Chapter 69: Encountering Gu Xiaoxian Again
Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Encountering Gu Xiaoxian Again
Throughout the journey, Bai Bing kept a cold face, making the entire car feel like it was encased in a thick layer of ice. Lin Xi felt the temperature was colder than with the air conditioning on.
"What’s wrong?" Lin Xi couldn’t help but ask curiously, but Bai Bing, looking like she didn’t want to be disturbed, focused diligently on driving her car.
Lin Xi didn’t overthink it, as Bai Bing had always been like this.
With nothing to do and some time before reaching the school, Lin Xi decided to play on his phone. On WeChat, he only had two people: the recent Shangguan Nishang and his homeroom teacher, Zhu Ying.
"Teacher Zhu, any stomach pain?" Lin Xi asked out of concern.
Zhu Ying, who was eating at school, felt her phone vibrate. When she saw it was a message from Lin Xi, she initially didn’t want to open it but then remembered that as a homeroom teacher, she needed to be responsible. Plus, she had just told the students in the morning that they could contact her via WeChat for anything.
And what if he really needed something?
With this in mind, Zhu Ying opened the message, and her face instantly darkened.
Stomach pain?
Are you doing this on purpose? Are you flirting with me?
Don’t you know I just had pain, and it would take a while before it would recur?
If it happened every day, could I still be alive today?
So without thinking, Zhu Ying deleted Lin Xi’s message, ignoring it!
Lin Xi waited for a while but didn’t get a reply from Zhu Ying. Instead, he got a message from Shangguan Nishang inviting him to dinner.
Lin Xi naturally asked if anything was up. She said no, just to have dinner and chat.
"Insane," Lin Xi cursed inwardly. Just having dinner and chatting? What fun is that? He simply declined, saying he wouldn’t go.
On the other side, Shangguan Nishang, holding a phone in one hand and driving with the other, paused for quite a while, and couldn’t help but angrily curse, "What kind of person is this?"
Not to mention that she had rarely asked anyone out so proactively, and yet she got rejected. The person on the other side must be blind.
She held back her anger and tried various ways to get Lin Xi to talk, but Lin Xi just responded with simple "oh," "hmm," "what," etc.
Shangguan Nishang was about to explode with anger but remembered that she wanted to outshine Bai Bing, so she forced herself to swallow her rage.
She couldn’t help but think, once I snatch you from Bai Bing, I’ll decisively kick you away.
Screech...
The Ferrari came to an abrupt stop, with a long and piercing sound of tires scratching against the ground, catching the attention of many Jiangnan University students.
Lin Xi, who had been absentmindedly answering Shangguan Nishang’s messages, lurched forward, and his phone almost flew out of his hand.
Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, Lin Xi suggested to Bai Bing, "Did the PE teacher teach you how to brake?"
Bai Bing gave Lin Xi a glance as if to say, "You’re really having a good chat, huh!"
"Give me your phone!" Bai Bing said.
"For what?" Lin Xi asked.
"Add me on WeChat!"
"I thought you didn’t use it?"
"I want to use it now, can’t I?"
"Alright..."
After they added each other, Bai Bing returned the phone to Lin Xi. Lin Xi invited her, "How about going to school for dinner with me? My treat?"
"No need!"
"Alright, I’ll go then." Lin Xi didn’t insist. After getting out and retrieving his bag, Bai Bing made a beautiful turn and instantly disappeared from sight.
"Huh? Why is it just the braking that’s so bad?"
Lin Xi turned and walked towards the school gate.
He planned to drop off his things at the dormitory first, then head to the dining hall for some food, as it wasn’t convenient to carry so many bags to eat.
Passing by the building where he previously reported, Lin Xi saw a familiar figure seemingly stopped by three other guys. "Gu Xiaoxian?"
This was the girl Lin Xi asked for directions on his first day at school. They had coincidentally been at the same mixer later that evening as well.
He remembered the other three buddies from his dorm also wanted to match them up.
Could someone be bullying her?
Thinking about it, it was possible. If Gu Xiaoxian just wasn’t a bit naive, she’d definitely be a stunning beauty like Bai Bing, and her style was distinctive.
For example, she’s like a real-life Hyuga Hinata.
As Lin Xi was about to approach, those three guys left, and Gu Xiaoxian turned around, just in time to see Lin Xi staring at her.
"Ah!"
She let out a scream, suddenly seeming flustered.
"Are you okay?" Lin Xi stepped forward to ask, as he noticed something was slightly off about Gu Xiaoxian.
"No, no, no... no problem." Gu Xiaoxian lowered her head, not daring to look at Lin Xi, appearing quite shy.
"Don’t worry, there’s nothing I can’t solve." Lin Xi, noticing her anxious expression, didn’t push too hard.
"Thank you, really... really, it’s nothing." Gu Xiaoxian’s face turned slightly red, and she was suddenly at a loss.
"Well then, let’s add each other on WeChat. If anything happens, just message me anytime," Lin Xi said, opening his WeChat, realizing there wasn’t much he could learn from her now.
"Okay." Gu Xiaoxian nodded.
After adding contacts, Gu Xiaoxian, for the first time, lifted her head, looking at Lin Xi and stammering, "I... I have to run, something urgently..."
"Okay." Lin Xi nodded.
Once Gu Xiaoxian left, the smile on Lin Xi’s face disappeared. Even though Gu Xiaoxian said she was fine, her expression subtly suggested otherwise.
But since she didn’t want to talk, Lin Xi didn’t feel it was right to force her.
"I’ll let the guys investigate later, find out who’s causing trouble for Gu Xiaoxian!" Lin Xi thought as he headed back to the dormitory.
Back at the dormitory, the three brothers were not in the room.
After putting the new clothes into the washing machine, Lin Xi went downstairs, heading to the small cafeteria, ordering seven or eight dishes and getting a whole big bowl of rice.
Once settled, Lin Xi started eating nonchalantly.
In less than half an hour, Lin Xi had devoured all the food and rice by himself.
This shocked both the small cafeteria’s owner and his wife, thinking, could this possibly not lead to a medical emergency?
Luckily, it was almost three o’clock, so there weren’t many people in the cafeteria, and those who were, were quite spaced out. If it had been lunchtime, Lin Xi’s eating would definitely have become a famous story at Jiangnan University.
The owner’s wife nudged the owner, telling him to go and ask about the situation. The owner reluctantly approached Lin Xi to inquire, "Hey handsome, are you alright?"
"What?" Lin Xi asked, confused, as he stood up, ready to head back to the dorm.
As Lin Xi stood up, the owner was even more shocked. He noticed Lin Xi’s stomach showed no hint of bulging, meaning he had eaten so much, yet his stomach wasn’t even slightly swollen.
Mind you, all that food was at least enough for ten people.
"I mean, are you full?" The owner asked, only to be fiercely glared at by his wife from not far away, as if to say, who told you to ask that?
"Seventy percent full; it’s not good to eat too much now, or I won’t be able to eat at night." Lin Xi thought for a bit and complimented, "Your food is good, I’ll come again next time."
"Right, here’s the money; you can keep the change."
Lin Xi handed over two one-hundred-yuan notes to the owner, feeling that having money felt different.
"Seventy percent full?" The owner and his wife watched Lin Xi’s departing figure, silent for a long time.
