Chapter 144 - Digging Your Own Grave (2)
Chapter 144: Digging Your Own Grave (2)
“What?” Zhao Youxi was dumbfounded. For a moment, she was unable to react.
Zhao Shunrong’s hawkish eyes narrowed abruptly. His gaze was as sharp as a blade, shooting directly toward Zhao Youxi. “I’m asking you, you’re just a deputy director of the development department, what rights do you have to object to the company’s personnel deployment?”
Zhao Shunrong’s gaze sent a chill down Zhao Youxi’s spine, though she still tried her best to maintain the calm on her face. She took a deep breath and said assertively, “President, even though I’m just a deputy director of the development department and I don’t have the right to interfere with an important matter like personnel deployment, but for the sake of the company’s future, I have to speak out about certain things.”
Zhao Youxi bit her lips. She ignored the crowd’s astonished yet slightly unimpressed stares as she looked at Zhao Youlin, who was standing next to Zhao Shunrong and said, “As we all know, the general manager is known as one of the most powerful executives in the company other than the president. Such an important role should be filled by an experienced and powerful individual, not a completely inexperienced person who’s moderately attractive but lacks virtue. Therefore, I’m venturing to ask you to take the future of the company into account and consider carefully about this matter, President. Don’t let your personal emotion affect your judgment, which could result in irreversible consequences.”
Zhao Youxi’s statement sounded high-sounding indeed, which fully demonstrated the phony characteristic she had inherited from her mother. Though it was a pity that she was not good enough, her words were counterproductive.
Zhao Youxi raised her head high after saying that. She had this generous look on her face like she did everything for the sake of the company.
Though she did not know that after hearing what she said, the crowd in the room did not feel touched at all, instead, they thought she was being ridiculous.
‘Is this woman humiliating the president indirectly and blaming him for placing a useless loser in the company?’
‘Speaking of which, how does this woman know that the new general manager is completely inexperienced?’
Oh right, how could they forget? This so-called deputy director of the development department seemed to be a family member of the president too. It appeared that she was the daughter of the president’s brother.
‘Since the new general manager is the president’s daughter, technically, they are cousins, aren’t they? So what’s going on here? The cousins are competing for attention? Is this a family strife?’
‘Even if they really have a grudge against each other, acting it out in front of so many people, especially in front of the general manager’s father, is this woman digging her own grave?’
The most ludicrous thing was that, if she really wanted to talk about the person who lacked virtue and was the one occupying good positions in the company despite being incompetent, the one in front of them and the other idle person in her department could be considered as the perfect examples.
Just because she was moderately beautiful, she had been winking flirtatiously to seduce men. She had been flirty with many men at the company. Many girls in the company could not stand her actions and have been annoyed by her for a long time, yet this woman had little self-consciousness. She should have reflected on her own behavior before she criticized others. She was simply embarrassing herself.
Zhao Youxi felt so good about herself that she did not notice the hostility beneath the eyes of the people around her. Zhao Youlin, however, took everything in. Without saying anything, she was going to quietly watch the former dig her own grave.
There were such people in the world. They could have gotten along peacefully. As long as she did not mess with her, she would not go head-to-head with her like she had nothing better to do. Yet Zhao Youxi just had to make trouble and dig her own grave, and she kept trying to jump into it. Who else could she blame but herself?
“Are you questioning the company and the chairman’s decision?” Zhao Shunrong stared fixedly at Zhao Youxi for a while and frowned, seemingly unwilling to talk with this eccentric woman.
Because of Li Hongyu, this child of his brother and a woman from outside never once left him a good impression. Seeing that she was picking on Zhao Youlin, he disliked her more now.
Zhao Shunrong’s protection of his family was always demonstrated to the fullest. It was Duan Yarong before, and it was Zhao Youlin now. Other than him, he would not allow anyone else to criticize his family, not even a word!
Zhao Youxi was stunned for a second when she heard him mention chairman. The crowd in the meeting room was shocked as well.
Zhao Enterprise’s chairman, who was also the old master of Zhao family, had been relegated to the second-tier of the company as he had come to the age of retirement. He rarely showed up at the company. Because of his vigorous and aggressive styles on the board back then, added with the great achievements he did for Zhao Enterprise, he had accumulated influence in Zhao Enterprise. He was such a reputable figure. If he wanted to replace the current president, no one would dare to say anything, let alone when it came to appointing a general manager.
Zhao Youxi’s expression distorted instantly, mixed with excessive resentment and jealousy. She murmured subconsciously, “Appointing her as a general manager in the company was grandpa’s decision? How is this possible? How is this possible? How dare she? How dare she?”
Zhao Shunrong coldly cast a glance at her in displeasure. It was really annoying that she was still in denial at this point.
Zhao Shunrong impatiently shifted his gaze to the others on the side and said in a deep voice, “What about you guys? Do you want to object too?”
The crowd in the meeting room was stupefied as they did not expect that he would turn the question to them. They shook their heads in panic after they came around and expressed that they would do their best to assist Zhao Youlin so that she could adapt to the company as soon as possible.
At this moment, Zhao Youxi finally noticed something was wrong. When she raised her head, as far as she could see, no one was willing to take her side!
“Since you all have nothing more to say, this matter is settled then. Youlin, come upstairs with me, I’m going to show you your office.”
Zhao Youxi had wanted to say something else, but the cold gaze that had was shot suddenly at her by Zhao Shunrong managed to shut her up.
Zhao Youlin, who had remained silent since she greeted everyone, smiled lightly and responded, “Okay.”
The two just walked out of the meeting room one after the other. None of them even bothered to spare Zhao Youxi a parting glance.
Zhao Youxi quavered in anger as she looked at the retreating backs of the two, as well as the indifferent expressions of the other onlookers who silently watched her lose her edge.
At that moment, she really felt like she had become the unreasonable buffoon in the eyes of everyone. She was a laughingstock. And those two people were undoubtedly the cause of her embarrassment.
Once she thought of that, Zhao Youxie could feel the rage churning in her chest grow fiercer. It was so intense that it could burn up everything around her.
Her hands clenched tightly into fists. So tightly that even her nails had pierced her flesh, yet she did not even feel it.
At that moment, Zhao Youxi had already been clouded by hatred. The only thing she could think of now was, ‘Zhao Youlin, don’t get carried away. Your happiness won’t long! I’ll make sure of it!”
