Chapter 186
Shen Yi lifted a hand, instantly stopping his assistant from pushing Gong Yijun out of the bridge. “Do you know what happens to everyone who keeps on disappointing me?” he asked sternly, “Didn’t I make myself clear when I warned you before?”
Gong Yijun couldn’t see him from his position. The ever-consuming darkness below the bridge waited for him. His eyes widened, breath ragged and harsh. His whole body shook as his own throat betrayed him and stifled his scream. He heard it coming his way; the light and assured footsteps of Shen Yi were like a threatening whisper to his soul.
It didn’t seem he was going to survive tonight. The sounds around him encapsulated him inside, feeding his fear, despair, and hopelessness. It only dawned upon him that he indeed offended the wrong person, and it was too late for him to beg for her mercy. He probably wouldn’t make it out alive.
“Do you know how easy it was for us to stage your death? A homeless guy, who couldn’t take it anymore, jumped off the bridge to free himself from despair. Doesn’t it sound normal to you?”
Gong Yijun knew that Shen Yi was several meters away from him, but his words felt like he was next to his ears. Qiao He’s hold on his back loosened, and he instinctively let out a silent scream of horror. They weren’t playing with him anymore. Shen Yi would surely end him this time.
“Stop! Please don’t kill me! What should I do for you to let me go?!” he pleaded.
“Oh? You want your freedom? Then you should ask my wife,” Shen Yi said with sarcasm.
Qiao He pulled Gong Yijun’s body and threw him to the ground, forcing him to his knees.
Gong Yijun lifted his head and looked at Lu Xinyi, the woman he betrayed and cheated on. He couldn’t believe how fast she moved on without him. How long she’d been married to President Shen? After she came back from a week of absence, she became a totally different person.
“Yijun, did you know how I met President Shen?” Lu Xinyi asked as if she could read what was going through his mind, but before he could answer, she continued her words: “That one-week surprise vacation that we were supposed to go… we both know that my relationship with him is none of your business, but I will tell you anyway. He was the one who was there at the hardest point of my life. He was the only one who cared about me when you chose to betray me! For a cheater like you, you will never understand what loyalty means.” ρꪖꪕᦔꪖꪕꪫꪣꫀꪶ
After hearing those words, Gong Yijun stared at the ground with guilt. It was him who pushed Lu Xinyi away from himself after all. It was his own fault why she ended up with President Shen.
“You want to be free? Sure, go ahead.” Lu Xinyi laughed which was sounded a little weird to those people around her. “Why don’t you get out of my life? Go on, get lost! I never want to see your face again. Leave this city. Change your name if you want to. I don’t want to see any trace of your existence ever again.”
Hearing those words, Gong Yijun felt he was slapped directly on his face. She could care less whether he got killed or chased away. He wanted to retaliate and tell her that she didn’t need to tell him what to do because he knew now how dangerous Shen Yi was.
With one last hateful glance, Lu Xinyi left the scene and went back to the limo that was still waiting for her and Shen Yi. The silence between the men was unbearable. It was until that Gong Yijun took the courage to lift his head to see Shen Yi staring down at him with his hands on his pockets.
“You heard what she said. Will you still insist going after her, or you will take this as your last warning?”
Gong Yijun was filled with conflicting emotions. He was afraid of Shen Yi—angry at himself for being an idiot. He was also full of regrets now that he thought of the things he had done to Lu Xinyi. He took something that was so precious to her. He had regrets, but he knew he could no longer go back with the way before.
He’d lost Lu Xinyi. He lost his other woman and his child. His own mother abandoned him after their business closed down. Where did his betrayal lead him? It almost cost him his life just because he kept blaming Lu Xinyi for the things he’d done to her.
“Lu Xinyi might have let you out the hook, but—” Shen Yi gave Qiao He a knowing look. His assistant nodded in understanding. Gong Yijun, who suddenly realized what Shen Yi meant, started to plead for his life again; but his words had fallen on deaf ears.
Shen Yi walked away, following his wife to the limo before leaving with her. As the car disappeared from sight, the silence of the bridge was disturbed by a frightening scream from a man. Sure, Lu Xinyi would never let Shen Yi’s hand get tainted by Gong Yijun’s blood, but that didn’t deter her husband to teach Gong Yijun a lesson he would never forget in this lifetime.
No one could hurt Lu Xinyi and remain unscathed. Of course, Lu Xinyi herself didn’t need to know about this. She was too innocent to understand her husband’s ways.
Half an hour later, a half-dead body of Gong Yijun washed to the banks. Qiao He removed the tie on Gong Yijun’s wrist and abandoned him. Taking off his black gloves, he threw it off the bridge. With one last look to his latest prey, Qiao He shook his head. If Gong Yijun survived tonight, he would be on a vegetative state for the rest of his life.
