Book 16: Chapter 67: Bidding My Past World Farewell
Book 16: Chapter 67: Bidding My Past World Farewell
Gu Xinyin’s chest felt completely empty.
No matter who it was, if they waited to see someone after many, many years, only to find that this person already completely departed, never to meet again, their chest would become just like Gu Xinyin’s, empty.
But after thinking over the things this self-proclaimed ambitious person did, after he thought over the final words he left behind, Gu Xinyin slowly stood up. He showed that shining icy blue whirlpool a bow and said quietly, “Thank you for all the things you’ve done for Yunqin.”
“Goodbye.” Qin Xiyue looked at the shining whirlpool while saying this to herself.
She knew that Principal Zhang had already left for many years. However, the metal trunk and the words Principal Zhang left behind made her vaguely feel that Principal Zhang had just left, that he had just said his goodbyes.
Nangong Weiyang raised her head slightly, her expression full of respect.
She also bid Principal Zhang her farewells. Principal Zhang was a mighty person. Not even his enemies could deny his greatness.
“Do not leave like him.”
Then, she turned around to look at Lin Xi, saying this seriously and directly.
Qin Xiyue’s eyes landed on Lin Xi. She understood Nangong Weiyang’s intentions. Stuck between the past and present worlds, Lin Xi naturally had a similar choice to make.
Lin Xi’s eyes jumped.
Countless scenes flashed past his head in this instant. He already understood many things.
“People really do keep growing.”
He said this quietly to himself. Then, he looked at Nangong Weiyang’s direct eyes and said quietly, “You are worried that I will leave… why do you feel like I will choose to leave?”
Nangong Weiyang’s brows furrowed. It was hard for her to respond to Lin Xi’s question. Should she say that Gao Yanan was already gone, or that it might be hard for him to give up on his past life? But in the end, she shook her head and said “It was just pure worry. I also just don’t want you to leave.”
Qin Xiyue wasn’t as direct as Nangong Weiyang, yet right now, she also looked at Lin Xi and said, “I don’t want you to leave either.”
“I won’t leave.”
Lin Xi quietly but seriously gave his reply. His eyes carried an indescribable feeling, but his voice was extremely firm.
“I understand your worries… but what he said is correct. I am a bit more fortunate. I was already able to know a long time ago that there was someone from the same ‘hometown’ as me, I made sure that my past world really exists. Moreover the metal trunk he left me has told me that he was never able to return after he entered this shining whirlpool. The starting point we make this decision from is already different.”
“If no one told me these things, if it was me who walked here alone instead and faced this door that only carried a possibility, I might not have been able to resist the urge to leave either.” Lin Xi raised his head towards that icy blue shining whirlpool that seemed like it was condensed ice, yet also released unimaginable power. He then continued, “There were countless possibilities when he faced this thing, but by the time I arrived, the only choices left were leave or stay.”
“Actually, even if one was making the same two choices from the same situations, the choices they make might still be completely different.”
“Even if I could go back, who knows how much my past world might have changed already? Or maybe everything is already different from my imagination. Or if what I saw didn’t match up with my memories, what if it was just an entirely different world? Moreover, I can’t even return to this world. In that case, wouldn’t I be facing a whole new world anyway?”
Lin Xi shook his head and said quietly, “That is why what has passed has already passed. I already have my new life.” After saying this, he lowered his hand to look at the scroll in his hands, and then he slowly said, “Goodbye, friend from the same hometown.”
Qin Xiyue suddenly felt extremely moved.
She couldn’t help but do what Lin Xi normally did, hugging him. Then, she gently patted his back, and then patted his shoulder.
She knew that Lin Xi was different from herself and everyone else in this world. He wasn’t bidding a legendary person farewell, but rather someone from the same ‘hometown’. He was bidding his own past world farewell.
…
The entire giant palace became completely quiet again.
Nangong Weiyang released a breath of relief. She wasn’t as emotional as Qin Xiyue. She only felt a bit of happiness that Lin Xi completely bid his past world farewell, that he chose to remain in her world.
However, she then began to think over the words Principal Zhang left behind.
“All powers can be interpreted to originate from energy. Energy cannot be created or destroyed… what does this mean?” She frowned, thinking about these worlds while asking.
“In that world of ours, the force that moves any object is called energy. For example, while we are talking right now, every single movement is exhausting the energy within our bodies, coming from the food we eat.” Lin Xi made a simple explanation. However, he couldn’t immediately figure out the true meaning behind Principal Zhang’s words either.
“Then that heaven and earth vital energy is also a type of energy?” Nangong Weiyang thought for a bit before asking.
“You can interpret it this way.” Lin Xi knew that if he wanted to discuss physics with Nangong Weiyang and the others, explaining the concept of molecules and atoms was an endless process. That was why after thinking to himself for a bit, he said, “It is just like light and heat, these are also energy. When they gather together, they can release great power.”
“These concepts don’t seem that hard to understand.” Nangong Weiyang nodded. “Then when he said that energy cannot be created or destroyed, what does that mean?”
“Energy is something that remains constant. For example, if I can fan some air by using a bit of strength. This power didn’t disappear, but rather changed into the wind that was fanned.” Lin Xi did his best to explain in a way that Nangong Weiyang and the others could understand. At the same time, he was thinking to himself, figuring out the meaning behind the words Principal Zhang left him with.
Gu Xinyin also began to rack his brains. He couldn’t help but say, “Could it be that Principal Zhang is trying to say that if you convert the power within you, there will be new power that floods your body? Does he want to say that there can be no construction before destruction… that you should give up on your Devil Transformation and restart from the beginning?”
“That cannot be it.” Nangong Weiyang firmly shook her head. “His body has even already been completely modified. Even if all of the blood within his body is left out, the blood that he creates again will be black. Moreover, there wasn’t even any more powerful technique left behind in Green Luan Palace, so what kind of power can he build up again?”
Everyone became quiet again.
“I want to look around this Green Luan Palace.”
After a bit of silence, Nangong Weiyang said this.
No one was opposed to this. Even though they all understood clearly that Principal Zhang already completely searched through this entire Green Luan Palace, everyone saw things differently. Perhaps some runes Principal Zhang didn’t understand might be understood by Nangong Weiyang, regardless of how small this chance was. After all, they had to obtain power from this place, or else they couldn’t contend against the continuously strengthening Zhang Ping.
Nangong Weiyang, Gu Xinyin and Qin Xiyue began to search about within this giant palace.
Lin Xi instead continuously thought over the meaning behind the words Principal Zhang left for him.
He thought that since the principal didn’t deliberately explain what he was trying to say, then that meant that the meaning hidden beneath these words wouldn’t be too difficult to understand. Principal Zhang was certain that he would be able to figure it out.
The beautiful blue sky gradually dimmed. Moonlight scattered down upon this giant spherical plaza.
Nangong Weiyang, Qin Xiyue and Gu Xinyin continued to search about within the palace. Lin Xi looked at the shining icy blue whirlpool, and then he looked at the bright and large moon. That ‘roulette’ in his head also seemed to gradually become clearer.
He suddenly understood the meaning behind Principal Zhang’s words.
“I understand.” His voice was transmitted to every corner of this massive palace.
