Chapter 714: I Didn’t Bother You. You Bumped into Me.
“I didn’t ask your name, alright?” Nian Xi found him both funny and annoying. “And, why ask me to call you Ning? It sounds so intimate.”
Jiang Yuning pressed his thin lips together and fell into silence.
“I need to work.” Nian Xi waved a hand and said, “Don’t bother me.” After saying that, she turned and walked into her office.
Jiang Yuning spent a short while gazing at her back, then he silently followed behind her. Hearing his footsteps, Nian Xi turned back and then bumped straight into his chest. Her nose hurt, and her eyes were immediately filled with tears.
Jiang Yuning lowered his head to look at her. Teardrops sparkled in her dark eyes. The tears wet her eyelashes and glistened like the ocean in sunlight. They even dazzled his eyes.
“Why are you still following me?” Nian Xi felt so annoyed. “I told you not to bother me.”
A slight trace of grievance flashed in Jiang Yuning’s eyes as he wrote, I didn’t bother you. You bumped into me.
“Would I have bumped into you if you weren’t following me?” asked Nian Xi impatiently.
Jiang Yuning lowered his head. He looked like someone who had been treated badly. Nian Xi rubbed her own forehead. Looking at him, she even suffered a headache. She wanted to be hard-hearted to him, yet still, her heart couldn’t help but soften. “You can’t come to me every time you’re lost, can you?”
Jiang Yuning silently raised his head to give her a glance. Nian Xi didn’t know what to do. With no better choice, she sat behind her desk and started typing while eating. She could always sense a gaze that was fixed on her. She raised her head and found Jiang Yuning sitting on the couch in her office, staring at her pancake. Noticing that Nian Xi was looking at him, he blinked and then stiffly turned his eyes away.
“Don’t tell me that you didn’t even have dinner,” Nian Xi said.
Jiang Yuning hesitated for a few seconds, then nodded.
Nian Xi pointed at the outside and said, “Turn right at the entrance of the police station. You’ll find a pancake stall. I bought this from there. Go.”
Jiang Yuning stayed motionless.
“Don’t tell me that you have no money.” Nian Xi couldn’t help but frown.
Jiang Yuning shook his head.
“Alright, I’ll lend you money for the pancake, but you’ll have to pay me back ten times more.”
Jiang Yuning’s eyes glowed slightly as he nodded. Nian Xi took out ten yuan and handed it to him. Jiang Yuning walked out with the cash. Nian Xi watched him leave, then lowered her head to continue typing. After finishing, she raised her head and found that 15 minutes had passed.
Jiang Yuning still hadn’t come back.
How long would it take to buy a pancake? He wasn’t lost again, was he? Her heart missed a beat. She remembered Nian Junting had said that his assistant seemed to carry a gun, so she guessed that he might be working for the government. As a police officer, she figured that she needed to protect him, more or less. She hurriedly stood up and headed out of the police station.
After two minutes of walking, she saw Jiang Yuning walking over, holding a large pancake. He carried another pancake in his other hand. He was so pretty that he looked like a walking piece of art instead of a man who was carrying two pancakes.
“You…” As he walked closer, Nian Xi clearly saw the pancakes in his hands. There were eggs, ham, potato shreds, and lettuce with those pancakes. The ten yuan that she gave him shouldn’t have been enough for even one of these luxurious pancakes.
Seeing Nian Xi, Jiang Yuning’s eyes glowed as he handed her the extra pancake.
“Can you buy so much with ten yuan?” Nian Xi was confused.
Jiang Yuning nodded.
Nian Xi couldn’t believe it. “I just bought one, with only an egg. But the stall owner charged me twelve.”
