Chapter 456: Surging Undercurrents
Chapter 456: Surging Undercurrents
While the three families gathered, the same could also be said to the families that had almost gotten their kids kidnapped.
As families allied to Mine Tech. Industries, they slowly gathered at the branch office in Central City.
Among them, there were a couple of familiar people among them, like the Mayor of Central City and Michael’s uncle, Andrew Scott, that had not appeared for a while since their last family gathering, and accompanying him is his daughter, Alona, who is dressed to the nines.
As the related families slowly trickled in, they made their way inside an underground room below the building, where every ten meters along the way, there are armed guards standing guard, and all of them are armed with high caliber military grade rifles.
Such tight security just shows how important the people had gathered tonight.
Half an hour later, everyone had finally arrived and took their seats around a long table that looked incredibly expensive.
Among these groups of people, the lowest position they hold is a councilman, and they are all seated at the very back.
At the head of the table, there’s a large chair made of wood and over by the table before it, there’s a device that’s showing them a holographic screen of an office, and in the middle of it, there’s a desk with the back of an office chair facing the screen, and looking closely at it, anyone would notice that there’s a person sitting on it.
Like a cliche scene in a movie, the chair slowly turned around to face them, but as everyone had probably expected, the person’s face was hidden in a shroud of darkness.
Most of them were clearly disappointed as they still haven’t seen the face of the person behind the groundbreaking company that created a game that’s treated as a second world for a lot of people on the planet, Fate Online.
“I’m sure everyone of you had received the news of the events that took place yesterday night. Fortunately, nothing bad happened to the children having a retreat on the island, though it was a pity that a few trees got destroyed during the encounter”
The man on the screen spoke, and as expected, his voice was altered.
No one minded as everyone’s attention was more concerned about the findings they had on the people behind the attack.
“Since we’ve all gathered like this in a hurry, does that mean that we finally have some solid evidence over them after suffering multiple attacks from them sir?” asked one of the men inside the room, and the large smile on his face couldn’t be contained at all.
He couldn’t be blamed because they had always been the one on the receiving end of multiple attacks, and even though they know the people behind it, they didn’t have a solid evidence that it was them and could only suffer in silence while living under the umbrella of the company since they didn’t even have the means to attack from the shadows.
For the bigger fishes among the people inside, it wasn’t really a big problem for them as they even had the means to retaliate against their enemies.
Though Mine Tech Industries is clearly influential and powerful and could certainly uproot their enemies if they want to, the owners are still in their rational mind as they didn’t want to start an economic war that would affect millions of people.
What they want is a swift and sure kill attack that their enemies wouldn’t be able to guard against, but the attack on their children tonight had clearly pushed the limit of their bottom lines.
“We do, though we have to give the credit to where it was due, because those bastards probably weren’t expecting that even with their careful nature, those Mercenaries were actually very sly that they were still able to record their dealings with them. Ha! So much for being a family that controls the world!”
Those words were enough to show that they can finally take a breather as a lot of them clenched their fist under the table, and it also made them slightly excited as this is finally the real start of their war.
Now, the Central Government that had been acting as the mediator between the two sides will finally be forced to choose between which sides they’re gonna give their support to.
Will they choose the old money that had always been the one in control or the rising new generation that have been causing waves lately, called the new money?
“And as everyone finally had their suspicions confirmed, it really was those three families that had been launching attacks on us, and now with the ledger containing their dirty dealings on our hands, we can finally start an all out attack against them. I’m sure the President wouldn’t mind if one or two families disappear”
Following those words, the room soon erupted into a tense atmosphere as they discussed their next course of action that would decide a new future for them and the world.
Present day.
Around 1 am in the morning, Sunday.
With a cast around his left arm, Genesis left the inn and started roaming the streets of Hanyang.
“I’m just realizing now that the climate here is even colder than in Central City. It seems like Winter won’t be long”
As he took in the sights around him, Genesis one way or another arrived at an area that’s filled with people and a line of street food stalls where he can’t even see the end of it.
Sniff! Sniff!
Genesis couldn’t help but sniff the air, and the smell of various street foods mixed in the air tickled his appetite.
“I’ve always been curious about the food in this country, and it seems like it won’t disappoint me tonight! This place smells amazing!”
Following his words, this injured man immediately went to order from the nearest stall from him, and after he was done eating, he would go to another stall that’s selling a different kind of food, and this cycle would repeat multiple times.
During that time, the ahjummas would give him extra as they were gratified that a foreigner seems to be enjoying their local specialties without batting an eyelid, especially for the likes of Sundaes that would make anyone scowl for those not used to it or just doesn’t like it.
Though while Genesis was enjoying his time eating a variety of amazing delicacies, his actions had unknowingly attracted a bunch of bad apples around the area and they had been keeping a watch on him since.
“It seems that there would be a lot of bugs tonight” Genesis muttered as he took a mouthful of tteok-bokki.
“Delicious! One more order ahjumma!”
Finishing another order of his tteok-bokki, Genesis couldn’t help but order again as he just can’t get enough of its sweet and spicy taste, especially its chewy and tender texture that reminds him of a pair of rabbits that produces milk.
“Here you go! It’s great that you’re enjoying it, not a lot of people from the West like it” said the Ahjumma to Genesis while handing his order with a huge smile on her face.
“Thank you, really…delicious!”
Obviously, Genesis couldn’t understand what she was saying and only answered with the few Hangul words that he knew, and sometimes, he would just communicate with them using gestures.
