Chapter 4928 Unreachable Distance
Chapter 4928 Unreachable Distance
After listening to Viridia, Davis's gaze flickered as he recalled the Heavenly Restriction Pact.
[You want my life? Take it. I will give you my everything. I shall lose my sight until he returns to my side. I shall lose my taste until I feel his tongue. I shall lose my smell until I inhale his scent. I shall lose my hearing until I hear his voice. I shall lose all sensation until I feel his touch. I shall lose my cultivation until I dual-cultivate with him. I shall lose my memories until he holds me tightly. My senses, my emotions, my life. Take them all if you can. I will exist as a wisp even if my soul and body were to be vanquished, everlasting within his soul. You can never end him. Therefore, you will never separate me from him.]
In other words, his Natalya had become blind, couldn't taste, became deaf, couldn't feel, had her cultivation suppressed to the utmost limit, and possessed no memories. He had heard of this from Evelynn but had finally confirmed it.
After nodding, Davis turned to look at Iesha.
"Iesha, I'll have to trouble you to repeat my words to her."
"It's not a problem. Please talk to her more and cure her, please~"
Iesha said worriedly. Her white eyes turned moist as she cast a glance at Natalya, greatly regretting that she wasn't there for her when it all went down.
"Hmm. Leave it to me."
He turned to look at Natalya, his expression turning forlorn, "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when the accident happened."
Natalya listened to Iesha repeating his words before she shook her head, her black eyes appearing vacant.
"Please don't worry. I feel nothing for you to be concerned about. Even this art of comforting other people was something I recently learned. I think I have our child holding one of my hands, but I can't figure out what exactly he wants or what is needed for him to grow. Can you please look after him for me?"
"…"
Davis's gaze shook as he heard Viridia repeat Natalya's words. His empty hand moved, wanting to grab Natalya, but froze mid-air. He clenched his fist and then reached out to Eden, ruffling his golden hair.
"Of course, it goes without saying. Eden's our child."
Eden stared at Davis with an unamused look, his eyes squinted, but he saw the strange distance his father maintained with his mother that shouldn't be possible. As a child, he couldn't understand, but as a cultivator who had witnessed the Heavenly Restriction Pact in writing and got his memories sealed only to be released recently, he knew his father wasn't wrong or undeserving as he had initially claimed.
He carefully looked at the two of them, feeling something strange was happening.
"Many thanks, dear husband. Although I am clueless and useless, please don't abandon me. One day, I think I could recover and prove myself useful to you." Natalya said, her voice devoid of emotion as if she were a doll.
"…" Davis's lips twitched, wanting to say that they don't have that kind of beneficial relationship, but his voice was stuck in his throat.
Swallowing hard ever so lightly, he continued to exchange words with her, although it ended up as mere pleasantries.
"Alright, Iesha, watch over Natalya. I'll go find some ancient records for a solution."
"…"
Iesha was taken aback before she nodded, "Leave it to me."
She was surprised that Davis didn't try anything on Natalya, like using his life or reincarnation energy, but not even holding Natalya's hand to comfort her? She felt it was strange but did not make a comment since Davis depended on her to protect and communicate with Natalya.
"Father… father…!"
Davis suddenly stopped, only then realizing that he still held Viridia's hand.
He looked around and saw that he was nearly at the entrance to the Imperial Garden, almost exiting.
Taking a deep breath, he smiled at Viridia, "Sorry, I was deep in thought about how to cure Natalya."
Viridia's gaze quivered, "Father, could it be that you can't… see Mother Natalya?"
Davis maintained a smile, but his hand couldn't stop trembling.
See? He couldn't even feel her existence!
However, he shook his head, "No, I see her just fine and hear her loud and clear. It was just that my soul was ringing in pain from witnessing your mother in that state that I couldn't hear her clearly. Don't worry. I'll cure her no matter what."
He chuckled before letting Viridia's hand go. He quickly left the area.
"…"
Viridia watched him leave as she brought her hand back to her bosom. When she looked at her hand, she saw it was bruised because he had been holding it so tightly, unaware.
"Father…" She whispered, her eyes moistening as she realized some implications. More than anything, she discovered that her father had no luxury to even think properly since there wasn't a day that he hadn't healed her after injuring her in a practice battle session, but now, he didn't even realize that he had broken her hand.
Watching him leave, Evelynn also shed tears silently, realizing that curing Natalya was nearly impossible since Davis left without even saying a word to her.
Mingzhi and the others appeared by her side to comfort her, their voices and gazes silent.
Davis quickly left the Imperial Garden.
His smiling expression slowly faded, replaced with a wrathful solemness.
'Seems like… my devotion… isn't as crazy as Natalya's… It's not enough…'
Davis shuddered. He knew for a fact it wouldn't be easy, but the heavens had completely hidden Natalya from him, putting her in some kind of state of concealment.
Otherwise, the others wouldn't be able to talk to her or see her.
More than anything, he realized that he should never for a moment acknowledge that he couldn't see or hear Natalya, or else- his Natalya would be gone forever, possibly only existing within his soul, but even that could be a luxury he couldn't have if the worst comes to pass.
He also guessed that if Evelynn and the others saw him unable to touch Natalya or hold her, then that would also become concrete evidence, an acknowledgment that the heavens could use to reply to Natalya, that her beloved couldn't find her and she needs to give her life as she had declared.
But how did he know the heavens were watching, or at least had a firm thumb on the situation, on this challenge Natalya had issued to the heavens without knowing she had created a Heavenly Restriction Pact?
Because Fallen Heaven had concealed itself in the Imperial Garden, refusing to respond.
