Zheng Dan moved quickly to grab her arm. “What’s improper about this? It’s been a long time since you last met. Others will understand.”
Bi Linglong got agitated. “That’s not what I’m talking about! I’m talking about... being here with you!”
Zheng Dan’s face turned severe. “I didn’t know you looked down on me, Your Majesty. You must think that I’m not qualified to be your sister.”
Bi Linglong exclaimed, “Don’t mock me with such bitchy words. You know what I mean.”
Shortly after Zu An’s departure, the capital had been in disarray, and the Bi clan had been purged in the previous capital upheaval. While Bi Linglong did have allies, there weren’t many people she could rely on. Sang Qien and Zheng Dan had helped her a lot in recent years. One had wisdom, and the other was skilled at socializing. The two of them had helped her resolve many problems. After working together so many times, they had long become friends. With her wits, she could tell that Zheng Dan was just playing with her.
“If you don’t mean that, why don’t you want to be here with me?” Zheng Dan harrumphed.
“It’s different!” Bi Linglong felt as if she was going to be driven mad. She looked to Zu An for help. “Say something, Ah Zu!”
“I think Dandan’s words made sense,” Zu An replied with a straight face. He secretly shot Zheng Dan a thumbs up. You’re the best!
Bi Linglong was dumbstruck. She was about to explode from anger. “You two are in cahoots!”
“It’s only a matter of time before such things happen. You just have to get used to it,” Zheng Dan replied with a grin.
Bi Linglong widened her eyes in astonishment. “Hold on, you've already... tried it before?”
Zheng Dan smiled back at her without saying a word.
But Bi Linglong caught her drift. The next question that popped into her mind was with whom Zheng Dan had done it together with, only to remember how close she was with Sang Qien. And to think I thought they looked closer than sisters! I finally understand why!
She angrily glared at Zu An. You depraved man!
The maids outside waited for a long time, but the empress didn’t come out. They exchanged perplexed looks.
The empress’ personal maid was worried. Your Majesty, do you still remember your position? You mustn’t be led astray by the regent! She glared at the other restless maids and told them not to fidget around, before arranging for some of them to return first to change shifts.
Some maids were confused. Why do we need to do shifts? It’s just waiting for a couple hours.
Bi Linglong wouldn’t bring powerless maids with her to the battlefields; these people were meticulously chosen because of their ability to double as guards. Standing for a few hours was no trouble for them.
“A few hours?” the personal maid sneered. These people don’t know how ridiculous the regent’s stamina is.
It was a relief that the regent had constructed a barrier around the room to prevent any noise from getting out, or else she wouldn’t know how to deal with the situation.
Some time later, Zhang Zitong rushed back, only to be blocked at the doorway. Startled, she explained, “I have something I need to report to the regent urgently.”
“Commander Zhang, I’m afraid it’s inconvenient for the regent to meet you right now,” the personal maid replied.
Zhang Zitong recognized the empress’ personal maid and asked, “Is Her Majesty inside?”
The personal maid nodded.
Zhang Zitong immediately figured out what was happening inside, and that made her gnash her teeth. The empress pulled the rug out from under me while I was busy with official business. Indeed, all women lust for the regent’s body.
She coughed lightly before ordering, “Guard this place properly. Don’t let anyone other than the empress enter the room, or else I’ll hold you accountable!”
She was their superior, so she had the right to issue commands to them. Hmph, it’s one thing for the empress to claim the regent’s body, but I won’t allow other vixens to join in.
Her arrangement made perfect sense, making it impossible for anyone to see through her motive. Even she herself was impressed by her wits.
The maids exchanged perplexed looks. Considering that Zhang Zitong was their superior, as well as the regent’s and the empress’ aide, they secretly informed her, “The Sang clan’s young mistress is here too.”
Zhang Zitong was speechless. She stared at the room in shock. She knew how much of a vixen Zheng Dan was, but Bi Linglong had always been dignified and demure. To think that Bi Linglong would play along to Zheng Dan’s tune!
The other guards nodded in agreement. They'd been equally shocked earlier too.
Zu An had constructed a one-way sound isolation barrier to avoid being oblivious to the happenings outside, so Bi Linglong heard the conversation outside loud and clear. She angrily bit her lover’s shoulder. “It’s all your fault! How embarrassing!”
The clean reputation she'd maintained over the years had gone down the drain. She wanted nothing more than to hide in a hole right now.
Zheng Dan mischievously blew at her ear. “Who dares tease our empress? You can issue an edict to execute them.”
“The first one I’ll execute is you!” Bi Linglong exclaimed. A ghost must have possessed her to have actually chosen to stay behind!
“Big brother Zu, she’s bullying me!” Zheng Dan shook Zu An’s arm as she lodged a complaint.
Her voice was so cloying that Bi Linglong, despite being a fellow woman, shuddered. Do men like her type? Ugh, I can’t copy that even if I want to.
Zu An was in a good mood. “You can bully her back.”
“Yes, my regent.” Zheng Dan’s hands shot for Bi Linglong’s body, causing the lofty empress to squeal nonstop.

The following morning, the radiant sun cast its rays on Phoenix Pass. Peace had returned after yesterday’s battle, and everyone in the city seemed to radiate bliss from their faces. Quite a few people were still discussing the regent’s valiance.
Bi Linglong, who was surveying the surroundings, leaped in shock. She was afraid that someone had heard their voices last night. However, she quickly realized they were referring to Zu An’s battle with Zhao Yuan and the Shadow Group, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
It’s all that vixen Zheng Dan’s fault! I lost my dignity as an empress last night! Does she usually go that far with Sang Qien too?
Thinking about what happened yesterday made Bi Linglong blush furiously. I didn’t think there was such a side to Little Qien beneath her demure front. I should advise Ah Zu to calm down a little lest he hurt his body.
But considering her lover’s unique constitution, her worries were likely to be unfounded.
Zhang Zitong looked at Bi Linglong in admiration. Your Majesty is truly self-disciplined. She didn’t sleep a wink last night, and she could barely walk when she left the room in the early morning. Yet, she still perked herself up and insisted on doing an inspection. Is that her guilty conscience at work?
