Chapter 603
Chen Anqi and Sun Feiyan had just come home to the latter’s apartment and finished their dinner. Since the downfall of the Sun Corporation, Sun Feiyan was focusing on building her own career by being a corporate lawyer.
As Sun Feiyan stepped out of her bedroom still in her work clothes to talk to her assistant, she heard the doorbell rang.
“Who could be visiting me at this time?” She muttered to herself, giving a confused look at Chen Anqi who also appeared from the kitchen when she heard the doorbell.
Sun Feiyan stepped in front of her door and peered through the peephole. Seeing no one was there, she figured that the person must have made a mistake on ringing on her door when it was supposed to be for her neighbor. It was the first time such a thing happened anyway.
Still, she opened her door to see who it was which she would realize a big mistake earlier as two men were standing just out of the range of the peephole. Upon seeing the door open, they leaped towards her.
Sun Feiyan screamed and tried to close her door. She pushed it with all her might as she struggled not to be dragged by an arm that had managed to slip through the gap on her door.
Chen Anqi heard her from the living room and rushed to check what had happened. Her eyes went wide before she dove and helped her miss stop the men from invading the apartment.
Alas, two fragile women were no match against two muscled, grown men. The door burst open, which forced the two women to sprawl on the floor.
Chen Anqi hissed in pain while Sun Feiyan hurriedly sat up and helped her assistant get to her feet.
“Anqi? Are you okay?”
One of the men reached for Sun Feiyan while the other took Chen Anqi, but neither of these women was planning to be intimidated by these men.
Sun Feiyan stepped back. She took her keys which she’d left at the side table and hid it inside her fist before punching the man’s face with as much as strength she could muster.
The man wailed in pain as one of the keys Sun Feiyan slid between her fingers managed to leave a deep laceration on his face.
“Bitch! You will pay for this!” He screamed bloody hell as his own blood dripped on the tiled floor.
Meanwhile, Chen Anqi aimed a strong kick on the other man’s groin, leaving him limping in pain.
The two learned these self-defense moves from Ye Xingjie himself. He said that it wouldn’t hurt to know some skills to protect themselves when help wasn’t available. Sun Feiyan never thought that there would be a day she would be able to use it, but she was thankful that her body was able to remember unconsciously.
“Anqi! Run!” She yelled.
These men… she had once encountered them at the Sun Estate and knew that they were Zou Yin’s people. As to what Zou Yin’s intention was for attacking her, she had no idea.
Was her aunt unleashing her wrath over the company’s fall unto her? ρꪖꪕᦔꪖꪕꪫꪣꫀꪶ
True, it was Lu Xinyi who crushed the whole company, but that didn’t mean she didn’t contribute to it.
“Leave! Go and ask for help!” She shouted when she noticed that Chen Anqi was frozen in place.
In the end, she dragged her assistant out of her apartment and ran for their lives. Chen Anqi panted for breath and had to stop for a while. Seeing her like this, it pained Sun Feiyan. Her friend shouldn’t be implicated in this. These men were after her after all.
“Let’s split here, Anqi. I’ll try to distract them so you can run away,” she told Chen Anqi. They stopped at the dim-lit stairway five floors below where Sun Feiyan’s apartment was and didn’t dare to use the elevators. They both looked disheveled by now and were panting for breath as they’d been running for some time now.
“Yanyan! You cannot do this! No! Anything but this, Yanyan!” Her assistant cried out. She’d always listen to whatever her miss requested or ordered her, but she couldn’t and wouldn’t turn her back to Sun Feiyan like this. Years of knowing each other, Chen Anqi knew what was running on her miss’s mind.
Chen Anqi’s tears streaming down her cheeks as she begged her miss not to leave for her sake. If only Ye Xingjie was still with them, this wouldn’t happen to her young miss.
“Hush, Anqi. This is my fault anyway. There’s not enough time left.” Sun Feiyan stepped forward and hugged her only loyal friend she’d gained in her life.
“I cannot allow you to get hurt because of me. Anqi, listen to me…” she told her sternly.
She wiped Chen Anqi’s cheeks dry and held her face with trembling hands. Sun Feiyan’s face remained calm and collected, but she was nervous as hell behind the mask. She didn’t know if the psycho button in her aunt’s brain had been switched on by Lu Xinyi.
“They will not stop until they can catch me. As long as you part with me here, they wouldn’t be able to chase after you. Once you escape, do whatever you want. Call help or leave this place at once. I don’t care, but you mustn’t stay beside me.”
Chen Anqi shook her head and continued to cry. She clung on her miss’s arm desperately. Why did her miss sound like she had lost all hope? Was she really giving up and will accept her fate willingly?
“No… no… Please, Yanyan. Don’t do this.”
She didn’t understand why her miss had to suffer alone like this. From her childhood until now, it seemed that fate didn’t want Sun Feiyan to be happy. Wasn’t it enough that Sun Feiyan lost her father at a young age and was forcefully taken away from her birth mother?
Now, Ye Xingjie abandoned her and had to face her crazy aunt’s wrath.
“Go now, don’t follow me anymore. I’m giving you your freedom, Anqi. Whether I live today or not, please remember I care for you.” Sun Feiyan gently nudged her to start running down the stairs.
“It’s okay, Anqi. You have done enough for me, and I can never repay you for your kindness.” Her eyes filled with gentleness and concern to the only person who treated her well.
For the first time since she met Sun Feiyan, Chen Anqi finally saw her smile genuinely. Her miss always had a mask of indifference on her face, hiding her real nature. No one knew her better than Chen Anqi.
Still, Chen Anqi hesitated to go without her miss. She couldn’t stop her tears as she continued running down the stairs deeply aware that Sun Feiyan was watching her back.
Once Sun Feiyan deemed that Chen Anqi had run away a good distance from her, she ran back to where they came from and saw the same men who assaulted them earlier.
“I’ll not run away anymore. Take me to where Zou Yin is,” she demanded sharply. By surrendering herself, Chen Anqi should get enough time to escape.
‘Chen Anqi, please be safe and never come back here.’ She prayed in her heart as the men dragged her away from the dark hallway.
