Chapter 2690: Solution

Chapter 2690: Solution

Chu Chuyan revealed a faint smile. “You abruptly asked me about my master, and most people wouldn’t talk about my master and romance in the same breath. You wouldn’t have asked such a question if you hadn’t noticed something.”

Pei Mianman felt a mixture of awkwardness and awe. “I was worried you would be hurt, but I didn’t think it would be fair for you to be kept in the dark either. That’s why I hesitated.”

“You’re a good friend,” Chu Chuyan said with a heartened smile. She could tell whether Pei Mianman was trying to drive a wedge between her and her master or was genuinely worried about her.

“How did you know? Did Ah Zu tell you?” Pei Mianman was curious.

“He doesn’t have the guts,” Chu Chuyan scoffed. “I discovered it myself.”

“You aren’t angry at all?” Pei Mianman was surprised by how nonchalant Chu Chuyan was.

“How can I be angry? The two of them got together because of me,” Chu Chuyan remarked with a sigh.

Pei Mianman was taken aback. Is Chuyan into being cuckolded? Did she secretly push me and Ah Zu together back then too? Am I just a toy for those two?

Judging from her expression, Chu Chuyan could tell she had misunderstood. She rolled her eyes and said, “What are you thinking? It’s because I was the Snow Lady at a certain point in spacetime!”

Pei Mianman finally realized what Chu Chuyan was getting at. She sheepishly replied, “Ah, I think you mentioned that before.”

“That’s why I only have myself to blame. After becoming the Snow Lady, I lost my memories and hunted them down, leaving them with no choice but to resort to that to rescue me.” Chu Chuyan had been magnanimous when she consoled her master, but it was still a blow to her. That was why she was ranting to her good friend now.

Pei Mianman secretly chuckled. “Indeed, you can’t blame them for what happened.”

“That’s why I feel so stifled. I want to vent but I can’t find anyone to vent to!” Chu Chuyan smacked her thighs whenever she thought about this.

“So, you’re permitting their relationship?” Pei Mianman was perplexed. “I can’t imagine your master’s reaction to that.”

“She doesn’t know that I know,” Chu Chuyan replied with a sigh.

Pei Mianman was stunned. You’re wilder than I thought!

Chu Chuyan explained, “You know my master too. She’s lofty and cares about her reputation. I’m worried she’ll do something extreme if this matter is revealed.”

Pei Mianman nodded in understanding. “That’s possible.”

Yan Xuehen was too famous. The world saw her as a paragon of purity. No one would accept her getting into a relationship with a man.

Had her partner been anyone else, she could have just weathered the storm and it would all eventually pass. But of all people, her partner was Ah Zu, her own disciple’s husband.

Pei Mianman could already imagine how the world would react. They would say that she appeared pure on the surface but secretly schemed to steal her disciple’s man—making her worse than the Devil Sect’s demonesses.

That was what the world was like. They were much more tolerant of villains than good people. A villain would be praised for doing something good for once, whereas a person who had been good their whole life would be eternally condemned for committing the slightest misdeed.

“That’s why I hid the truth from my master. I told Ah Zu to find a way to help her come to terms with this.” Chu Chuyan felt tired. She was the one being cuckolded, yet she still had to clean up after them.

Pei Mianman was stunned. “So Ah Zu knows that you know!” She gritted her teeth in anger. So Ah Zu had Chu Chuyan’s permission all this time. To think I was worried for him!

Chu Chuyan suddenly tensed up. “Was it not Ah Zu who told you about it? How else did you learn about their relationship?”

Pei Mianman told Chu Chuyan about how Yun Jianyue and Qiu Honglei had tried to solicit her help to investigate Zu An and Yan Xuehen’s relationship.

Chu Chuyan was so agitated that she stood up from the lotus and nearly fell into the Oblivion River. “This is bad! Sect Master Yun is my master’s nemesis. My master will be in trouble if she learns the truth!”

Pei Mianman interjected, “Despite Sect Master Yun’s reputation as a demoness, I don’t think she’s a bad person after getting to know her. I don’t think she’ll corner Sect Master Yan.”

Chu Chuyan paced around the lotus. “Sect Master Yan can be magnanimous at times, but that's toward others and not my master. My master and her are true mortal enemies. For many years, she's failed to outdo my master. She won’t miss a chance to mock my master. My master can remain nonchalant before anyone but her. Faced with Sect Master Yan’s ridicule, I suspect she would rather die than suffer the shame.”

Pei Mianman’s head hurt. “But Sect Master Yun and Honglei are suspecting their relationship, whereas Sect Master Yan knows nothing about the situation. She’s at a disadvantage.”

Chu Chuyan frowned. She pondered for a while before asking, “Manman, can you help my master? Didn’t Sect Master Yun send you to investigate my master? You placate them for now and find a chance to subtly tip off my master.”

Pei Mianman was conflicted. “Have you forgotten that Sect Master Yun is my older cousin?”

“Aren’t we sisters too?” Chu Chuyan blinked. “Not to mention we’re close friends on top of that. You don’t intend to side with me?”

Pei Mianman was rendered speechless. “Fine, I’ll help you this once. But only this once!” Just thinking about the matter gave her a headache.

“That won’t do,” Chu Chuyan anxiously spoke up. “It doesn’t seem like Ah Zu has unraveled my master’s concerns yet. You need to help him.”

“How can I help?”

“Help them normalize their relationship, so my master can be with him openly.”

Pei Mianman glared at Chu Chuyan begrudgingly. “Chuyan, have you forgotten Ah Zu is my man too? You want me to help another woman claim possession of my man?”

“Manman, I know you’re the best. Please, I’m begging you. I’ll owe you a favor. I’ll help you do one thing in the future too,” Chu Chuyan said coyly.

Pei Mianman was reminded of their days in Brightmoon City. They'd often chatted like that in private too. That softened her heart. “Fine, I’ll give it a try, but this matter is too tricky to deal with. I don’t even know where to start.”

Chu Chuyan fell silent. “I’ve been thinking about ways to normalize their relationship, and I do have an awful idea in mind.”

“What is it?” Pei Mianman was intrigued.

Chu Chuyan’s eyes gleamed. “What if Sect Master Yun got together with Ah Zu too?”

Pei Mianman was speechless.
