Chapter 2024: 24.285 Sixth Violet Star - Dwarf King Garan wakes up.
The Dwarf King, Garan, had finally woke up from his deep slumber due to his wounds. When he opened his eyes, he was lucky enough that a shaman had come to check on him and explained his current situation. After all, the last thing this King of dwarfs can remember is that human general who was turned into a pile of meat after being crushed by a huge finger or hand.
Ugh~
"Where am I?" Dwarf King Garan asked.
The shaman answered, "Ancient Forest. The Lord Guardian had saved you and Captain Vera."
"Captain Vera? Are you talking about Elf Vera?! Is he safe? Where are my people?" Dwarf King Garan asked far too many questions that the shaman had expected.
In the end, an Elder Shaman used his cane to lightly knock on the king of the dwarf’s head and made him let go of his apprentice.
"You brute. Don’t you know what kind of strength you possess!?" The old shaman said.
Feeling the ache on the top of his head, the king of dwarfs finally calmed down and realized what he had just done. Seeing the defensive young beastman, he felt guilty and immediately lowered his head.
"Sorry. I was harsh! I failed to control myself," Dwarf King Garan said with his head lowered before the young shaman.
"It’s alright. I wasn’t hurt," said the young shaman.
The old shaman seems to have been treating warriors who can tolerate their pain and even move despite their wounds bleeding. He pulled the dwarf king back to his bed and checked on his wound.
Tsk!
"You truly don’t care about your body! Do you still think you are still young, Garan!?" The old shaman scolded. It seems that these two were an old acquaintance.
The King of Dwarf Garan recognized the old shaman who is a cat beastman.
"Aunt Nian, you are still alive!?" The Dwarf King Garan exclaimed about standing up again only to be hit on the top of his head.
The old shaman, a cat beastman called Nian, used to be a wandering doctor. When she was still a bit young she used to love adventures and bump into young men like Garan before.
The cat beastman, Nian, said, "So that rude elf brat who used to be with you didn’t come with you? You should have just dragged that tsundere over. It is better to be alive than..."
"That’s not possible, Aunt Nian. Valerian is the Elf King who has gone crazy. There is no way he can come with me," said Dwarf King Garan.
His whole demeanor including his aura and face turned gloomy when his friends, Valerian, this elf king was mentioned. When he and Valerian are still teenagers, the two of them used to go on adventures and meet all kinds of races. Maybe it was due to this experience that they had become candidates to the throne when they got older and eventually sat on it. It’s just that the ending of both of them were different.
One was controlled by the enemy becoming the alliance’s villain and he becomes the one he is supposed to kill but chooses not to do so. It seems that the last good thing Valerian had done before he lost himself. Just thinking that this friend of his can no longer become normal and he had lost him forever, Dwarf King Garan couldn’t help but curse the villain in his heart.
"If not for that bastard Gu Ying, this wouldn’t be happening at all!" The King of Dwarf shouted in anger.
Now not only had he lost his long time friend, Valerian, his kingdom, the underground dwarf king, the most original territory of the dwarfs had fallen. His brethren had lost not only their loved ones but also their home and land. Just thinking all of this made Garan feel so useless.
His people even choose his life over theirs, is that even equal? At least for him, it is better if had just died in that war on their land. At least he can proudly say that he had died for his people and land.
The old shaman and the young one looked at each other as if they didn’t know what they should be doing right now. The old one can only gesture to the young one to inform the family of the patient that he had woken up. As soon as the young one had left, the old Cat Beastman shaman pats the back of the Dwarf King Garan.
"Cry out. Right now, see yourself as just an ordinary dwarf without responsibilities as a king. You need not to be too hard on yourself. Even a king is just a person who has his own family and friends. Go on. Only this old thing is watching." The old shaman whispered.
As if given permission, the usually strong Dwarf King was now shedding tears. No one knows if these are tears for his friend, for fallen kingdom or for his fallen brethren. Maybe all of the above. The pain is simply so unbearable that Dwarf King Garan felt extreme fatigue and the pressure on him now loosen as the first drop of his tears had fallen. Like a dam that had let go, the tears fell uncontrollably that even if he held back his cries, sounds of whimpering still resounded in the area.
"Thank you old lady!"
It took awhile for the king of dwarfs to finally stop crying. His eyes were swollen enough that the old shaman had given him two eggs to use on his eyes and ease the swelling. By the time his family and people had arrived, his swelling eyes had faded a lot. Only the old shaman had seen his lowest state.
"Watch for your wounds. Most of it has closed up but the inside is still a bit raw and needs more time for complete healing. You are not allowed to train while healing, this includes running, light sparring or whatever. Stay on your damn bed, brat!" The cat beastman old shaman said.
The Dwarf King Garan said, "I know, Old lady. Don’t lose your temper. I haven’t done anything yet!"
"Better not to do anything until you are healed!" The old shaman retorted.
Finally, the young shaman had returned. This time it wasn’t only the wife and children of Garan who had arrived but also the rest of the dwarfs who had survived the ordeal of them almost being exterminated by the human race.
The old shaman upon seeing the family members of the patient decided to take her leave with her disciple. " Garan, don’t forget your medicines. This old one will take on you again this evening."
"Thank you, Elder Shaman Nian. Shaman Nia!" The wife of Dwarf King Garan said. She knew these two shamans as they were the ones who were looking after her husband ever since he arrived in this forest.
The two shamans took their leave letting the family reunite.
Upon seeing the fate of his wife and children, he felt guilt. The King of Dwarfs knew that they were most likely the one who had handled everything in their race while he is bedridden. According to the old lady, the situation with his race is not too good. They felt that they had lost their chance for a better life when they saw that the Elves led by Elf Vera was accepted by the beastmen race as their vassal and now lives in the inner region unlike them who can only stay at the outer region.
The dwarves felt envious, both the elves and dwarves had suffered the most in this war. How come the elves got a better ending just because their former king had a relationship with the beastmen race. They also got along with the beastmen race, how due to the lack of leader in their group, they can hardly make a final decision.
Dwarf King Garan looks at his slightly thin wife and hugs her, "You’ve done well. Thank you, leave the rest to me, wife!"
"Hm. The group wanted to become vassal to the beastmen race but I do not have such authority within the race and can barely make them listen to me. Husband, we also want to live in the inner region. Leaving in the outer region which is too close to the walls feels dangerous." The dwarf queen said.
The children around them also agreed.
"Don’t worry. I will request an audience with the royal family of the beastman race and request for vassalship. Tell everyone to bear with it for a bit longer. I still need to think about what we can offer before they can agree to our surrender. After all, we had already denied this relationship once," Dwarf King Garan said.
The Dwarf Queen sighed, "But that isn’t your fault. It was the elders who didn’t want to surrender. Because of that look what had happened to us. Our kingdom had fallen and lost our home. With ongoing war out there, we cannot just stay divided."
"I know. Don’t worry. I will have to explain it to our people first before asking for vassalship and making them realize that even if we become the vassal of the beastmen race we will never be on the same level as the elves who follow Elf Vera. They must understand the situation first." Dwarf King Garan said. "Summon everyone. I will tell them everything they must know first."
