The morning of the next day, Xie Hei brought everyone back to his territory, the Dark Rainforest. Even though he is in his human form riding Xie Yun’s back as he pointed out the way was enough to deter the other beasts living in this place. Xie Hei didn’t have any servants or any other beasts that served under him. They would just leave some offering to his place and they would be allowed to stay in his place.
However, Xie Hei in his real body is determined not to stay in the forest to leave. At the same time he is not willing to give this sanctuary to anyone. He had to talk to one of the Beast Kings to temporarily give it away. He had chosen the timid black turtle beast king as the one who would temporarily take over his place.
After the Black Turtle Beast King agreed, Xie Hei allowed the humans to sweep the beast eggs in the dark rainforest and the haul they got is greater than what they calculated. Even if they returned to the human lands after leaving the Dark Rainforest they are very willing to do so. However, they still decided to stay for another week as Long Juedi hasn’t completely explored the cheat map that was given to him by the Ancient Gods.
Following the lead of Xie Hei and Xie Yun, Long Huang and the people under the two factions had entered the Dark Rainforest. Normally, entering a Beast King’s sanctuary is no different from declaring war. However, if led by its owner there shall not be any war between the two races.
Xie Hei had allowed them to build the camp within the rainforest and in the safe zone where he used to reside. In this area, no other beasts would dare to enter.
"Lao Long, I need to check into my cave. You are free to stay in this area. No beasts would dare to approach you here," said Xie Hei. "Feel free to roam around this rainforest just do not come out of it. Beyond my territory is the Black Turtle Beast King’s lake. Do not step in there and as it might start war between races."
Long Huang nodded his head at Xie Hei and said, "Then I will thank Lord Xie for this opportunity. I will warn everyone not to get beyond the forest."
"Then please excuse me for a bit," said Xie Hei and headed to the only cave near this location.
Except for Xie Yun no one dares to follow after. After all, that’s the Beast King that rules this Dark Rainforest. Inside the cave, Xie Hei abruptly stops and stares at the forest’s towering tree swaying by the wind.
Xie Yun asked, "Is there a problem master?"
"Assassins trail us here. I’m afraid they might do something and involve that silly turtle. He might be silly and slow but he is territorial. Kill them before they do something. In this forest covered in shadow you are peerless," said Xie Hei as he rubs the head of his disciple who is now using his former body as the Black Jaguar Beast King.
Xie Yun said, "Okay, Master. Leave them to me~" he blended with his own shadows and disappeared on the spot. Clearly, he intended to hide in the shadows and sneak behind those intruders hiding within the forest.
On the other hand, Xie Hei heads deeper to his cave to check on that thing that made his strength as the Beast King powerful. At the end of the cave is a fist size silver colored stone. It looks like an egg but blood like a vein in crimson shade. There is a pulse as if it was breathing and alive. However, Xie Hei knew that this is simply a stone as he handled it countless times as the Black jaguar Beast King.
Xie Hei mumbles while looking at this breathing stone. "I came to take this away but seeing it again. This stone is truly eerie."
He was about to reach out for it but hesitated at the last moment. Xie Hei decided to wait for Xie Yun to return. The uneasiness he felt is greater as a human than as a beast. He had a feeling that this stone was the thing that caused mild insanity to the beast, making them short tempered, murderous and temperamental. Because of this the relationship between the beast and human races had ended in such an ugly way in which even war cannot be undone.
When Xie Yun had returned, the scent of blood lingered on him. His master Xie Hei didn’t mind the smell and hugged him.
Xie Hei said, "Yun’er, you are back. How is it? Are there too many of them?"
"Just a bit. As expected they are the traitors that left the Killer Pavilion with Shadow that day. They aren’t that weak but not that powerful as well. It might not be the main group led by Shadow," Xie Yun said.
Xie Hei said, "Don’t worry. As long as everyone worked together."
It was until Xie Yun noticed the eerie stone at the distance. Likewise, his reaction to it is different from how he felt it was dangerous. He was attracted to it. It was as if something was calling him to grab it and give him the power he desires.
Xie Hei noticed his beast’s reaction and was stunned for a moment seeing that he was walking towards the stone. He immediately felt something was wrong when he saw Xie Yun’s dazed gaze who only had that stone in his line of sight. He immediately grabbed him to stop whatever he wanted to do.
"Stop! Yun’er! Yun’er, wake up! This is not a good thing!!"
"Mine. This is mine. Power. Give me more power which I desire!"
Xie Hei heard these words come out of Xie Yun’s mouth. It was at this moment that he finally realized that this stone attracts beasts to it. He immediately pulled Xie Yun into the darkness and brought him out of the cave. Only when they were away from the cave that housed the stone, that Xie Yun had snapped out of it.
They fell into the river where the Black Turtle Beast King resides. The owner of the river comes out after feeling the familiar presence of Xie Hei. Seeing a huge black turtle coming out of the river, Xie Hei and Xie Yun hurriedly head for the shore. They were soaked all over when the Black Turtle Beast King appeared.
"Jaguar? What are you doing in my home?" The Black Turtle Beast King was staring at the Black Jaguar Beast King, but that body houses Xie Yun’s soul instead of Xie Hei.
Xie Hei spoke up, "Oi! I am here."
"Ah~ right you’ve exchanged vessels. I am not used to it. So what happened to you? This is the first time I saw you fall out of the shadow realm this sloppy." the Black Turtle Beast King said.
With a serious expression, Xie Hei said, "Turtle. Do you remember that breathing stone the four of us had split to each other?"
"Oh? Yes.That disgusting thing is hidden in my place. What’s wrong with it?" Asked the Black Turtle Beast King.
Xie Hei warned, "Do not touch it for now. It had a weird attraction to the beast and I had an inkling this thing might be the one that had caused us to feel hatred towards humans and the kind that makes one go crazy for it. My Yun’er had almost gone insane from just staring at it. It’s a dangerous item. Stay away from it. When we meet those gods again we can ask for their help."
"Alright. You are the sharpest when it comes to sensing danger. I will not approach that stone in my place," promised the Black Turtle Beast King.
Xie Hei said, "Also there is something I wanted to ask you. I will be leaving with Xie Yun to check the human side. I don’t know when I will come back. Can you temporarily take over my sanctuary?"
"But your place is dark and scary~" The Black Turtle said. "The kind of place where ghosts might pop out or not."
Hahaha~
"Still so timid. You don’t need to stay inside, just walk over it and leave a temporary mark to deter the beast living in it and so I can leave without problems," Xie Hei, the former Black Jaguar Beast King said.
Sigh~
"So you are truly leaving? Alright. I will at least visit that place once and leave my scent that way no other beast will covet it while you are gone," said the Black Turtle Beast King. "I am going to pass the words about those eerie stones to Dragon and Monkey. I’m going back to my nest now." The Black Turtle Beast King said as the two watched the huge turtle descending to the depths of the river.
