Chapter 3766 - 3757: Fishing Methods
Chapter 3766: Chapter 3757: Fishing Methods
"Huh..."
Lin Yi muttered, "Why does something feel off about what you just said."
"What I mean is this thing has to be done, no matter what."
"Now you’re making things hard for me. This is a gamble to begin with, how can you demand a guaranteed win."
"I don’t care, figure it out yourself."
"Uh... fine."
Lin Yi hung up and played with the phone in his hand.
In Liu Hong’s words, Lin Yi heard the subtext.
For a long time now, Liu Hong had been in charge of the concrete affairs of the Central Guards Brigade. No question, he was a damn good leader—always thought from his men’s perspective and wouldn’t make brain-dead decisions.
But what he was asking today was clearly a bit unreasonable, which meant there had to be something else behind it.
The core of this matter was a bet. If they won, everything was negotiable; if they lost, all their effort would be for nothing.
But there is one way to win every bet: cheat.
If no one comes to steal it, you just find someone yourself.
Lin Yi rubbed his chin and smiled. The nasty tricks in Boss Liu’s belly were in no way less than his own.
But thinking it over, if they really wanted to do this, only Song Jinmin was suitable.
But unless it was absolutely necessary, Song Jinmin couldn’t be used.
Lin Yi chuckled. With something this big, the Overseas Organizations were never going to sit on their hands. All he had to do was wait and enjoy the show.
"Boss."
Just then, Sui Qiang’s voice came. Lin Yi saw the people from the Eighth Team coming out together with Ning Che.
"Boss, where are we going now?" Zhang Chaoyue said, "Heading back to the brigade?"
"You guys go back first, I’ve still got something else to do."
"Got it."
Lin Yi had originally planned to go see Liang Xianghe after dropping the kid off.
But this incident had delayed him a bit, so now he had to head over.
"Our car will be here soon, I’ll have someone drive you over," Ning Che said.
"No need, I’ll just grab a cab."
After saying his goodbyes, Lin Yi was about to leave when Chen Zhengnan walked over.
"Yo, all of you are here."
Seeing Chen Zhengnan come over, the Central Guards Brigade people all pulled long faces.
At this point they didn’t even bother pretending anymore; they didn’t so much as look at him.
Chen Zhengnan didn’t take it to heart and didn’t care about the Central Guards Brigade people at all. He walked straight toward Lin Yi.
"Mr. Lin, where are you off to? I’ve still got something to discuss with you."
"What is it?" Lin Yi said with a smile.
"The Sheepskin Scroll you brought back from the Yucatán Peninsula has already been handed over to Dragon Eagle. I was thinking we could go do a handover together—after all, we’re all old acquaintances," Chen Zhengnan said with a grin.
At those words, Ning Che and the Eighth Team all stared wide-eyed at Lin Yi.
"Come on, it’s not that serious. Something this small and Dragon Eagle can’t handle it themselves?" Lin Yi smiled and said,
"If Dragon Eagle is lacking in this area, our Central Guards Brigade can help escort it."
"How could that be necessary? Since you’ve got things to do, go take care of them. We can handle this ourselves."
Having taken advantage, Chen Zhengnan wasn’t upset. He turned to look at the Eighth Team.
"You guys in the Eighth Team really are tight with each other. Team Leader Lin actually handed over the Sheepskin Scroll for your sake. You’d better work hard from now on and not let Team Leader Lin down."
The Eighth Team said nothing. They all wanted to figure out what was going on, but with Chen Zhengnan standing here, this wasn’t the time to ask.
"Since you’ve got things to do, get to them. I’ve got a handover to attend."
With that, Chen Zhengnan swaggered off.
"Boss, what’s going on? How did you end up giving them the Sheepskin Scroll?" Sui Qiang asked.
A mysterious smile tugged at the corner of Lin Yi’s mouth. "You can’t go fishing without bait. What else would you use to hook them?"
Though he didn’t spell it out, the Eighth Team already understood what Lin Yi meant.
This wasn’t a shot in the dark; he was doing it on purpose.
"I’m heading out. You guys focus on your own tasks. This period is special—keep a tight watch on everyone from the Fifth to Eighth Teams. Nothing can be allowed to happen. Whether we can hold the face of the Central Guards Brigade depends on you."
"Understood."
Leaving that instruction, Lin Yi took a cab to Liang Xianghe’s place.
This time he didn’t buy pure milk, because he saw someone selling curios along the road.
After haggling, he spent twenty yuan on a pair of walnuts and brought them for Liang Xianghe.
At the moment, Liang Xianghe was in the yard sunning himself, playing chess with an old man Lin Yi didn’t know.
When he arrived, Lin Yi didn’t interrupt. He stood to the side and waited for them to finish the game.
The old man playing chess with Liang Xianghe apparently didn’t know Lin Yi. When he saw him, he only nodded, which counted as a greeting.
After they finished the game, Liang Xianghe ended the match. The two old men even agreed to play gateball together in a few days. Retirement life was pretty laid-back.
Once the old man left, Lin Yi sat down opposite Liang Xianghe.
"Check out the new toy I got you."
Liang Xianghe opened the box and saw a pair of walnuts inside.
He took them out, glanced at them, then tossed the walnuts away and kept the box.
"Hey, hey, hey, now that’s on you."
"That pair of walnuts of yours costs, at most, five yuan. Three of those are for the box. You’d be better off buying me some pure milk."
Liang Xianghe said, "That pair your son smashed before was worth over two hundred thousand. And you bring me this piece of junk, trying to fool me? You really think I don’t know anything?"
The orderly standing nearby couldn’t help but snicker.
In this world, he was probably the only one who dared to do this.
"It’s the thought that counts, not the price. Why are you always talking money? Makes me sound stingy."
"Do the math yourself on how much you made shorting this time, and you bring me this crap?"
"Alright, I’ll buy you a good one next time."
"Little Zhang, go return the chessboard," Liang Xianghe said to his orderly.
"Yes, sir!"
The orderly, very tactful, left with the chessboard—when he’d be back was anyone’s guess.
Grinning, Lin Yi poured Liang Xianghe a cup of tea and said,
"Old man, you should be aware of the Dragon Eagle situation by now, right?"
"I am. But what you’re doing carries a big risk. If anything goes wrong, the secret of the Sheepskin Scroll could leak."
Lin Yi chuckled. He knew exactly what Liang Xianghe meant.
Since he hadn’t stepped in to stop him, that was tacit approval.
"There isn’t any real big secret on the Sheepskin Scroll from the Yucatán Peninsula. Even if it does leak, it won’t have much impact on the overall situation. Using it as bait is just right."
Liang Xianghe sipped his tea, fell silent for a moment, then said,
"Can you guarantee they’ll definitely bite?"
"Old man, that’s where you’re thinking about it wrong." Lin Yi chuckled, looking downright sly, and lowered his voice:
"Our real goal isn’t to catch fish; it’s to make the fisherman happy. So there are two ways. One, the fish bites on its own. If that doesn’t work, we get in the river ourselves and hang a fish on his hook for him."
