Chapter 5529: Emergence!
Chapter 5529: Emergence!
The first thing that existed was a pulse.
DUM.
One beat, in an ocean of nothing, and Noah existed around it the way sound exists around a struck bell! He had no body yet. He had no eyes, no frame, no seas of power! There was only the pulse, and the quiet certainty folded inside it, and the pulse was a liver.
THE Hepatarch of the Undying Root was rebuilding him.
DUM. DUM.
And what a strange, profound thing it was, to be regrown from one’s own organ! He felt himself assembling outward from that single glimmering seed, layer by patient layer, and the Root did not rebuild him the way healing rebuilds, flesh first and self after. It rebuilt him self FIRST!
His records returned in vast ordered floods, era upon era pouring back into being, the skill book, the dungeons, the crowns, the graves, every climb and every cost! His memories seated themselves. His Intent reassembled around its own claim, I am, I am, I AM, each beat of the Root another syllable of the sentence that was him! His authority, his Tongue, his Letters, his Foundations, all of it drawn back out of the Root’s deep reserve and rewoven, and only then, only around a self already whole, did the flesh come!
And the flesh that came...was new.
For the Root did not have his old body to copy from. His old body had been split apart and spent! So it built him from what he had become, and what he had become was THE Primeval Osmontian Marrow, and so bone by bone, weaving by weaving, Noah Osmont was rebuilt...entirely out of Primeval Osmontian Cells.
Not threaded with them. MADE of them! A body woven wholly from matter that was part Primeval and part him, from his skeleton to his blood to the seas of his Infinity and Source, and as the last of it knitted closed and his eyes opened within the vaulted dark of the White Steed...
He felt it immediately.
His Intent and his Osmontian Source Infinity felt unfathomably light, and unfathomably sharp!
Where his power had once moved through him like great oceans, heavy and vast, it now moved like drawn light! Every expression of his will arrived without friction, every thread of his Infinity answered before the asking finished, an existence rebuilt without a single seam of its old climbing, and Noah flexed one new hand slowly as stellar blue-gold light traced through fingers that had never existed until this moment!
|Welcome back, Master. THE Hepatarch of the Undying Root is exhausted. It cannot act again until its reserve regrows. Do not die twice.|
...!
He was reborn. And the door behind him was closed!
Noah rose through the vaulted dark, and looked out upon the war he had died in the middle of.
The five Organs he had seeded still budded, strong and defended, Adversity winding through Valor’s new lungs, Quintessence through Vigilance’s eyes, Mana through Obedience, Tyranny through Mercy, Harvest through Devotion, five mixed suns burning in colors this Dimension had never grown! Ruination’s strings webbed the spaces between them, cutting down every creeping filament of gray!
And at the center of everything, wrapped around the vast drumming Heart of Fealty, THE Infiniverse was already working on the Sixth Organ.
She blazed! Her full unfurled presense was pressed against the cursed Heart in tides of cerulean, realms condensed into radiance, a living Observable Existence grappling an ancient sentence with her entire self, holding ground she had held alone through the whole of her Master’s death, and Noah’s chest tightened around the sight of her, his loyal one, his home, fighting his war while his body was still being written!
Then the Curse sensed him.
And THE Gnawing Remembrance of Nhaglfarr-Ythok went mad.
The gray-black mass around the Heart convulsed as its awareness snapped across the vaulted dark to the figure it had killed, the figure it had spent four Organs’ worth of itself to kill, standing whole and new and burning quietly in the deep, and the shock that tore through the ancient sentence was a physical thing! The whole interior of Hvitrmarr shuddered with it! It had ended him. It had felt him end! And the ended thing was looking at it.
"Yes," Noah said. "Me."
And he moved!
What followed was arduous, and it was glorious! Noah crossed the vaulted dark like a drawn blade as his new existence sang, and he fell upon the cursed Heart beside THE Infiniverse, his lightened Intent slicing into gray weavings that had shrugged off his old self’s oceans, his sharpened Infinity dissolving anchor after anchor, and the Sixth Organ’s unmaking, which had cost him a collapse before, unfolded now beneath hands that moved with rebuilt purity.
The Heart of Fealty came apart in careful folds as his blood poured into the hollow, marrow-seed taking root, and THE Prime Cause of Existence flowed down into the budding chambers to wind around THE First Cause of Fealty, a bond fused to being itself, a heart that would beat for another as irrevocably as it existed at all.
And through it, at last, Hvitrmarr herself continued to join the war.
The White Steed, still bearing the full agony of the Curse across her remaining Organs, still burning in the pain that had filled three thousand years, burned with valor! Her vast sovereignty pressed down upon her own cursed anatomy from without as Noah tore at it from within, Steed and Emperor working the same wound from both sides, and her ancient voice rolled through her own vaults, tight with pain and with purpose as she finally got the handle of what Noah was doing!
"The Spine next. I will hold it still!"
They cut!
The Spine of Honor came apart between her stillness and his edge as Paradox poured into the rebuilding column, honor fused with contradiction, a spine that could bear opposing weights without breaking!
HUUM!
The Bones of Endurance followed, her frame screaming as her own skeleton was unmade and regrown, Chaos winding through Endurance, persistence that renewed itself from raw potential!
And the Stomach of Temperance last, the furnace that had only ever consumed what duty required, and into its rebuilt chambers flowed THE Prime Cause of Apocalypse, transformative endings seated inside perfect restraint, destruction that would forever after be a tool held by discipline.
And with every Organ that fell and rose again...the Curse lost its anchors!
It ROARED!
The gray-black mass raged through the shrinking territory left to it, mad past all sentience, an ancient sentence watching its grammar torn out word by word, and it lashed and gnawed and burned, and found nothing left to hold!
Nine Organs. Nine budding mixtures of First Cause and Prime Cause. Not one single seat remaining for a curse that had ruled this existence.
And at that moment, Noah closed his eyes.
He floated at the center of the White Steed’s vaulted existence, and he sensed his Causes! All nine of them, no longer merely his, intermingled through nine ancient Organs with nine First Causes seated by the very hands of Those Who Remain!
Existence wound through Fealty. Paradox through Honor. Chaos through Endurance, Mana through Obedience, Quintessence through Vigilance, Adversity through Valor, Tyranny through Mercy, Harvest through Devotion, Apocalypse through Temperance!
Eighteen Causes in nine marriages, an anatomy that no maker and no framework had ever once contained, humming through the body of a First-lineage Steed, and every single one of them was waiting on his word!
His eyes opened, and they were endless blue.
Noah said quietly, to the raging, anchorless dark...
"You have gnawed at Steeds for ages, and chewed hope out of an entire brood."
His voice did not rise, and the whole of two existences leaned into it.
"But everything ends. And this existence is mine now, and yours ended the moment you killed me and I disagreed." His hand rose. "It is time for you to go."
And using his Causes as engines...he turned everything on.
BOOM!
All nine Organs of the White Steed IGNITED at once! Nine mixed suns roared to full burn as Cause fed Cause fed Cause, Fealty’s new heart hammering, Valor’s new lungs drawing a breath the size of an era, Honor’s spine blazing down her colossal length, and from every Organ, from every marriage of First and Prime, endless blue light erupted and poured through the entirety of Hvitrmarr’s existence, flooding her vaults, her weavings, her scales, her three thousand years, one rising tide of living radiance that sought to cover everything!
—
<THE Creature>
Upon the ancient stretch of ice, beneath the falling snow, THE Creature and Anaximander had been watching grimly.
For the dark had nearly won! They had stood witness across the light-years-long split of existence as the obsidian half climbed past eighty percent, past ninety, the blue guttering down to threads, and neither of them had been able to intervene, for the war was inside a sovereignty neither could enter, and there is no watching in all of existence heavier than watching a friend’s light go out from the wrong side of a wall!
The blue had almost died. They had felt something end in there. Something vast.
And then, moments ago...the endless blue had risen!
It had come back up out of the black like a drowned dawn refusing the water, climbing, spreading, driving the obsidian before it, and now, across the frozen plains, the colossal form of the White Steed burned blue from horn to tail-tip, and at this moment...
Hvitrmarr raised her head.
Her great neck arched back against the snowing sky, her jaws opened wide, and she ROARED.
From her jaws, a pillar of murky obsidian light shot up! The whole gathered mass of the Curse, every gray-black thread of an ancient sentence torn from every Organ and every weaving, expelled in a single column that tore through the storm, and as it climbed, the pillar changed! The murk burned away along its length as white-blue light consumed it from below, obsidian becoming radiance becoming brilliance, and the pillar crossed upward across Gigaparsecs of the Dimension’s sky, a lance of transformation visible from unfathomable distances!
And it was...brilliant.
It was an endless white-blue of unfathomable Causes! Eighteen of them, First and Prime in nine marriages, announcing themselves through the expelled corpse of the thing that had chained them, the light of an existence that was living, fully, loudly, freely, and becoming free of its Curse before the eyes of the watching dark.
And alongside it, from the White Steed herself, an unfathomably pure aura of immensity erupted.
It rolled out across the frozen plains in a single sovereign wave, and Anaximander and THE Creature, an absence no framework could file and Existence itself mid-digestion toward Ananke, staggered! Their legs bent! The two of them had to grab each other’s shoulders, scholar gripping titan and titan gripping scholar, bracing against one another to make sure they did not kneel upon the ice!
For this was not even pressure. Pressure, they could have refused!
This was regality!
The unbroken authority of the First lineage, uncursed for the first time in three thousand years, seated now upon eighteen living Causes, the presense of a queen restored to what the living hands had originally made, and it did not demand that they kneel, it simply made kneeling feel like the oldest and most natural posture in existence!
The aura of regality...was too grand!
