Chapter 2834: Tension In the Air
Chapter 2834: Tension In the Air
Zu An replied with a calm smile, “Memory worshipers only seek to record everything faithfully. We don’t flaunt our stature.”
The First Elder is a devout worshiper of Order, which is why he favors the Holy Knight Order, which is also in the Order faction, over me. He hopes for Isabella to marry Adrian. With that, the Universal Conglomerate and the Holy Knight Order can deepen their cooperation.
That’s why he tried to isolate me inside that manor.
But another elder reached out to me and invited me to this banquet. The seven elders are indeed not that united in will.
The crowd had the weirdest look on their faces. You just fought with the Holy Knight Order’s captain and made a fool out of its vice captain, and yet you say that you aren’t flaunting?
But again, there was nothing wrong with that. A universal deity’s envoy was bound to have some temper, not to mention that Adrian was the one who'd provoked him first.
That was how the world worked.
The same matter would be viewed in a different light if the individual involved was of a lower stature. If Zu An had been a bumpkin from a minor world, no one would have thought there was an issue when he was trampled under Adrian’s foot.
Oberon’s face darkened, but that was indeed the nature of Memory worshipers. They didn’t interfere in matters, and that was why they had a good relationship with the other factions of universal deities.
In fact, Memory worshipers often concealed themselves in the shadows, so that others couldn’t even sense their presence.
But this fellow doesn’t feel like a Memory worshiper. His behavior is more aligned with a Chaos and Enigma worshiper.
“We have not sent any invitation out to any Memory worshipers, so I’ll have to ask you to...”
A plump figure stepped forward and interjected, “Big brother, we need a Memory worshiper to witness this event anyway. Besides, that man saved Isabella and carries our Conglomerate’s golden friendship emblem. We will appear ungrateful if we chase him out.”
Zu An looked at the plump man. He must be Fourth Elder Mastema, the one who sent me the invitation letter.
I ought to thank him for his intervention, but it’s hard to feel any goodwill toward him when he keeps looking around with eyes filled with desire.
Third Elder Aragorn immediately built on that, “He’s right, big brother. That event takes priority. We mustn’t lose sight of what’s important over trivial affairs.”
With two elders dissuading him against it, the First Elder could only let this matter rest, though he harrumphed in displeasure. He turned to Adrian and asked, “Are you injured? We have all kinds of medicine in our Conglomerate.”
Adrian was too ashamed to speak, so Augustus replied on his behalf, “Thank you for your concern, First Elder, but my son has only fallen for that fellow’s evil sorcery. Fortunately, he didn’t sustain any injuries.”
The mention of that prompted Augustus and Oberon to assess Zu An. What was that power earlier? I didn’t sense any energy pulsation. Is it a law-level ability? But Memory shouldn’t have that kind of ability.
Fourth Elder Mastema moved his plump body as he spoke cheerily, “We need a Memory worshiper to record the great Order Ceremony, so that we can propagate Order’s greatness across the Myriad Worlds. No one is more suited to the task than Memory’s envoy.”
Order Ceremony?
Isabella explained, “The Conglomerate is the most devoted group of Order worshipers. Every era, we invite devoted Order worshipers over to hold the Order Ceremony to sing praises of the Deity of Order and propagate their greatness. Each time, we invite important figures from other paths to witness the ceremony.”
Zu An breathed a sigh of relief.
The events at Dreamland had traumatized him. Surely something like that won’t happen again, given the sheer number of powerhouses gathered here.
Augustus protested, “I object. It was just moments ago he had a conflict with Adrian. I don’t think he can be an impartial witness.”
Zu An replied with a smile, “Lord Augustus, are you doubting the Deity of Memory’s judgment? The Deity of Memory chose me to be their envoy because they believe in my competency.”
Augustus choked. No matter how formidable he was, he wouldn’t dare to blaspheme a universal deity. Can you stop mentioning the Deity of Memory at every turn? Argh!
You have successfully trolled Augustus for +444... +444... +444...
I’d have torn him into shreds if he wasn’t a Memory envoy!
“The Deity of Memory’s judgment can’t be wrong, but I can’t find it within me to harbor any goodwill toward an infidel like you.” A dashing man dressed in a magnificent robe walked out. Time had hardly left its mark on him; if anything, it only made him more dignified. He must have charmed many women in his younger years.
Many female guests squealed in excitement. Stars twinkled in their eyes, and it looked like they would faint from excitement.
Looking at his elder robe and dashing looks, Zu An knew right away that he had to be the Second Elder, Hermes.
Hermes looked at Zu An and Chu Chuyan in contempt. “If you already have a wife, you should be faithful to her and avoid other women. The last thing you should do is to bring her here when asking for Isabella’s hand of marriage. You’re the worst scum there is out there.”
Zu An was speechless. This is annoying. I forgot about his devoted lover character setting.
Hermes’s words made many female guests clutch their chests and swoon.
“Hermes is so devoted to his lover!”
“This is a true man!”
“How wonderful if I could marry him.”
“Dream on! If he’s going to marry anyone, it would be me.”
“That Zu fellow is a scoundrel. Pui! What a waste of his good skin.”
...
Hearing the insults directed at her lover, Chu Chuyan interjected, “Sir, you aren’t me. How do you know I’m not happy? I fully support Ah Zu proposing to Miss Isabella. The two of them have gone through a huge ordeal and forged a tight bond through it. It’d instead pain me if they had to part ways over me.”
Hermes sneered, “You love him and don’t want to see him unhappy, but he ignores your feelings and pursues other women. Doesn’t that show that your love for him is unrequited?”
Chu Chuyan looked at Zu An with a tender smile. “We have been through a lot. Our feelings have transcended words and form. We don’t have to prove our relationship to others.”
The esteemed guests gathered in this palatial banquet hall watched in awe as a beautiful lady stood steadfast to protect her lover.
Fourth Elder Mastema stared intently at Chu Chuyan. “Miss Chu, do you have any sisters?”
“I have two younger sisters.” Chu Chuyan was perplexed by the abrupt question.
“I dare not dream of someone like Miss Chu. Can you introduce your sisters to me? I’d be content if they are half as gentle as you,” Mastema looked at her with lustful eyes.
Chu Chuyan said, “...I’m afraid they are already married.”
“What a pity.” Mastema sighed as he reluctantly tore his eyes away from her.
“Stop changing the topic, fourth brother. Her words don’t make any sense.” Hermes frowned.
He was about to continue speaking when a bewitching voice echoed, “Second brother, I think this fellow isn't bad. I like him.”
