Chapter 2939 - 2940: The Never Ending Story Of Our Lives

-----

Decades had passed since Kireina reached the Summit of Existence, elevating her entire Reality to become part of the Existence Expanse. With her came billions of people, protected by her Mark of the Root; she elevated them to near-Empyrean Throne levels when necessary, though most of the population retained their original strength, living peacefully in their own universes and dimensions as Kireina had always intended.

In all that time, much had changed.

Kireina's parents, Khaos and Lord Chaos, married after years of dating and truly coming to know one another. Khaos persuaded Kireina's father to disband the Chaos Gate as a criminal group and reform it into a benevolent clan dedicated to protecting Earth. Lord Chaos had largely shed his old destructive ways, though every so often the urge to destroy resurfaced; he would slip away to the Heavenly Dimensional Domains meant for consumption and obliterate a few to vent those instincts.

Kireina's wives pursued their own passions and projects, free at last from war and chaos. Charlotte collaborated with the Space Humans—who had abandoned any dream of conquering Genesis—and developed new technologies alongside them and Elektra.

Astraea and Andromeda, together with their children, continued overseeing the Pillar of Celestial Enlightenment while joining Kireina on outings nearly every week. The two were always affectionate and lovey-dovey with her. Origin and Asteria had grown into brilliant students at the God Academy, renowned inventors of Cosmic Artifacts.

Nanako and Kaguya returned to their Kami families. With Amaterasu restored, their Heavenly Domain continued overseeing Japan on Earth. Kireina occasionally joined them for quiet, sweet dates. The girls, however, had become deeply invested in their new lives and families, and Kireina had no desire to pull them away. Amaterasu grew into a kinder goddess, Susanoo learned responsibility and recently shared a passionate night with Kireina—losing his virginity to her—and Tsukuyomi enjoyed time with his parallel self, though he still found it slightly strange that his counterpart was romantically involved with Amaterasu, given they were not siblings.

Oga turned out to be one of the Oni from Sadako's tribe; she had lost her memories and become a wandering warrioress in Japan's Corrupted Domains. Kireina found her hiding in one, talked with her, and helping restore her memories. Oga still led her own Oni tribe, who joined Sadako and all the Oni Kireina had revived. The group relocated to the restored Yomi, where Izanami now ruled alongside her husband Izanagi—whom Kireina had revived and compelled to stay with her, much to his displeasure.

Altani craved adventure and roamed countless worlds and universes with her son Emerald; Kireina sometimes joined them. Over time Altani brought her entire tribe along, and they gradually became known as the first Multiversal Nomadic Tribe. Altani and Emerald earned fame as explorers of uncharted realms, discovering new beasts to hunt and breathtaking landscapes.

Sofarpia and Sofelaia remained with the European Spirits and Gods on Earth, though Kireina visited weekly. From their love, the two Centaur Spirit Goddesses gave birth to two adorable spirit children—Guinevere and Adrain—who grew into celebrated young knights at the God Academy, always galloping toward adventure and challenge while their mothers watched protectively.

Nixephine and Nefertiti continued ruling Egypt's Heavenly Domain. Nixephine reunited with Nesiphae and Scarlet—presenting them as new Goddesses of Egypt—and they integrated swiftly into their roles, embracing fresh lives and possibilities. Amiphossia visited Nesiphae (now revered as Apophis) from time to time, bringing gifts along with Evan and their son Apollon; Kireina always cherished those gatherings with her wives, children, and the many new Egyptian Gods she befriended—including the revived, gentler Ra. Nefertiti and Kireina eventually had a son destined to inherit the Duat one day: the adorable, fluffy-eared boy they named Nimvuur.

Zehe deepened her study of magic at the Great Magician Cosmic Tower, where multiversal mages gathered. She rose to become a renowned master and eventually director of the tower. Her son Ryo and Kireina visited regularly. Ryo married his girlfriend and had a daughter—an adorable six-armed oni girl with long green hair. Buddha blessed her; she became a bright student at the God Academy named Ibuki and loved playing with Apollon.

Hydros and her family returned to their island paradise; Kireina and many relatives—especially the children—visited for vacations and to enjoy the stunning views. Kireina's daughter with Hydros learned to love her mother and forgave her early absence; their bond grew stronger. The child matured into a powerful god of fishermen and later surprised everyone at the God Academy with his extraordinary fishing prowess.

Gaby, Aarae, Ervin, Valentia, and Asure traveled the multiverse's seas with the Dragon King of the East Sea, discovering new places. Valentia married Asure and bore a powerful half-shark, half-earth-lord son named Valesur—mischievous and destructive. Aarae and Ervin's daughter, Mermei, was an adorable baby girl who clung tightly to Aarae's arms and cried whenever they parted. Kireina often joined their ocean explorations, marveling at beautiful new depths while watching her grandchildren grow.

Lilith and her son Fafnir adventured frequently with Altani and Emerald, hunting and exploring. Sometimes they visited Charlotte and Elektra; other times they hunted massive Empyrean Beasts in the Summit of Existence. Occasionally they spent time with Kireina and the rest of Lilith's humble farming family in the Dark Moon Kingdom.

Brontes and Vudia joined the Cyclops Tribe in Earth's Greek Heavenly Domains, forming a large family. Kireina visited often, but it was clear they had found their true home. Vudia became a legendary Divine Blacksmith across the multiverse, crafting artifacts for Cosmic Gods and even Empyrean Thrones. As an adult she fell deeply in love with a young Greek god and became an overbearing girlfriend. They had a son—a brilliant cyclops hero named Fermeiantes—famous at the God Academy for his playful nature and immense strength. Brontes adored training him, and Kireina always watched over them.

Kireina's maids, Ismena and Acelina, learned the full truth of everything and recovered their pasts, yet chose to remain on Earth serving her. Though Kireina resided in the Empyrean Throne, she spent much of her time on Earth overseeing existence there—moving castles and blending realms freely. Earth had grown vastly larger, and supernatural phenomena had become widespread (a story for another time).

Kireina and her beloved maids eventually formalized their relationship with Lord Chaos's approval and held a formal marriage in Europe, where Kireina met their family of knights. Ismena and Acelina later gave birth to two wonderful children—Veloria and Arthur—both training to become promising knights.

Rimuru and Ailine stayed by Kireina's side constantly. Rimuru had become the wife who never left her, always helping and sharing every moment. She was widely recognized as Kireina's "main wife," a title no one contested—she had earned it. Ailine was later blessed with a little sister named Celicia, a Chaos Slime of immense primordial power wielding dark, poisonous, abyssal, and chaotic forces. An Empyrean Throne once prophesied she would bring the End of Existence, but Kireina shattered that fate, granting her daughter freedom. Celicia was a sweet, clumsy, dense girl who loved playing with her sister and attending the God Academy; despite her personality she was acknowledged as the academy's strongest due to her vast powers and abilities. She also adored chocolate.

Hodhyl lived among the Cosmic Dragons and Wyverns, traveling with her siblings. She bore Kireina a powerful Chaos Wyvern son named Sirius, who inherited a fiery attitude. He often brawled with Celicia in friendly rivalry; she always came out on top, forcing him to buy her chocolate bars.

Kireina's Vampire wives chose to remain on Earth with their children. They integrated fully into the Darkwood Fae and lived happily together. Kireina visited nearly every month, treasuring time with her grandparents—who, even at her current power, still taught her new things. Alucard and Jeanne grew into feared and respected figures among the Darkwood Fae and Vampire families, ruling the Blood Dimension alongside Scarlet and Noah's family. Yet as adults they still turned to their mothers Agatheina and Alice for everything—and Kireina spoiled them relentlessly. Noah and his family balanced life between Abyss and Earth, never forgetting their Earth family.

Mao and Kireina married as well. Mao joined Earth, becoming a powerful Spirit Goddess of South America; she suddenly gained an Aztec god family and ruled happily over heavenly domains there. Kireina visited regularly. Mao later gave birth to an adorable black lion-faced boy named Crepusculatz—prophesied by the local gods to one day devour the sun. They all looked forward to it—especially Kireina.

Kireina's Spirit wives—Nereid, Kjata, Ocypete, and Smilkas—became apprentices to the Mother of All Spirits, who eventually adopted them as daughters, transforming them into Primordial Spirit Princesses. Each governed her own elemental Reality, creating life and managing universes with endless joy and possibility. Kireina visited often; all four eventually became pregnant and bore dozens of spirit children who grew into great spirit gods. The girls retained their unique personalities and always traveled together—sometimes overwhelming Kireina, but she endured because she loved them deeply.

Kireina's Harpy wife Nephiana retired after raising so many children and became Kireina's second "main wife," always staying close alongside Rimuru. Her lax, easygoing nature made her happy to go anywhere with Kireina. Their children spread across multiverses and Realities, becoming renowned Empyrean Thrones who fueled boundless growth in the Existence Expanse. Kireina pampered Nephiana constantly, forever grateful for her endurance as a mother to so many. Nephiana's father occasionally visited, and they enjoyed family dinners and gatherings with all the chicks.

Mady and her children governed a vast portion of Kireina's Cosmic Realm Oceans, living peacefully. Her three children eventually grew up, ventured into the multiverse—sometimes joining Gaby's family, other times returning home. Their unique natures led them to become Outer Gods: the Three Siblings of the Abyssal Depths, whose terrifying psychic powers spawned countless cults.

Sakura laid an enormous clutch—over thirty children—leaving Kireina stunned. Araña from Earth joined the Arachne Maids on Earth for a time, and they formed one large spider family. Whenever Kireina approached, dozens of little Arachne babies swarmed her… she was still deciding on all their names.

Everyone else had forged their own paths. The Wyvern Lord and his children explored the cosmos with the Cosmic Dragons. The Monkeys reunited with their king, thriving in the Mountains of the Grand Forest. Redgaria returned to America, aiding its recovery from the Spirit Invasion alongside his sister. Lazuli and Blaze lived with Skadi and Kireina, raising their two adopted Esper children—who adjusted happily to their new lives. Zagreus married Sindarin and had three children, making Hades the happiest grandfather alive; he had reunited with Persephone. Zagreus and his friends lived as one big family, occasionally visiting Genesis's Sun and Moon.

Obhedhrur governed the Chaos Plane while conquering the cosmos beyond, always eager for battle. He shared one passionate night with Kireina and fathered a beloved son—Obhedhrur Junior—a near-perfect image of his father except for butterfly wings and long purple hair. Kireina visited regularly, though the boy preferred staying with his dad, leaving her a touch wistful. Children could be that way.

Hel, Jormungandr, Fenrir, Yiksukesh, and the rehabilitated Hero of Gluttony relocated to Earth for fresh starts, having little left in Genesis. The Hero slowly learned to smile again, reliving his childhood with family and friends while Hel and the others watched over him. Loki lingered nearby, often disguised.

Freyja, Freyr, and Gerda lived together in their combined Realm in Genesis, finally returning to the lives they cherished. They regrew a new Yggdrasil and rebuilt their Fairy Kingdoms. Freyr and Gerda had many children—the giantess showed her husband no mercy—and Freyja delighted in watching the family expand.

Poseidon visited Gaby and the others often. The Spirits who aided him, Surtr, and more returned to the Spirit Plane to rule it now that the former queen was gone. Truhan and Surtr maintained their rivalry for years, yet Truhan always prioritized his children and Celica—who was expecting another child soon.

Luminous continued his harem life, fathering dozens of children with the Dragon Maids. He occasionally visited Elfina and her friends—who had recovered their memories but chose to stay mostly on Earth, visiting Grand Terra on weekends.

In Abyss, Noah resumed rulership with his family and friends. He eventually married Clementina after realizing his love for her; Iris was fiercely jealous but accepted it rather than risk another outburst. Clementina's icy heart gradually melted; she bore twins with Noah—Frost and Nifl. The Moon Goddess and Blood God revived, rejoined Noah in ruling Abyss, and learned to love and forgive one another. The Vampire Hero Allan, with his daughter and tribe, united all Vampires under one banner, ending pointless wars and teaching humility.

The Original Frank, Supreme of Time, reunited with his family and wandered the cosmos, occasionally visiting Kireina and his other self. The young Frank continued his ordinary Earth life; the two billion years of training existed outside normal time—barely a year had passed since the disasters. He lived with his parents and sister, visiting many clans and growing stronger in this new world. He began dating Harumi; after a year they entered an official relationship. Harumi was an intensely affectionate girlfriend—always hugging and kissing—sometimes overwhelming Frank. Erika kept training. Kireina revived Ulric, and the werewolf family rejoiced. They befriended Wagyu and the Genesis Wolves, becoming an even larger family. Beowulf occasionally sparred with Wagyu, growing close as rivalrous friends. Matsuo honored his reformed clan and strove to live each day fully.

Doctor Victor Frankenstein finally held his dreamed family reunion—his son and daughter spending time with him. Wasp returned home to honor his ancestors, pouring wine on their graves and sharing how he helped save the universe. Medea returned to the Greek Heavenly Domain; with Kireina's help, her family eventually welcomed her back. Nagumo was freed from Dream Entity possession long ago; after rehabilitation he rejoined Takamura and Sakamoto as Hunters—a new Earth profession handling monsters and evil spirits. The three lived like brothers.

Mammon lived among Earth's Vampires with his adoptive mother Clementine and sister Harumi, occasionally visiting Hell to meet Lucifer and the new rookie Archdemons. Kireina often dropped in during dinners, snatched him away, and kept him for the night. Through an Empyrean Throne's miracle seed, Mammon became pregnant and bore a powerful Nephalem boy named Samael—who loved roaming between Heaven and Earth.

The One formally apologized to his children and the archdemons—including Lucifer and Mammon. While the archdemons still resented him, the revived archangels rejoined him joyfully. Samael became infamous in Heaven and Hell as the boy who crossed realms freely and bragged about it—sparking envy among demons and angels alike. He was mischievous and playful like his father. Lucifer and the System Master began a relationship, left Hell, and traveled the multiverse together. They eventually started a family; their System Demon children spread chaos, weaving villainous systems and countless new stories across worlds.

The Genesis-loyal Supremes returned with her to her world; others wandered the cosmos, occasionally visiting home. Flora grew deeply attached to Mother Earth and remained with her, managing the largest planet in all Existence—a place many Empyrean Thrones visited for its uniqueness.

Genesis gradually improved her speech and behavior. Her siblings and parents scolded her repeatedly until she learned her lesson. She held regular family reunions. Kireina often teased her, sparking playful fights that lightened the mood and drew laughter. Once enemies, they had become rivalrous sisters—an ironic but fitting bond.

Wall, in her turtle form, wandered Earth until she reunited with her siblings—the White Tiger, Azure Dragon, and Vermillion Bird. The Four Auspicious Beasts now adventured together.

After so many years, Kireina concluded another joyful reunion with friends and family, smiling and laughing among them all.

As the celebration continued, she opened a path beyond reality's boundaries and stepped into an endless expanse—countless root-like rivers of energy flowing eternally through all Realities. She had reached The Root.

She walked slowly toward the center and found a solitary witch seated where every path converged. The witch wove a pen, writing countless letters across emerging realities and existences.

"Hello, Witch of the Root. Long time no see."

"Ah, Kireina! I knew you were coming. I was writing to you right here."

"Eh?"

Kireina approached the one writing this and saw what she was doing.

Surprise filled her eyes as she gazed in awe.

Their first meeting had been rushed, but now they could finally speak freely.

"You… I see. So you truly write Reality?" she asked.

"I do. It's my job," the witch replied with a gentle smile. "Your journey has officially ended. How do you feel?"

"I… well, I'm glad it all turned out well in the end," Kireina sighed in relief. "It was a little rushed, but… it was good."

"I see…" The witch smiled warmly. "I'm glad. I have a new idea. I'm writing several new things—would you like to help? A little collaboration before your story closes?"

"Huh?" Kireina stepped closer, watching the countless realities the witch wove. "What is this? A tower? And a pink-haired boy?"

"It's called Primordial Dream Sovereign! Actually a sequel to another Reality I wrote—something called Ghost Reincarnation or similar. She's his child," the witch explained. "There's a tower with one hundred worlds! I wanted to borrow some ideas from your Reality—may I?"

"Of course," Kireina smiled. "What do you have in mind?"

The witch moved her hands, and an image of Earth appeared—the parallel Earth Kireina cherished so deeply, where she still lived because of her attachment.

"I want to create a new one exactly like this… but without any of you fusing with your alternate selves," the witch said. "What do you think?"

"Ah…" Kireina gasped softly. "I always wanted to see that."

"Right? We'll add it to the tower to spice things up~!" The witch nodded, sending the world into place. "It will have you and everyone else—but as the people of that world. Won't it be fascinating to watch? This way your legacy never truly ends. It continues forever. And don't worry—I'll keep finding ways to weave more things together. Oh, right—I'll also incorporate another version into a different story. One about a mother reconnecting with her own mother through a VR game—an unexplored genre I've wanted to try. That Earth is a parallel to Frank's as well. Once she and her daughter visit Japan, it'll become clearer. I might even blend more elements into other novels—who knows? This way you'll never be forgotten."

"Well, thank you, hahaha," Kireina laughed warmly. "You really are just a novelist, aren't you? Who are you even writing for?"

"Maybe you can't see them, but they're all reading this right now," the witch said with a soft smile. "I love writing, Kireina. I love weaving new realities, new stories full of stakes, drama, action, romance—and yes, tragedy too. You were my first book. You helped me escape a very dark place when I thought life was meaningless and I was worthless."

"...!" Kireina's breath caught as the witch gently took her hand.

"You're my reason to live, Kireina," the witch said. "Thanks to your story, I've created so many others and can keep writing more. So thank you—from the bottom of my heart."

"I… don't know what to say…" Kireina murmured shyly. "But I want to thank you instead—for bringing me to life. It was a wonderful adventure, Witch."

"It sure was," the witch nodded. "Now come on, sit down. Let's eat popcorn and watch how this new one unfolds!"

"Haha, sure. I suppose I can stay a while before returning to the party." Kireina sat beside her, watching as new realities wove together and came alive—new adventures, new romances, new stories, new conflicts, new tragedies, and above all, new beginnings.

THE END.

Author's Note:

Thank you so much for reading this far, everyone. Epic of Caterpillar has officially ended. What an incredible adventure it was, wasn't it?

Epic of Caterpillar was my very first novel. I began writing it six years ago, back when I was in a difficult place in my life. Man, time really flies. I've grown so much since then. Back then I was such an innocent summer child; now I'm approaching my thirties, and somehow I still don't feel old at all.

As many of you know, I've written dozens of novels since then. Many are complete, while others are ongoing because I still have so many stories left to tell. Kireina holds a very special place in my heart. Even though I wrote her as deeply flawed during my edgiest phase, she evolved alongside me over time. She slowly became kinder, relearned how to love, and came to appreciate the humanity she once despised as a weakness.

By the end, Kireina finally accepted herself—loving who she was and what she had become instead of hating herself and regretting the terrible things she had done. She chose to help others as much as possible and rejected the dark urges and powers she once embraced. That's why she stopped using Gluttony entirely and grew into an enlightened, almost Buddha-like figure after experiencing every facet life had to offer: from animal to monster, demon, and ultimately human.

I'm truly sorry to the readers who didn't get to see more of their favorite characters. At the time I was writing the ending, I just needed to close this chapter of my life so I could step forward into uncertain waters. Right now I'm working on several new novels, and I hope you'll give them a chance and continue supporting me.

Epic of Caterpillar was my first published and contracted web novel—my heart and passion poured onto the page. It's full of flaws, but I believe those very imperfections give it its unique charm, don't you think?

Currently, I'm publishing "Spiral of Madness: Ascension of the Villainous Dragon Prince", a story I've poured my blood, sweat, and tears into. It's much darker and more serious in tone, but it still carries my signature touch. I hope you'll read it and enjoy it.

All my other novels are perfect for a weekend binge too! But if I had to recommend a few favorites:

- Brand New Life Online: Rise of the Goddess of Harvest (Ongoing)

- Reincarnated with a Glitched System: Why Is My MP Never Running Out? (Ongoing)

- Reborn as a Ghost: Time to Build My Undead Army! (Ongoing, but will soon end)

- Epic of Ice Dragon: Reincarnated as an Ice Dragon with a System (Completed)

And my free novel: "The Protagonist's Sister Is Actually the Strongest"—which you can later support on Patreon for over 200 chapters ahead of the public release.

As a small side note, characters from the Epic of Caterpillar universe have started appearing in "Brand New Life Online: Rise of the Goddess of Harvest". You can think of them as alternate-universe (AU) versions of the originals.

Also I have commissioned a Final Cover featuring all the main characters together with Kireina, but this'll take a while to be completed by the artist (they do a good job but they can be really slow). You can check this paragraph to see the sketch at least!

Anyway, self-promotion aside—thank you. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for everything you've helped me build. I hope we'll meet again in another story.

Goodbye for now and see you soon in one of my other novels!
