. "If I am to lose, the winners will each receive a Calm Sea Spirit Pearl from me."
"Bamboo Fiery Snow Serum…that’s Monarch Mo Xue’s specialty! And even a Calm Sea Spirit Pearl has been added to the pot. Even as host, I’m afraid this junior cannot hold back any longer. I shall be placing my bet on Zang Xiao." The emissary from the Bloodshed God Palace laughed.
The yellow-robed woman, the Venomous Ying World Deity, stepped in to give the final announcement, "A total of eight bets, four of them on Zang Xiao, three on Her Highness, Seventh Mei Yu; ai…brother White Sand, you’re actually the only one who chose that little brother of yours, Dong Bo."
The White Sand City Lord glared back. "The Prefecture Master and the Monarch have both brought out their stakes, but what of you all? Hurry up and take everything out, you all!"
In spite of his rampant behaviour as he shouted out, the White Sand City Lord was wracked by nerves in his heart. Brother Dong Bo, you must not fail me.
He had long since began bragging about how highly he regarded Xue Ying, so even if he was to truly gamble, he would still have had to stand beside him, even if just for the sake of his reputation!
However, in his inner heart… the White Sand City Lord was confident that Xue Ying would get into the top hundred, but he couldn’t hold that same confidence when it came to comparing him with the likes of Zang Xiao or Her Highness, Seventh Mei Yu. The ugly truth was that Zang Xiao cultivated according to the guiding of a powerful existence, while Seventh Mei Yu was taught by her father. Monarch Mo Xue was, indeed, slightly weaker than powerful existences in terms of his comprehension of the realm, but it was only normal that he would put in all of his effort for the sake of his daughter.
In any case, the White Sand City Lord did not have much confidence, yet he had to carry on with this gamble, all for the sake of his reputation!
He looked up toward the sky, since he, like all of the other spectators located on the high platform, could look into the scroll world. They could do so since the emissary did not block them from looking inside. They could see the diverse locations within the wide world, one of them showing Xue Ying standing on a beach.
