Chapter 1752: Chapter 1690: Heading to Quanzhou

The Mei Family’s main base was in Quanzhou, on the southeastern coast of Fujian. After leaving Changan and reaching the harbor, Wufu and her party switched to a tower ship and sailed along the coast toward Quanzhou.

In just a year’s time, she was once again boarding a seagoing ship at this very season, but this time was nothing like when she’d left Huayang; instead of feeling light, she was weighted down.

Standing on the deck, Wufu gazed at the boundless sea, her mood oddly subtle and complicated.

"What are you standing here for, don’t you mind the wind? If you’re missing that brat, you can miss him in the cabin." Hua Wushuang walked to her side and scolded, "Don’t go thinking you’re young so you can abuse your body. You’re still weak!"

"No one’s ever told you you nag too much?" Wufu shot him a sidelong glance.

Hua Wushuang bristled.

Wufu let her gaze fall on the surface of the sea and said, "Is it really fine to just head back to the Mei Family’s main base like this? How are you going to introduce me and Changsheng?"

"You and he are my nephews, how else would I introduce you?" Hua Wushuang said with his hands clasped behind his back. "If I can’t even call the shots in the Mei Family, then what’s the point of me being Eagle Master? I might as well yield the seat early!"

"This Eagle Master title carries a lot too. Aren’t you tired? Back then, even your mother..." Under his gaze, Wufu corrected herself. "Back then, Grandmother, for the sake of the Eagle Master, was willing to sacrifice even my mother. You can imagine this seat is anything but easy."

Hua Wushuang didn’t know what he had suddenly thought of; the hands behind his back clenched. "Yeah, this seat is not easy to sit in."

Wufu watched the change in his expression; it was just like when she’d first met him, carrying a persistent melancholy, as if the whole person were shrouded in sorrow.

"No matter how hard it is to sit in, I still have to sit. This is our ancestors’ legacy, and the mission our Eagle Hall bears." Hua Wushuang said.

"What if you discover that the Eagle Hall now has gone completely against the original purpose your ancestors founded it for?" Wufu looked at him. "By giving us the Eagle Mark, you’re leaning toward us, or toward Beiyan. Whether it’s out of your own private motives or for the bigger picture, I can tell you right now: if Eagle Hall really intends to prop up a puppet emperor, that is absolutely impossible."

"Oh?" Hua Wushuang narrowed his eyes at her. "And if they do, what will you do?"

A chill radiated off Wufu’s whole body. "Destroy it."

Hua Wushuang laughed.

"Naive?" Wufu slanted a look at him.

Hua Wushuang said, "I admire your courage. Do you have any idea what sort of existence Eagle Hall is? In two hundred years, the wealth and talent it’s accumulated are beyond your imagination!"

"I really don’t know, but I do know an eight-character motto." Wufu said.

"What?"

"Divide and dissolve, break them one by one." Wufu said mildly. "People all have weaknesses. I sure as hell don’t believe in any heroism, don’t believe everyone is so loyal they’ll keep guarding some damn legacy and keep fulfilling some damn mission."

Hua Wushuang frowned.

"So you’d better make sure Eagle Hall truly only wants to see peace under heaven, and don’t you dare think about pushing Ah Jiu up there as some puppet. Unless he’s willing himself, I don’t care what kind of uncle you are—I’ll take you out first." Wufu gave him a sidelong glance, then turned and went back into the cabin.

Hua Wushuang shook his head slightly. The little one really was bristling with thorns.

He suddenly felt a bit envious of Ah Jiu, to have such a person who’s sincere to the core, thinking only of him.

Once, he too had someone like that. It was a pity...

Hua Wushuang let out a sigh, clasped his hands behind his back, and stared out at the sea for a long time without moving.
