Chapter 167 - 167 Haven
167 Haven
The rain grew heavier, but everyone was silent so as not to disturb the memorial service.
A long time passed. Half of Lian Jing’s body was completely drenched. The coat that he used to shelter them started to drip, and the raindrops fell into Shen Yin’s collar. The cold broke her trance.
She looked at Lian Jing apologetically. “I’m sorry. I took too long and caused you to get drenched in the rain.”
“There’s no need to say such things.” Lian Jing smiled to show that it did not matter. He continued to stand behind Shen Yin like a sheltering bulwark. He stopped smiling and said seriously, “Do you have anything you want say to your Grandpa?”
Shen Yin was surprised. She had not expected him to ask her such a question. Looking at this man’s drenched clothes, she smiled and shook her head. “I’ve said everything that I wanted to say. Let’s go home.”
Shen Nian tugged at her hand and comforted her softly. “Mom, Great-Grandpa will definitely be happy to see you living happily now.”
Shen Yin nodded and took his hand with a smile. She took one last look at her grandfather’s tombstone and hid under Lian Jing’s coat. The family of three rushed into the wet darkness, laughing as they held hands and ran to the car parked at the entrance of the cemetery.
The rain blew sideways into their jackets. They lost all restrain and freely chased each other and played in the rain.
When they entered the car, the three of them were already drenched.
Lian Jing turned on the car heater and took some tissue from the glove box. Seeing Shen Yin and Shen Nian sitting in the back seat laughing hysterically, the corners of his lips subconsciously curled up. “What are you laughing about? You’re already drenched, yet you’re still laughing like fools. Hurry up and wipe up the water or it’ll drip into your eyes.”
After being reprimanded, Shen Yin and Shen Nian looked at each other. Then, they winked at Lian Jing mischievously and said in unison, “You’re so naggy.”
“Alright, you two heartless creatures. I’ve sheltered you from the rain for you for nothing.” Lian Jing angrily flung the tissues into the back seat. However, his smile grew wider. He did not seem angry at all.
Shen Yin and Shen Nian sat at the back and held back their laughter. They took the tissues and wiped their faces and hair. Only then did they feel the cold and they could not help but shiver.
Lian Jing looked at the two of them in the rear view mirror and smirked mockingly. “Now you’re cold? I told you not to run around just now.”
Despite his words, Lian Jing stepped on the accelerator and sped home.
Shen Yin shivered as she looked at the scene outside the car window. She said anxiously, “Slow down. It’s alright. It’s raining so heavily. It’s not safe to drive too fast.”
Lian Jing imitated her and successfully shut Shen Yin’s mouth by saying, “So naggy.”
When they arrived at the Lian residence, the butler was waiting at the door with an umbrella. When he saw the car drive into the courtyard, he hurriedly held the umbrella and came out to meet them.
Just as he was about to give them the umbrellas in his hand, he saw that the three of them were already drenched. He hurriedly held the umbrella over them and quickly got the servants to fill the bathtubs with hot water.
The butler was afraid that they would catch a cold, so he quickly made arrangements. “President Lian, Miss Shen, Young Master, go take a shower. I’ll get someone to make ginger soup and send it to you later.”
Lian Jing nodded. He held his son’s hand and they went to the room together to take a shower.
Shen Yin looked at the backs of the two men, one big and one small, and her heart softened. She hurriedly took a hot shower and suddenly felt like seeing Lian Jing. Her heart was pounding.
When she went downstairs, the ginger soup was just ready. The butler saw her when he walked out of the kitchen. He smiled and said, “Miss Shen, you came at the right time. Drink it while it’s hot or you might catch a cold.”
Shen Yin picked up the hot bowl and asked casually, “What about them?”
“Them?” The butler was stunned for a moment before reacting. He smiled and said, “I don’t think they’re done showering. Miss Shen, do you want to personally deliver the ginger soup to President Lian?”
Shen Yin’s mouth had been scalded by the hot ginger soup. Her cheeks were as pink as cooked shrimp, and steam was rising from her head. She looked away in panic. “I… I had better not.”
If she delivered the soup, she might see Lian Jing just after his shower, with nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist.
Her face was burning hot as she finished the ginger soup. She did not know if it was the ginger soup or something else, but she was sweating.
She ran upstairs in a panic and saw the father and son chatting happily as they walked towards her.
When Lian Jing saw her, he was stunned for a moment. He walked up to her and asked earnestly, “Why is your face so red? Do you have a fever?”
As he spoke, he raised his hand to touch her forehead to check her temperature. Shen Yin hurriedly took a big step back. Seeing that he was wearing a full set of pajamas and completely covered, she instantly heaved a sigh of relief, but still felt a twinge of disappointment.
What was she disappointed about?
Shen Yin asked herself that, but she could not think of a reason.
Seeing that her face was getting suspiciously red, even Shen Nian looked over worriedly. “Mom, are you really sick? You need to take medicine if you’re sick.”
“I don’t need medicine.” Shen Yin hurriedly shook her head and refused. She wanted to bypass the father and son and hurry back to her room, but her legs would not listen to her. Her back was covered in sticky sweat, making her feel very uncomfortable.
