Chapter 454: Old Ghost
Chapter 454: Old Ghost
‘This must be the reason why Genesis is so afraid of meeting this woman. If only I knew this would happen then I would’ve just chosen the other branch. Now, I gotta wait for Genesis’ arm to heal before we can finish our objective of coming here’
Meanwhile, at an underground hospital below the inn.
“Gah! That b*tch doesn’t really hold back!”
Genesis was on a chair cursing with a cast over his left arm while drinking some milkshake he got from somewhere.
He moved the milkshake away from his face and said with a look of amazement, “Damn! This milkshake taste good! At least this place has some good milkshakes!”
He was so loud that the staff of the place was clearly annoyed by him just from looking at those eyes being thrown towards his direction.
Though annoyed by his antics, they didn’t say anything to reprimand him as they are afraid of offending him.
After all, even though they have immunity as long as they are inside the inn, the same couldn’t be said once they are outside the Inn as that would now become a different story altogether.
In other words, no one is stupid enough to do it, and the chance of them dying because of it is particularly high just from things they had witnessed before from former colleagues who didn’t know any better.
While Genesis is enjoying his milkshake while reading through some comics, from the other side of the department comes a pair of heels stepping foot out of the elevator, and along with the sound of heels hitting the floor, the owner of those said heels is heading towards the direction of where Genesis is.
“Mr. Glenard Carter? The lady had instructed me to hand this over to you”
The lady in an office attire whose skirt reaches almost all the way to her knees called out to Genesis the moment she arrived in front of him while handing over a small stack of documents towards him.
Genesis raised his head up while his eyes were still stuck looking at the comic on his lap for a couple of seconds before he finally turned his attention towards the person standing before him.
Annoyed at getting interrupted when he’s at the climax of the story, Genesis asked while frowning, “What’s that?”.
“Information about the people you came here for and some few others you need to take note of” the woman answered with a cold tone, not at the slightest scared of the man before her.
Genesis looked at her, then at the documents at her hands before taking it from her with a click of his tongue.
“Tsk! I wonder how good your branch’s intelligence gathering”
The woman didn’t say anything and just stared at him for a good few seconds before she left without a word, and such actions in Genesis’ eyes were like telling him that talking to him is beneath her.
“Tsk, she’s the same like that witch”
Genesis placed the comic book and his milkshake away and focus his attention on the documents by his lap and started flipping and reading through it,
“Grom Biden..”
“Richard Rothschild…and Kwon Jung-jin. The usual suspects” he uttered under his breath while reading the names on the document.
Then he got onto a particular paragraph that made his eyes go wide in surprise, “Hoh~ they had a secret meeting at the Shangri La Hotel? Those three patriarchs would never meet each other unless it’s something of extreme importance. It’s seems that these three families are once again plotting another sinister event that would result in multiple deaths”
The pot calling the kettle black.
Genesis flipped towards the next page and finally got some good news.
“There’s another secret meeting in two days at one of Jung-jin’s safe houses located in the countryside. A mansion so far away from the civilization and deep in the mountains, they picked a very good place for their burial ground”
Genesis spread the profile of their targets over the table in front of him, while wearing a thoughtful look on his face.
“I really don’t understand rich people living in places so far out from civilization, but they’re really confident, aren’t they? It seems that they’re not even afraid of revenge from Monk as they’re just casually living their lives, throwing business parties and going on vacation with some young chicks. I thought they’d be living like a turtle under their shell, but gee, I wonder where they’re getting their confidence from that they’re still able to live out in the open? Is it because of their money or the power of their family? It’s not like a single bullet wouldn’t be able to end their pathetic lives”
Flipping through another page, Genesis finally understood why those three people are now living such carefree lives.
“Hmm, I see, so they did live a low profile and sheltered life for over a year as they were afraid of the revenge from Monk after what they did to him, though he never appeared all this time. Well, it has been several years after that event though, so they must have thought that he probably died somewhere. Can’t blame them then, we had lived off the grid for many years that people had probably thought we already died or something after several years of disappearance”
Ring! Ring! Ring!
While he was busy going through the files, his phone on the table suddenly rang and when he looked over, he saw that it was Monk calling him.
Picking it up, Genesis answered, “What’s up?”
[Have you read the file?]
“I’m reading through it right now, and they seem to be living well” answered Genesis with a slight smile that looks maniacal.
[Anyway, I called you just to tell you that you won’t be needing to help me since you’re injured, and as the person that caused it, Sun will be helping me instead. So just rest and play, I heard every room of the inn has their own virtual cabins to play virtual games]
There was a short silence between them for a moments before Genesis said, “You know, you really didn’t need to call me to just tell me that when we are under the same roof right now”
[I forgot to mention that we’re no longer at the inn. Sun and I are already on the move to prepare the things we need two days from now. Well, that’s it, take care of yourself while I’m away. Don’t cause any trouble got it?]
Beep!
Call end.
Genesis moved his phone away from his face and looked at it.
“Quite the eager one, isn’t he?”
“Well, I’ll just treat this as a vacation then. I should see if there’s any good place to visit in this city. Don’t wanna get cooped up here for days before we go back”
Meanwhile, along the bridge over the Han River.
There’s a SUV speeding along the road with two familiar people inside.
“Buksan Mountain, a good place for them to die” Monk muttered under his breath with his eyes that kept glinting with coldness and murderous intent.
From the corner of his eye, Monk noticed that Sun seemed to want to say something.
“If you have anything to say, just say it”
Sun smiled, and after a few hesitations, she said, “Then..why are you only taking revenge now when you could have done it a few years ago?”
Monk slowly turned his head towards the window and looked at the passing scenery, and for a moment, he didn’t say anything, and Sun just patiently waited.
“I was severely injured during an encounter with my enemies when I was on my way to save my family. I should have died back then, but the others came in the nick of time and saved me. During my recovery, I woke up to hear about the tragic death that my family had suffered. That day, I swore to take revenge after I fully recovered. At night, I would have nightmares of my dying family calling out to me to save them every single day that it almost drove me mad, but that place, was such a peaceful and beautiful place that it slowly made me forget my promise, and without me noticing, the nightmares slowly disappeared”
Monk was reminiscing about the day when he was still recovering and seeing the smiles of the kids that would come visit him during his stay at that village.
Everyone in that village didn’t treat them like outsiders, but instead, everyone had been so kind and good to them, those people would always wear expressions of happiness on their faces every day that it would make anyone think that the world wasn’t such a dark place.
“No, it was more like I was in denial with what happened that I just chose to forget everything. But hearing what happened to Randy a few days ago, it made me remember. It made me remember why I’m still alive, it made me remember about the people that murdered my family. It made me ashamed that I chose to forget about such a vile thing that happened to them, they didn’t deserve it! They were innocent! So this time..I’m going to finish what I have started! Then, finally… bury the ghost of my old self, so that I will never again…look back”
Monk didn’t say anything after that as silence descended inside the car.
Though a few moments later, Monk opened his mouth and turned to look at Sun and asked.
“What about you? Are there still lingering things that you haven’t finished yet?”
Sun Bin lightly shook her head and replied, “None, I made sure to finish everything before I retired to manage our family inn”
Monk smiled and said, “Good for you”
“…”
Another silence, and it continued to be like that until they reached their destination.
