Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4596: A Longing Ailment?

Chapter 4596: A Longing Ailment?

“Darling~”

Shirley planted her face against Davis’s chest, burying herself in his embrace as she held him with a plethora of emotions rocking her heart. She broke-down upon seeing him, taking deep breaths amidst her sobs.

“Where were you? I missed you so much~”

She wept, crying like a child as she didn’t let him go and held him tightly.

Davis was momentarily taken aback before he realized that she was in a profound state of sadness. His Heart Intent could tell her emotions of sadness and longing were greater than the feeling of joy.

‘This is… lovesickness…’

He carefully caressed her head and coddled her, “I’m sorry I wasn’t here for you. No amount of excuses can describe or justify the emotions you felt while being away from me. I’m sorry, my love. I will be by your side. I’ll hug you to sleep. Don’t cry…”

He caressed her back, trying to stop her from crying.

He shot a look at Isabella, who appeared before them to also console her. Their eyes met, and she also looked quite red in her eyes as she caressed Shirley’s shoulder.

“Little sister, don’t worry. He’s back, and all will be fine…” She knew the loneliness they experienced would be heavier than the mountains.

Because she had stayed alone in the Wrathful Aeons Shard Region, she could relate to Shirley’s emotions, but she also knew, unlike her, Shirley was someone who would paint her emotions on her face and couldn’t bear to leave Davis.

Davis also precisely knew this. Because Shirley had longed for him, she had gone to many lengths to garner his attention and even sacrificed her primal yin when he was ‘dying’. How could she endure being away from her loved one for a decade when she was a young woman?

It was a test of her mental fortitude. She could win against anything except love. Perhaps it was the worsening effect of the phoenix bloodline.

Regardless, Davis also hugged her firmly, his heartstrings also wildly tugged by her weeping sounds. She sounded so innocent, like a sincere child, breaking his heart.

In the end, she actually fainted in his arms.

Davis had no choice but to assume that she hadn’t slept for the past few weeks in this dense Shard Region. Although the rate of exhaustion wasn’t as bad as the Shard Continent, the High-Level Shard Regions were quite heavy on the body and soul, too.

He lifted her up using both his arms and summoned a flying palace from his spatial ring, heading inside. In his arms, she slept soundly and peacefully with a light smile on her face, feeling safe and coddled.

Davis imagined she wanted to be treated like a princess afterwards.

Before heading inside, he surveyed the surroundings and could see no sign of Niera, Bylai, Mira, Freya, Dalila, or Aila.

Did this mean that they were in the last High-Level Shard Region that they needed to travel?

However, he did see a fox fey fairy and two magical beast fairies here.

Nonetheless-

“I still have not yet recovered. I’ll use this chance to sleep by her side and comfort her. Until then, feel free to roam around with Myria at the forefront or stay and defend.”

“Understood.” Isabella and Tia echoed.

Myria nodded lightly, and Davis walked inside.

Although he saw it as a flying palace, it was just a newly constructed flying house that was two stories high and was constructed using the High-Level Empyrean Grade ores collected in the Shard Regions. It was a makeshift building, made in the style of western architecture without strong support or a firm structure, but it could certainly defend against most attacks from the supreme geniuses.

He dared not take it out in the Shard Continent since it would just end up attracting danger.

Davis lay Shirley to sleep on the fluffy and comfortable double king-sized bed before he also took his position by her side. Five hours of sleep definitely wasn’t enough for him to recover from the exhaustion of actively controlling the Eternal Eclipse Bird for more than half a day.

His head still hurt to a minor level, making it an unneeded annoyance.

Soon, he slept while embracing Shirley, drifting off into sleep.

When he woke up, he realized it had been around seven hours since he slept. However, there was a much more interesting scene in front of him as Shirley had a sweet smile on her face. She took a few strands of his blonde hair and kept twirling like she adored him.

“For how many hours were you staring at my face?” Davis blinked.

“I didn’t want to disturb you~” Shirley, who had woken up in five hours, said with a soft voice.

She giggled, appearing cheeky. Then, her crimson-blue eyes shimmered with a strange look before she leaned closer and pressed his lips with hers.

Her kiss was soft yet probing as though she had forgotten how to kiss, making Davis swoon as he wrapped his arm over her head and pulled her closer. Their lips turned wet, and their tongues intertwined.

Their bodies pressed against each other, and a vague heat full of joy enveloped them.

“Shirley…” Davis whispered as he passionately kissed her crimson lips.

The taste of her lips had changed, but it still had the same sense of familiarity. It filled his heart and made his worried heart calm.

Their heat didn’t evolve or degenerate into a carnal exchange.

They merely kissed, kissed, and kissed for fifteen minutes straight as though they had missed each other for a century. It wasn’t until they had run out of breath that they somewhat stopped, and even then, the passion in their eyes only grew.

“You have grown beautiful yet again, my love.” Davis complimented her.

His Shirley looked like someone who carried half-spirit blood.

Shirley bit her bottom lip, her crimson-blue eyes shimmering, “You have also grown strong. I couldn’t overpower you even after I’ve become stronger…”

“That’s a given. You totally forgot about Eterna, didn’t you?”

“…” Shirley’s expression froze. Did her daughter also come here? Was she outside!?

“Ah!~” She suddenly sat up, panic visible in her eyes.

“Eterna isn’t here, so don’t worry.” Davis chuckled, causing Shirley to become dumbfounded.

She then looked at him with moist eyes, clenching her fists and hitting him while moaning that it was unfair, causing Davis to laugh again.

“I didn’t forget! I was just charmed by you, temporarily putting everything aside.”

“I know, I know.” Davis agreed hurriedly, “Eterna is in the Wrathful Aeons Shard Region with Evelynn and the others…”

He explained their journey, giving a brief account. Shirley listened, sometimes enraged, sometimes awed, sometimes shocked, and eventually heaved a sigh of relief, “I didn’t expect you to come through the Shard Continent. Was it dangerous?”

“‘Dangerous’ doesn’t even describe it. If we didn’t have a map, we would be screwed. There’s a Primarch-level existence almost every few hundred thousand kilometers. It’s incredibly dangerous.”

Shirley shivered. She wanted to head there for-

Suddenly, she remembered, causing her to hold Davis’s hands, “Did you see Flamerose and Frostrose? I successfully stole some records from the Skytune Family of the Seven-Coloured Phoenix Upper Realm and read about the unique variants of the Fire Phoenix and the Ice Phoenix. I realized one thing after another and then moved accordingly to collect relevant resources to make Flamerose and Frostrose evolve.”

She grew excited, “I finally did it! Did you see!?”

“Yes, I did…” Davis widened his eyes and nodded, “What are they now called? They’re even more dazzling and powerful. Considering their blood still manages to co-exist inside you even after they evolved into different kinds of phoenixes, their powers should be compatible to make a different kind of icefire, no? What do you call their species name?”

He was also equally excited, but his expression quickly turned into a frown. He was about to ask where Niera and the others were before Shirley echoed.

“I have made Flamerose and Frostrose cross a unique evolution instead of making them a Seven-Colored Phoenix. From a Fire Phoenix, Flamerose became a Solar Emberwing Phoenix, a phoenix that is capable of producing gold-scarlet flames filled with purifying yang-type flames that extinguish evil. As for Frostrose, she became a Lunar Frostwing Phoenix from an Ice Phoenix! Her powers are also similar but much more deadly and colder, as they bring in the cold from the lunar yin. Their prowess is actually enhanced during the daytime or nighttime, respectively, and during dawn or dusk, their combined icefire is ridiculously powerful, reaching fifteen levels- no, sixteen levels higher!”

“They truly stand at the peak of the magical beast world with their uniqueness of being able to create sunmoon icefire energy!”

“Sunmoon icefire energy…?”

Davis was flabbergasted at the strange naming Shirley gave their energy. Regardless, since it was powerful, Davis was truly taken aback.

Icefire Laws was a truly destructive Supreme Law, so it wasn’t strange that its new form would be any less destructive.

“Shall we go see them? I want to introduce you to them again!”

Davis could feel Shirley’s enthusiasm, but he was much more worried about her sisters, “Where are the others? Are only the three of you here?”

“No. Niera and Freya were also with us, but the two of them have gone to another area here in this Shard Region. You’d be surprised when you see both of them. I can’t wait to show you the results of our adventure!”

Shirley trembled with excitement before she pounced over, the two of them crashing into the bed again.
