Chapter 314: Reincarnated
Chapter 314: Reincarnated
Xiang Yu, Li Yao, and the Empress sat around a circular table.
The World Core had nestled itself atop the human Empress’s head, playfully twirling her hair. It kept stealing glances at Xiang Yu, quickly averting its gaze whenever he looked in its direction. It even started whistling innocently, pretending it hadn’t been staring.
Xiang Yu simply shook his head at this.
The Empress thought to herself that the World seemed aware of her existence. This didn’t really surprise her, the World always knew everyone within it, no matter how they tried to conceal themselves.
This wasn’t actually a special power of the World but rather an inherited trait from the Heavenly Dao, the source of all worlds. Or at least the naturally occurring ones.
She shifted her gaze toward Xiang Yu. The World appeared completely unaware of Xiang Yu’s existence. From its earlier reactions, she could confirm that this little guy had never encountered Xiang Yu before. She found this quite strange.
Previously, she had assumed Xiang Yu had transformed after receiving some kind of inheritance, but watching his advancement, she began to question what type of inheritance it could possibly be. It seemed to match even Li Yao’s Heavenly Dao body. Initially, she thought it might be an extremely high-level inheritance, after all, anything was possible in the chaos, but now, she wasn’t so certain.
If the World had never perceived Xiang Yu, that meant it hadn’t seen him even before he received the inheritance. This meant that even without considering the inheritance, Xiang Yu was already an anomaly.
Could anything truly escape the sight of the Heavenly Dao? The Heavenly Dao knew of all existence as it was the source of everything. What did this mean? Did Xiang Yu not exist?
The Empress released a deep breath and shook her head. She was overthinking things. She decided to simply attribute it to Xiang Yu having his own exceptional fortune, at least equal to Li Yao’s, if not greater.
Perched on the Empress’s head, the World Core smiled as it continued playing with her hair. It thought to itself that at least there was one normal person here, these other two were complete psychos.
When it had informed them about the imminent destruction of the world, the girl kept declaring she wouldn’t save the world because it was full of women, while the boy kept singing about his business making a comeback. Honestly, where did these psychopaths come from?
It was fortunate they seemed to be together; it didn’t want these people breeding with its other pure humans.
Thankfully, the Empress had emerged and given them a proper scolding, causing them to sit and listen like civilized people. The Core felt smug sitting atop the Empress’s head. It glanced around with satisfaction.
But its smugness instantly evaporated as it noticed Li Yao and Xiang Yu’s predatory gazes fixed upon it.
<Mommy!> it squeaked, attempting to hide behind the Empress, but it missed its footing and tumbled from her head. The Empress swiftly caught it, gently placing it on her lap.
[I’m not your mommy,] the Empress stated.
The World Core looked up at the Empress with sparkling eyes.
it thought.
But while it was admiring the Empress, Li Yao suddenly yanked it away.
“Time to pay the bills lil bro!”
…
<What?> the World Core asked, its voice tinged with confusion.
“What do you mean ‘what?’ I killed all those demons and destroyed the demon flower. Where is my heavenly merit?” Li Yao demanded, her eyes narrowing.
<Umm, well…> the Core began hesitantly, shifting uncomfortably under her intense gaze.
“What? You don’t want to pay up?” Li Yao’s fingers tightened around the Core, squeezing it.
The tiny core squirmed in her grip, its luminous form dimming slightly under the strain.
<Well, technically, you made the situation worse so…> it began to explain, but instantly fell silent upon seeing Li Yao’s expression darken.
The temperature around them seemed to drop several degrees.
“So what? Correlation doesn’t equal causation”
<That’s not…> the World Core attempted to reason, but Li Yao cut it off once more.
“Don’t care. Pay up right now,” she stated, her grip tightening even further.
Tears welled up in the World Core’s eyes as it reluctantly produced a ball of golden energy. It handed the glowing orb to Li Yao, who accepted it with a satisfied smirk.
“What about me?” Xiang Yu interjected, causing the World Core to slowly turn toward him.
“What? Wasn’t it my talismans that did the job? Don’t I deserve something?” he asked, though his voice was more calm and restrained than Li Yao’s.
<Umm, well, you don’t belong to this world, so you can’t receive heavenly merit,> the Core said.
“Doesn’t belong? Are you insulting my senior brother? Are you racist?” Li Yao spoke up.
<It’s true! He’s not in my records!> The Core waved its hands frantically, trying to defend itself against Li Yao’s accusations.
“Senior brother is like my husband. Can’t he get a green card?” Li Yao asked.
World Core: (—__—)
Xiang Yu shook his head. “Never mind,” he said.
Internally, he wondered why he wasn’t in the records of the world. Was it because he had transmigrated, or was it because his soul had become merged with the Void Flame? After some consideration, he eliminated the Void Flame as the cause. That had happened only recently, and there should have been some record of him before that event.
But the same could be said for his transmigration, as it had occurred just a few months ago. This could only point to one conclusion, he didn’t actually transmigrate. He had reincarnated into this world and only recently recovered his memories. That would explain why he wasn’t in the records; he didn’t belong here to begin with.
He had reincarnated into this world, but what happened to his previous life? Did he eventually die and reincarnate here? He couldn’t remember anything about dying. Well, not that it mattered, he thought, pushing the questions aside for now.
