Chapter 1490 - Today Is The Lantern Festival
Chapter 1490: Today Is The Lantern Festival
Jiang Yuning gave her a strange look after hearing her words. “Aliens are too far away from us. If you really want to see them, you might be able to after a few thousand or million years.”
Nian Xi blanched. “No, thank you, I don’t want to see them at all. Can you bring my clothes over? I want to get dressed.”
Jiang Yuning was embarrassed at the fact that he only just remembered that she had not gotten dressed yet. He hurriedly brought some clothes to her. She had no problem putting on the shirt herself, but because her leg was injured, there was no way she could put on the pants.
Although he had been helping her the entire week, he still felt embarrassed every single time. He felt that since he had seen almost all of Nian Xi, it would be ludicrous if he didn’t marry her in this lifetime. “Xixi, when I’m back from Rome… let’s meet my parents.”
He stammered out.
Nian Xi looked up at him. His clear eyes were filled with anticipation.
“Alright,” she said after a moment’s thought.
After getting dressed, she watched some television while Jiang Yuning did her laundry for her. Even her undergarments were scrubbed clean.
Although Nian Xi was lazy, she had always washed her own undergarments. However, due to her current situation, he was the one washing all of her things for her. His actions had indeed touched her.
Luosang had said that that was the time to test him. Although she couldn’t contact him in time the day she was injured, his progress since then would definitely be awarded the highest grades.
Another day had passed, just like all the other days before.
It was the next morning.
When Nian Xi woke up, Jiang Yuning had already left her side.
She walked out with her crutch. Hearing movement, Jiang-Jiang immediately ran out of the kitchen, barking. Jiang Yuning also followed behind hurriedly while frowning, “Why did you walk out by yourself without calling me first? Hurry up and sit down.”
“Stop overreacting. I’m fine if I lean on my crutch.” Nian Xi covered her mouth to yawn as she asked, “What are you making?”
“I’m cooking Tangyuan—it’s the Lantern Festival today,” Jiang Yuning said with a smile.
“Where did the Tangyuan come from?”
“Uncle Han delivered some this morning.”
Nian Xi was speechless.
Uncle Han worked really hard.
Fifteen minutes later, Jiang Yuning carried over a bowl of Tangyuan, as well as some toast. The toast was topped with cheese, evaporated milk, and egg. The food tasted delicious.
Nian Xi had to admit that his cooking had improved tremendously. “We’ll be going to the mansion to celebrate the Lantern Festival today. Let’s drop by the supermarket later—we can’t go empty-handed.”
She only just finished talking when a call came from Captain Chen. “The perpetrator died in prison last night.”
Nian Xi was shocked as she quickly swallowed the Tangyuan. “Suicide?”
“I’m not sure. His corpse was sent to the forensics department for an autopsy.” Captain Chen continued, “He died quite peacefully, and the police only found out the next morning. There wasn’t any injury on his body—he looked as if he died from overdosing on sleeping pills. But how could he possibly acquire items like that while in prison? It’s really strange.”
Nian Xi agreed that it was indeed strange. “Perhaps he has some illness that we’re unaware of. It’s unlikely that he would take his own life since he wasn’t sentenced to death. He also had some mental illness, so he could’ve just been sent to a mental hospital.”
Captain Chen fell silent for a moment before saying, “I hope so. Anyway… I hope this wasn’t a case of revenge. After all, even if a policeman is injured along the way, we must still follow the law.”
“Captain Chen, what are you trying to say?” Nian Xi sensed a double entendre in his words.
“When your brother visited the last time, I told him that the perpetrator was mentally ill, so the judge might show some compassion and give a lighter sentence. Your brother got really angry and said that he wouldn’t let that guy off so easy.” Captain Chen sighed. “To be honest, knowing what your brother is capable of, killing that guy is probably…”
