Chapter 1766: Temporary Peace
Chapter 1766: Temporary Peace
After reminding himself of this truth, Wang Wei focused on the seedling. This item has immense value for two members of the Dao Opening Sect: Qiyuan and Yan Liling. Although Wang Wei has already handed over the [Universal Soul Quintessence Method], Qiyuan still needs to modify it. More importantly, Qiyuan might not want to use this method. As someone whose name literally means Origin of Qi and who cultivated the Dao of Origin, the seedling was perfect for him.
Meanwhile, Yan Liling follows the transcendent path of [Pure Skill]. Flame Manipulation is a fundamental skill required for all Alchemists. She will definitely find inspiration from the Ink Flame, and even if she did not, just using it as her primary Alchemy Flame should bring immense benefits. A smile crept on Wang Wei’s face as he placed the flame away and entered his seclusion.
...
Infinite Divine Court Base, Reverse Black Stone Array:
Jiang Ye was acting as the acting commander while all the Tribunal Lords attacked the invaders. A screen manifested before him, displaying all the array cores already destroyed. After trying and failing to stop it, Jiang Ye went on the offensive and cast the [Vengeance Spirit Spell]. However, the Primordial Beings’ response to his attack was swifter than he had anticipated.
"Their commander is quite talented," Jiang Ye muttered. He unleashed the second level of the spell, using the devastation caused by these invaders against them. But he did not expect the enemy commander to call him a hypocrite by summoning the vengeful ghost killed during their invasion of this timeline.
A screen suddenly popped up to alert him of an emergency in the core array. After swiftly dealing with them, Jiang Ye focused on the enemy’s counterattack. Without much hesitation, he activated the [Darkness Beneath The Light]. In its early days, the Infinite Divine Court suffered countless casualties because of the power of obsession and the vengeance of those they had killed during the expedition. So, the Highest Sovereign spent time creating the technique [Darkness Beneath The Light].
Even the brightest of lights will be accompanied by darkness. The Infinite Divine Court has brought hope and salvation to myriad races and beings, but the process has involved ruthless invasion and the amassing of resources. The Highest Sovereign does not shun the darkness or hide it like something to be ashamed of. Instead, he embraced it. Any creatures hit with the [Darkness Beneath The Light] will be sent into the Infinite Divine Court’s [darkness] to be used by them. As for what that darkness is? Well, only a few individuals at the top of the Empire know.
After dealing with the counterattack of these vengeful spirits, Jiang Ye was about to contemplate his next move when something occurred. The enemy retreated faster than cats whose tails stepped on, and soon afterward, a terrifying palm materialized out of nowhere.
"Suiji? Damn it." Jiang Ye felt no joy about this sudden change. He knew what her interference meant. In his excitement, a slight golden light flashed in his eyes, and his body released a terrifying [Emperor Aura] unlike anything he should have been able to. A terrible pain suddenly flashed deep in Jiang Ye’s soul, which allowed him to regain reason and his former bearing,
"Still unwilling?"
Jiang Ye turned to glance at the Heavenly Wolf Khan next to him, but he did not respond. Although he agreed to cultivate the [Emperor Light Scripture], he still wanted to resist the call of the light for as long as possible. Sadly, his resistance meant a delay in establishing the connection with the [Highest Sovereign].
"Let’s hope Suiji can call these people. Otherwise, we will no longer tolerate your resistance," the Myriad Gourd Empress coldly snorted. Unlike the Khan, she had no patience for Jiang Ye, who was simply ruining their plans. If it were up to her, she would have long wiped his consciousness and turned him into a puppet dedicated to cultivating that scripture.
Jiang Ye ignored these people. To his knowledge, no one who has ever become a vessel has gone far in the path of cultivation — even if they are perfectly revived, and all side-effects are eliminated. Although there is no direct proof, the consensus is that there is a hidden backlash to becoming someone’s vessel, and the higher the cultivation, the more serious the damage.
Although he has already resigned to his fate, Jiang Ye wanted to fight for an opportunity. As the saying goes, Heavenly Dao contains 50 paths; it evolves 49, leaving one path or door open for all sentient beings. Jiang Ye believes that by resisting for as long as possible, when he’s revived, maybe he will have a chance of breaking the hidden curse of vessels.
Boom!
The last strike fell, but everybody’s worst-case scenario still occurred: these pests of invaders survived. They waited, and as expected, a few seconds later, a woman whose beauty could be described as otherworldly appeared in the room. She was wearing a low-cut black dress, showing her long legs, bare foot with a golden bracelet around her ankle. Two fluffy, white fox ears hung on her head, along with a beautiful tail with golden marks.
"Is everything alright?" Myriad Gourd Empress immediately asked. However, Suiji’s response was to vomit a mouthful of blood. The Empress approached to help, but Suiji stopped her.
"The backlash was more severe than I thought," Suiji explained. She glanced at everybody before stopping on Jiang Ye. With one glance, she understood his situation. "I will immediately enter seclusion to recuperate. Once I’m out, I will tear a hole big enough in the timeline’s blockade for his majesty to descend."
"I...understand."
Suiji did not waste another breath before disappearing. A few seconds later, these Tribunal Lords could feel an intense power of Life and Death, Time, and even nourishing energy from the Source Qi Space entering the depths of the base where she had retreated. With complete control of the Grand Constructs, Suiji’s recovery should be swift, but her type of [Existence Injury], which could be described as [Dao Injuries], is not easy to heal.
"What should we do next?" Star Manifestation asked. "Should we attack them?"
"A few rats have entered the array’s core area," Jiang Ye suddenly said. Before activating the [Darkness Beneath The Light], he detected countless people entering the core area. Although he killed most of them, a few escaped his wrath. "You should check to see if they did something."
These second-step powerhouses frowned before using their immense divine sense to check all the 3800 Array Core Worlds.
"I detect anomalies in Worlds 3, 46, 645, 876, 987, 1765, and 2876," the Yin-Yang Origin Dragon revealed. "However, all karma and information of what they did had been wiped clean."
"Same," the Heavenly Wolf Khan added. "Let’s try again with the power of the River of Fate." The benefit of controlling all six Grand Constructs immediately showed itself. Unfortunately, when the Primordial Tribunal Lords sent Group A to set up Spatial Beacons for the upcoming invasion of the array’s core, they prepared for many possibilities — including this one.
"Should we destroy these worlds?" the Nine Spirit Lion Saint asked.
"This may be the only way," the Myriad Gourd Empress commented.
"No," Heavenly Wolf Khan said, trying to control himself not to roll his eyes at the stupidity of these people.
"This array requires an unprecedented level of precision. Not only can we not destroy it, but we also can’t even change anything," Jiang Ye explained. The conditions for the Reverse Black Stones to be created or mined were truly a nightmare. So many things have to go right before having the slightest chance at success. That’s why even someone as powerful as the Highest Sovereign cannot easily create this material, leaving the entire court to rely on a few bases to produce them.
"We will prepare traps in these worlds," Star Manifestation commented. "Since they have designed for them, they must come at some point. As long as we are prepared, we can deal them a devastating blow."
"For now, that’s all we can do," the Heavenly Wolf Khan sighed.
"There is movement," the Yin-Yang Origin Dragon reminded. The projection in the meeting room showed the enemy moving countless worlds to repair their array.
"Should we attack?"
"Two of them are injured, so this should be an opportunity," the Khan analyzed. "However, we also need to fix our own array." With more than three-quarters of the outer cores destroyed, the Reverse Black Stone has stopped working, and while the inner areas can still produce the stones for now, it’s only a matter of time before they also stop working without the proper support.
"I think we should preserve the temporary peace. After all, the more time passes, the more advantage we will have," Star Manifestation shared with the group. As long as Suiji heals her injuries, their chances of surviving this ordeal will dramatically improve.
"What about their pillars of destruction?" the Myriad Gourd Empress reminded. "Are we just going to watch them rebuild them?"
"No, we will attack if they try," the Heavenly Wolf Khan declared. "But for now, let’s use this temporary peace to our advantage."
